The Silver Trash Can

After deciding to come back to the states from China to complete my last year of high school, I was yearning to tinker with a desktop after being fed up with the limited expandability and heat output of notebooks (Didn't have any heating in China). I decided to start from scratch.

Component Choice:

I decided on the Ft03 Mini due to it's minuscule footprint on a desk. Yes, it's a bit tall but still shorter than your average case, and most important of all, it's damn sexy. The choice of PSU was mostly due to the limited selection of SFX power supplies and since the modular version would interfere with the hard drive mounts.

Chose the 1230 V3 since it offers much more performance than the 4670k at stock for $250 and for the sheer awesomeness when looking at the CPU graph in task manager.

Asrock's Z87E-ITX was the only motherboard available with AC wifi when I purchased my components, and after factoring in the cost of buying a cheaper motherboard and replacing the wifi card with an intel 7260, I decided to just spend the extra dough.

I originally planned on getting a Corsair H60, but the Seidon was hard to pass for 15 bucks.

Ram was also decided based on price and decent timings.

Originally planned on purchasing the 4GB 760, but it was out of stock......

After 3 hrs of building, I installed windows 8 using a flash drive and bought a license off taobao. CPU idles temps= 30 Prime95=60 ish

Gpu fan was loud at idle so I tried multiple bios from different manufacturers and ended up with Gigabyte's which allowed fan speed to decrease to 25% from 40%, as well as replace thermal paste with IC Diamond. Did a quick overclock to 1207 and used nvflash to flash the clock to bios.

All in all I'm quite happy with this build.

You just took off your GPU cooler and cleaned the TIM for the fun of it? :)

I saw that and was like WHOA, A WATER COOLED FT03B-M BUILD?? >_>

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool I'm not sure if you wanted to install the OS from a usb drive or onto one. To install from a usb drive you can use the tool in the link above.

Well what I want to do is buy a disk version of windows 8, transfer it onto a usb, then install from that usb

The link I provided above would work then. It says windows 7, but I've used it for windows 8.1 countless times. Simply download and install it. Insert your disk. plug in your flash drive then follow the instructions.
