So a short and simple build description.

This build is primarily for gaming. It has changed quite a bit from my Haswell/Radeon RX build back in 2017. Most of these parts were bought around Christmas 2017 and March 2018. I've had zero issues with this PC and it plays everything I want it to very well.

i5-8400 This was a no brainer as I don't need to overclock with this thing locked @ 3.7ghz boost on all six cores.

Deepcool Gabriel Mainly this because I like the look of the RGB fan blowing down on the motherboard.

Gigabyte H370M D3H Simple no frills, plenty of features motherboard. Not the best sound chip but it is all that I need.

Crucial Ballistix Tactical Got this for a "steal" at the time. Runs @ 2666 on my system. Again, more than I need.

Adata XPG SX6000 Bought this to replace an old 120gb SSD that was dying. It's not the fastest but again, more than I need... (See a theme yet?)

Seagate Barracuda 3TB Still have about 1.5TB left after I downloaded my Steam library.

Zotac GeForce GTX 1070ti AMP Edition This paired with my monitor is the pride and joy of my setup. With my preferred settings I get between 100-120 FPS on PUBG @1440p and with G-sync it is beautiful.

Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Great little case. A lot of customization as to orientation and very VERY good airflow. Not the quietest but for this price it can't be beat.

EVGA SuperNOVA G3 These have gotten a lot of flack because of there OPP issues. I don't care.

Deepcool RF 120 Great RGB fans, especially for the price.

Dell S2417DG This monitor is amazing. Had to adjust the colors a bit to get exactly what I wanted, but for gaming on an NVIDIA graphics card I can't imagine much better than this.

Patriot Viper V760 I'm a huge fan of brown switches and I couldn't tell the difference between Kalih and Cherry MX so went with what was cheaper. This keyboard in no feels cheap though. Solid build quality and great feel.

SteelSeries Rival 300 Love this mouse. Bought this before the 310 came out, but I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Kingston HyperX Cloud Stinger Bought these as a need since my old Logitech 230 broke. Great sound, and am always surprised by what I can hear in game.

Part Reviews

Video Card

Easily overclocked to +160 on the core and +80 on the VRAM. Sits around 2090 on the boost clock when gaming at 73-75 degrees.

At this price it can't be beat. Utterly smooth game play with good color reproduction. You may have to tweak some settings to get exactly what you want but that takes away nothing from this remarkable monitor.

Great keyboard for the price. Solid build quality with my favorite switches. Simple but useful software allows for personalized customization.

Nice build! I think it would look cooler if you matched up all the colors +1

Part of the problem is the lighting. I like to have a two tone look, and currently it's Blue and yellow but the colors look much better together in person than they do in the pictures.

Looks great... I like it! +1

Whats the case? It's not listed in parts or description

I fixed it. It's the Cooler Master Masterbox Q300L. I'm a big fan of how you can orient it to several different positions.

That can't be comfortable when you're typing. Ever considered a smaller mouse pad so your keyboard is more centered?

jsoutherland89 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

I've actually considered a larger mouse pad. One that I can set most of my setup on. The whole desk is a little uncomfortable because I'm 6'7". The keyboard positioning is the least of my problems lol

Finally got a new desk. Much more comfortable.

Over Power Protection.

it can't be upside.... wait a minute it is!

I think its so they can access the usb and audio ports on the right hand side XD!

Still good build!

Yeah but that doesn't explain all the components in the case being flipped 180 upside down (not saying its a bad choice just that it stands out compared to all other "right" way up builds)

Colya1 1 point 4 months ago

also that case's feature to flip the window doesn't change the orientation of the "side" io

jsoutherland89 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 4 months ago

I moved the feet to the opposite side so I could the use it in an upside down orientation. So all the bottom level fans are intake and the the top fan and power supply are venting air out the top and back.

That's one of the things I love about this case.
