Z11 Sales and Rebates

Description

Built for CAD, school, and gaming. First time to build a PC and being on a students budget I had to make the best of sales, instant rebates, and price matching. Solidworks and Pro-E works fantastically quick on this build and can preform simulation test very well. For what the budget was it is great for gaming. Running Arma 3 on ultra at 30+ fps. Very well cooled and plan on upgrading the GPU to the 700 series sometime during the summer.

CPU - Got lucky and was able to snag one from a Fry's black Friday. Though I would love to have the 3770k or go with Haswell I think this will do just fine for the price.

MoBo- Newegg instant rebates.

Ram- Newegg sale

Harddrive- Microcenter sale

SSD- Refurb at newegg.

GPU- Was going to go with the R7 260x and price match Best Buy with the Newegg price but then that GTX 660 had a sale and rebate along with Assassins Creed: Black Flag and Splinter Cell for free.

Case- Microcenter sale

PSU- Microcenter sale and MIR

Optical- I got from a old computer

OS - I was able to get it free from DreamSpark through my Engineering School.

Monitor-Gifted, happy birthday to me.

Amazing build. How the #$*& did you get an 300$ processor for 110$? I would give this a +10 if I could.

Truth be told, I actually found it on Fry's website. It was an inventory glitch from their Black Friday sale. So I called Best Buy, since they have an online price match guarantee for some online retailers including Fry's, at 1:00am (the operator sounded exhausted) and price matched it.

Wow first of all at the prices you paid, amazing. Second nice cable management, and nice choice in parts.

And that is an interesting case.. never seen that before, kinda looks like it has jet intakes. Awesome.

Wow, that cable management is amazing. I have a Z11 too and my cable management is terrible.

Also, those were quite some deals.

Good job on it!

Took me awhile, had to spread out the cables as much as I could, and struggled to get the back side panel on. I love the case but I never want to take that panel off again...

How did you get Windows 8.1 for free?

AIien_Ant_Farm [Submitter] [1 Build] 1 point 8 months ago

Microsoft has a website called DreamSpark where schools can be a member of and students of that major or school can download OS, software, dev tools, all kinds of stuff. My roommate is a Computer Science major and was able to get me wins 8 for free through DreamSpark and I just updated it to 8.1.

What about the optical drive?

I was digging through some old computers at a family-friend's office and found it so they let me have it. It is not the same one on my list but it's the about same specs and manufacturer. Mines like the old style whiteish grey . Hence why it's not installed for the pictures.

Nice build for a great price.

Very nice. I use Pro-E daily for work and we have switched to the nvidia k2000 professional series cards. They work much better for point clouds, surfacing and assemblies. Good luck to you while in school.

How do you find cable management with that case?

After seeing this list, I'm definitely not going to settle for taking retail prices anymore. +1 for the wake up call

SSJGGogeta 1 point 6 months ago

is the psu modular, if so that would explain the cable work somewhat plus instead of getting a 700 series couldn't you just get another 660 and do sli
