Description

Built this computer for my wife during '15 XMAS, it's mainly used for gaming, hence the i5. Solid all-around, great airflow, and the 980ti is more than she needed.

It's got a small OC at 4.2Ghz, the Aquacharger keeps it at 60 under AIDA stress test. Pretty good for such an inexpensive cooler.

She's been loving it :)

+1 for baby

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 32 points 32 months ago

I'll be frank, the baby serves no functional purpose and is purely for cosmetic benefits.

mouzzampk2014 2 Builds 4 points 32 months ago

:) brilliant

death9251 1 Build 2 points 32 months ago

LOL there is truth to that statement!

Bakon_ 1 point 16 months ago

The baby's functional purpose is to be an excuse as to why you were up all night.

Hows The Baby Working underload

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 32 points 32 months ago

Very inefficient power consumption. Huge amount of power draw with next to nothing output.

Fail product, -2/10. lol

Iceman320 1 Build 21 points 32 months ago

The Babies I have seen seem to have decent output, although you need to change the bottom liquid catch regularly as the reservoir leaks :/

ItzCyberPlayz 3 points 32 months ago

lol xD

SquareOreo 3 points 32 months ago

Would recommend upgrading ram

snivyguy 2 points 32 months ago

put some avexir core series in there and it will look pretty good

Pcjulian12343 1 point 32 months ago

ATXON 12 points 32 months ago

Have you overclocked baby yet?

ItzCyberPlayz 1 point 32 months ago

lol

G_I_L 1 point 32 months ago

Yeah and what are the temps?

audionfire 1 point 22 months ago

I hope nothing over 37 degrees C.

G_I_L 2 points 22 months ago

37 is ideal, yes.

Congrats for feature spotlight! A very lovely build for your wife and a lovely family you have! (Realizing from your avatar after I saw photos.) I love black and red schemes very much. Also excellent parts, it will serve her well for quite some time. You have my one and support.
jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

Thanks! I know black/red builds are over done, but the wife loves this build. Although, I am working on a new project for her :) something to push her back to gaming (cuz she quit after the baby) =/

Also, this avatar photo was taken during same time the rig was built, coincidentally, lol.

Eltech 20 Builds 1 point 32 months ago
Thank you for sharing this build and you are most welcome. Even though the black and red computers are common, I never was tired of them. Working on a new project for her? How exciting!

something to push her back to gaming (cuz she quit after the baby) =/

Yes, that is understandable when a little one is a part of the family. Your whole world changes and become very devoted to your baby.

Also, this avatar photo was taken during same time the rig was built, coincidentally, lol.

That is even more awesome. :)

G_I_L 1 point 32 months ago

Cable management on baby could be better though

swans_to_be_kind 3 Builds 2 points 32 months ago

So funny that I noticed your comment on the last featured build... "I was going to post my new rig today, in the hopes that it would be featured. Thank god I didn't, it wouldn't have stood a chance against this monster."

+1

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

I did say that :) Turned out to be true lol

mudcatslim 2 points 32 months ago

I am pretty new to computers, haven't been into them for very long.

Always was kinda skeered to actually go and pick one up.

Much less make one.

Terminology such as master/slave was something I never really thought about.

Same could be said for young un's.

Now after two kids it ain't no thing.

I ain't skeered no mo.

They don't break nearly as easy as I first thought. Pretty forgiving to boot.

Love my kids.

Hope I can say the same about my first computer build LOL.

Nice build and nice looking kid.

Oh yeah.

The master/slave thingy?

Just go and ask my little girl who's who.

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

Nice poem lol

Minky7 3 Builds 2 points 32 months ago

chrispdm1 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

Awesome title, great build, although a little heavy on the PSU side. +1

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 2 points 32 months ago

Thanks :)

We actually bought the PSU used, for the price of a G2 750W. So we figured, might as well get this one lol.

chrispdm1 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

Well that explains it nicely, I wondered if it was something like that. Your other builds that I've seen were all pretty much perfectly configured for themselves, didn't think you would go all out on a component that is overkill compared to the rest of the components. Makes for easier recycling in the future... :)

ATXON 1 point 32 months ago

Very nice +1

You should keep this computer around in it's original state so you can show it to your kid when they grow up. It's an idea I got from another build by a parent, but essentially it's so you can show off your top of the line gaming pc to them 10 years later so they can tell you how much it sucks compared to future technology. ;)

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

In 15 years, they'll be like 'WTF is this old ****, my toilet has faster better processor'.

ATXON 2 points 32 months ago

And you'll make them play games from 2014-16 on it and tell them that's how gaming was back in the good old days just for the Schadenfreude.

Or in this case: Dadenfreude.

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

Hey if people are still playing games like WoW and Runescape...I'm sure people will still be playing today's games in 15 years lol.

TheDivineOnyX 1 point 32 months ago

4K might still look great to them though... except they will have like 16K

ItzCyberPlayz 1 point 32 months ago

+1 for the pictures. what camera did you use. i may get one like that

chrispdm1 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

Check out his other builds for more great pics of pc's

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

I have a D810, it's mainly for work but sometimes for personal uses too.

CyberShockz 1 point 32 months ago

ok Thx

Dragonsoul 1 point 32 months ago

Where did you plug in all those fans?

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

I have a silverstone 3 to 1 PWM fan splitter. Despite having a fan hub, I didn't like all those wires running rampant.

Heres the one I used, $5 on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Technology-Sleeved-Splitter-CPF02/dp/B00HJOJS9O

Dragonsoul 1 point 32 months ago

Aren't you worried about damaging the mobo header with 3 fans?

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

Good point, never really thought about it.

I just assumed that if the header can support a fan hub, it surely can support a fan splitter.

rhali8 2 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

Awesome! Just make sure that baby isn't touching the GPU while the computer is on! :P

+1

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

jjkfeng submitter 7 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

Thanks! True, the 4790k is actually on our upgrade list for her next PC.

Eltech 20 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

...the I5 might bottleneck your gpu a bit.

The i5-4690K is overclocked to 4.2GHz, it will be OK with 1080p or 1440p (60Hz) when paired with a GTX 980Ti. In the past it's been recommended to overclock the i5-4690K to 4.0GHz or higher when pairing with a GTX 980 Ti. If there was any bottleneck, it is NOT going to hinder this PC.
Captain_Chicken 2 Builds 1 point 32 months ago

Actually, most games don't make use of hyperthreading, so the I7 won't be needed. Plus the I5 4460 is the maximum a cpu you will need for most games, so even the 4690k will be overkill.

Thanks! I'm actually working on a complete do-ever for the phanteks evolve glass build.

It will be coming out soon in a week or two. So watch out for that :)
