EDIT: okay had to add this in so ppl stop ASSUMING, this system is nearly (or more than) 5 years old, but the case is 8 years old!! the PSU was a gift from an Inlaw 2 years ago, cause the cheap *** 400W psu i had died!, and my original GPU died (it was a 550Ti, where i live gets really hot, and i leave it running 24/7 cause friends and family contact via Skype, so the GPU fan died), and as for Graphics card upgrade!, since i don't/refuse to play alot of FPS games, i don't really need a super B.A. GPU

1st of all, couldn't find the cheap case i use

As for use, just a gaming rig, LOL, SWTOR, D3, WOW, TES3:Morrowiond (MGSO modded), X3: Albion Prelude.

Will eventually do the upgrade list i have on here so i can more easily record/stream some of my games! but this old dual core struggles, major bottleneck, not bad for nearly 4 years old!

a few reasons for the upgrades im looking at, 1: CPU, come on need i say more, need more coresssss 2: The cooler, reason im going for that Zalman unit is that the NB on my mobo runs super hot under load, about 70c, i know its normal for them, but rather some sort of cooling 3: The Case, my case is soo old and dated, its from like 6+ years ago, no top vents, still has funnel style vent pipe from the side, only like 3 hdd bays, no cable management area! 4: the HDD, couldn't find my HDD on there so i used to next closest, my HDD is actually a SATAII

700w is OVERKILL. At this price I would've gotten a cx430, saved $50, put it towards a 260x instead of those horrible graphics cards.

Xmas present last year! cost me AUD$0

xx116xx 3 Builds 4 points 45 months ago

That awkward moment when the PSU is the most expensive thing in the build...

AustinTheTimelord 3 points 45 months ago

Maybe Hopefully, OP plans on upgrading.

Xantosh submitter 2 Builds -1 points 45 months ago

it was an Xmas present last year, so it was the cheapest thing ;)

You're still going to want to consider replacing that thing. The Thermaltake TR2-series PSUs aren't known for their steadfast build quality (they're more well known for frying parts). You could probably get a low watt Silverstone **-series unit for around $50.

Since you're losing parts due to the heat, perhaps you might want to consider upgrading your cooling solutions. I know how expensive parts are down there, so you might want to spend a bit more on cooling now, and save a lot on nuked parts later.

Instead of upgrading, I would suggest selling everything and starting over. If you can find the right person, you might be able to sell this for $550-$600. And with that, you can get an FX-6300 and R9 270.

Swish2000 1 point 45 months ago

He would get a much larger return I think if he sold the RAM, PSU, maybe HDD and Motherboard on /r/hardwareswap :)

Xantosh submitter 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

don't need to sell everything, mobo is more than enough, upgrading cpu and HDD, and maybe graphics for now, would be more then sufficient! and rather get FX-8320, even though my mobo can just handle the FX-9370!

AustinTheTimelord 1 point 45 months ago

Will we get any pics?

Xantosh submitter 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

not till i can get a better case, im using a basic case that is like 6+years old! and i don't do fancy lighting or anything! so nothing special!

Nice budget build man! Enjoy!

shapaza 3 Builds 3 points 45 months ago

Lol seriously? He could've gotten a lower-wattage PSU from a better brand name, and he could've gotten a way better graphics card like a 7770 (for a budget build)

Mediciu5 3 Builds 2 points 45 months ago

Maybe I'm missing something but he references two time frames related to his build. 4 years ago and 6 years ago. Was the 7770 out and affordable 4 years ago? Or were the drivers still crap?

On the flip side, the OP should remove the pricing data and mark the hardware as purchased to avoid new/old build construction.

Xantosh submitter 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

still new to this site, so still trying to understand all the editing options

Thankyou, didn't see the purchased parts option, if i can find all the old paperwork, i would put prices up, bought most from a computer store that was closing down!, 6 years ago was the case only, everything else is like 3 to 4 except vidcard, old vidcard died this year, so i picked that up for about AUD$100 (that is cheap considering how overpriced **** is in my town!)

Yea I got my CX500M for $40 and my 7770 graphics card for $109 but I can run Skyrim on Ultra surprisingly well. I just checked and my graphics card must have been on sale when I bought it because it's $135 now .-.

Xantosh submitter 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

or he could have got the psu for nothing, because an inlaw via family had a spare one sitting around! also this system is nearly 3 years old!

shapaza 3 Builds 2 points 45 months ago

And this is why I need to read the descriptions.

Sorry about that OP.

Xantosh submitter 2 Builds 1 point 45 months ago

i added an Edit at the top, that way no more confusion!
