Noob Build (1st ever build)

by DaveJRum

CPU Clock Rate

GPU Core Clock Rate

GPU Effective Memory Clock Rate

I use it for web browsing, light gaming (although now, I may try CoD or Crysis!) home paperwork, watching movies. I haven't even fired it up yet as I have no OS for it. Hopefully the OS will arrive on Monday, June 17th, 2013.

OS installed, computer up and running just fine. Win7 taking abit to get used to but, over all, it has performed as I expected it to.

Temps at Idle: CPU: 35 C GPU: 34 C MOBO: 30 C HDD: 34 C

Highest temp recorded via Speccy, CPU 52 C, GPU 43C, MOBO 46 C, HDD 50 C.

Case has 2 120mm fans. Going to add two more, one blowing on the GPU and another in the case top as exhaust. CPU has the OEM fan installed, going to upgrade that in the future.

The 500W Corsair PSU gets kind of noisy at times, you hear the blades whooshing the air, CPU is the same when running full out. Methinks the PSU is just big enough so it'll be replaced later this year also. Seriously considering a bigger heatsink and fan for the CPU too.

Trying to figure whether or not to CrossFire another 7770 or get a newer, bigger vid card. 7770 has 1 GB and runs at: Voltage 0.825 V GPU Clock 1000.0 MHz Temperature 33 °C Core Voltage 0.825 V Bios Core Clock 300.00 Bios Mem Clock 149.00 Driver version BIOS Version 113-xxx-xxx Memory Type GDDR5 Memory 1024 MB Bandwidth 72.0 GB/s This card is an older version of the 7770. It has just one cooling fan, all the pics I have seen of this card show 2. shrug That's why I am considering upgrading already.

Anyway, the system is performing just fine atm.

Why is this being downvoted? I see this as a great little budget machine!

EDIT: Well, at least it was being downvoted... :P

bgiunt4 14 points 21 months ago

one of the better budget builds i have seen.

Alar -14 points 19 months ago

I dont agree with much of this build but, this is the first build I've seen were it doesn't feel like someone named the budget after they were dome just to feel good or something good job. Mother board could be cheaper, the case and power supply is best to get those together, and personaly today, I would not build one without a ssd or 8cores. nice budgeting tho.

xFantoM 4 points 19 months ago

If he was going for just normal use and light gaming, 8 cores is pretty much useless. Which happens to be what he said he used the PC for.

Zequill 1 point 19 months ago

It's a great motherboard for the price anything cheaper starts to get unreliable build wise imo. Included power supplies are typically lower end parts and low wattage allowing for less upgrades such as a new cpu or gpu. On this budget an ssd is useless because 120gb is the best he could get at this price point and that would fill up way to fast. an 8320 would've cost him about 40 or 50 more than the phenom and 8 cores isn't really taken advantage of in gaming yet. Honestly gaming wise which is what he said this was for, this is probably the best you could do at this price point.

Awesome build. I love the 965

omni72 5 Builds 2 points 21 months ago

Nicely done, Dave! :) My first full build was in the 200R and I just can't say enough about that case - it's sooooo easy to work with. Assuming we'll get an update and initial impressions after the OS arrives :D

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Yep. Update coming next week

ck3 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

You should't have much problems with COD or Crysis on this. You can't max out the graphics settings on either but it will still look about as good as a console maybe a little bit better.

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build -4 points 21 months ago

According to all the recommends and reviews I have seen, this cute little set-up leaves Cyrsis crying in the dirt at max res and FPS.

ck3 1 Build -6 points 21 months ago

I mean i have the GPU and a better cpu so i would know

fsma92 2 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

How much did it cost you total without the OS and after rebates?

kornitsky101 1 point 21 months ago

It's funny, this is almost the exact same as my build, but I have a different case and different ram.

Goodeggray 1 point 21 months ago

Tighten the wiring and tie it in the back of the case wire wire ties and it'll look top notch. Good selection of parts for budget build and have good upgrade path with better cpus and gpus.

Ipwnyou33 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Love this build. Nice tower, good psu, video card can play some games on high or utra depending, AMD love ya for it.Big AMD fan. Overall good build for a 500$ budget. Just noting that that cpu I've seen people go up to 4 ghz.

coolman 1 point 21 months ago

Play TF2!!!

TheOriginalZTQ 1 point 19 months ago

hows this build doing? thinking of getting the same parts.

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 2 points 19 months ago

It's all good except the video card. Mine was refurbished. It sucks. Spend the extra cash and get a new one. Good combo's available with PSU and video cards.

Could this run BF4?

[comment deleted]
faceplant1324 -9 points 17 months ago

It can run BF4 at 1080p on high setting... upgrade the Graphic card a little and would beable to play on ultra

ck3 1 Build 3 points 17 months ago

maybe you mean run to be 15 fps

TRIBOB 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Hey, I have the same case and PSU!

1337h1pst3r 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

cpu and mobo working well? I'm thinking of the same. I've heard rumors that MSI boards aren't so good though...

tshombe123 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

I like the PSU. Did you have to buy any extra cables? I wanna get a semi moudular power supply also :/

trixter108 1 point 18 months ago

Lol, CoD is light gaming. Crysis, however, has been known to take an outragously high end build to run on ultra settings at 1080p with 60 fps. As far as the GPU goes, I suggest just selling the 7770 and upgrading to a better card. I don't really like SLI or Crossfireing cards because it adds more power and heat. You can get some good cards for good prices and Christmas is coming up and that mean lots of sales. Be careful not to bottleneck your system either, wouldn't want to put something like a 7950 in with that 965 because you won't get max performance out of the card like that. One more suggestion, an SSD is one of the best upgrades you can do to a computer IMO. You may not think that now, but when you get your SSD and see how fast things load, you'll know. Anyway, great build, one of the better budget builds I've seen.

utkugul 1 point 18 months ago

gg best budget build :P +1

Jwood013 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

Great cable management man! and great build :)

pubiCrust 1 Build 1 point 16 months ago

get a new card, not all applications are optimized for crossfirw

Gooberdad 3 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Well done. Crazy low price.

EcoMCG 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

Hows the Mobo?

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

Doing well. Never overheats, runs with my 7980 vid just fine.

Paulie_M 1 point 14 months ago

will this build run bf4 and the total war game series on high graphics at a decent fps?

What upgrades could i make to this set up to make it even better?

I have a budget of up to £700.

Thanks DaveJRum for this upload.

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

It's a bit light on the graphics side for that. I have gone to a AMD 7800 with 2g of on board RAM series card and love it

Pr3castDragon 1 point 10 months ago

How good is the motherboard? I am looking to buy the same one

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

I lost my password. Just saw this. I am totally happy with this MB.

CosMcG 1 point 8 months ago

Could you put an SSD into this rig?

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 1 point 8 months ago

SilentAssassin 1 point 6 months ago

can this run arma 2

Architor 1 Build 1 point 6 months ago

A lot of bang for the $ there! Nice.

AmplifiedLlama 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

Is the case quiet?

fsma92 2 Builds 0 points 21 months ago

how much did you pay total?

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 0 points 21 months ago

With shipping, a little under $610 w/OS. Windows is way too expensive :/

amen on that brother

mesin95 2 Builds 0 points 21 months ago

Nice budget build.

Sabotage 0 points 21 months ago

I love the corsair 200r, also I got the same psu for my brother!

Utagaii 0 points 21 months ago

What is the size of that extra case fan you've got? I'm thinking of using the same case, and I'd like to be sure I'm buying a compatibly sized fan.

Otherwise, awesome, cheap but effective build! Mine is like that too!

ck3 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

You can ALWAYS look at the specs on the cases website. They go into detail as expected.

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

120mm. Came with the case.

StewieMonSta 2 Builds 0 points 21 months ago

Nice build, but I would have got a i3.

ea4x 1 point 20 months ago

I would have gotten an FX 6300. Performance seems to be just as good as if not better than i3 3240, and is quite cheap(~$20 more than submitter's cpu)

StewieMonSta 2 Builds 1 point 20 months ago

Actually yeah that sound even better than the i3!

ea4x 0 points 20 months ago

How is the motherboard? any problems? I heard online that MSI 970 chipset boards till the G46 had no thermal protection on the VRM's.

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

That is correct. I added 4 120mm case fans and my mobo runs around 35C all the time now.

gxsaurav 1 Build 0 points 19 months ago

What is your motherboard temperature considering VRMs lack a heatsink? Does it gets too hot? Any stability issues?

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Temps run from 30C to 35C. No problems thus far. Added a TX3 CPU cooler and dropped my CPU temp to 45C constant under load.

Camboy05 0 points 13 months ago

When I have this mobo and an AMD FX-6300 in a list, it says it may need a BIOS uptdate. Is this true and if so is it easy? Thanks

Miridion -1 points 17 months ago

You didn't really need the 500w PSU, all you really need is the corsair 430w

Joseph.M 1 Build 1 point 3 months ago

Overhead is usually a good thing to have.

coryjamesking 1 Build -1 points 17 months ago

100th up-vote [:

tylerfig 1 Build -3 points 21 months ago

light gaming with a 7770? just buy a laptop? lol

DaveJRum submitter 1 Build 5 points 21 months ago

Well....I am considering trying something a little more, shall we say, gwafic-wee intenswive

senstalex 2 Builds 1 point 21 months ago

I have pretty much the same build as this one. excpet I got a gtx560 online for $75 after s and h. the 2gb version works great! ebay is a great outlet for graphics cards since they raerly have issues.
