Description

After gaming on a Cooler Master HAF X for 7 years, I decided it was time for a change... a big change. I considered many cases and chose the be quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 (black) to anchor my next gaming PC.

I had originally planned on cooling this machine with an EKWB MLC Phoenix but decided on a big air cooler at the last minute. I'm very happy with the NH-D15 and Noctua fans. I have not delidded the i7 8700K; temperatures shown reflect the CPU in its factory form.

I drew some inspiration from builds by SLOWION and TheBananaBandit and finished it just in time for Far Cry 5 in March 2018.

The SanDisk X400 for my game library was carried over from my previous PC.

Intel Core i7 8700K, 47x on all six cores with 1.210 V, 2666MHz XMP with 1.2 V

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition, factory clocks

The CPU & GPU temperatures were measured at 24.5C ambient (76F).

Great build, but why do you opt out for a fan CPU cooler + K processor type while not overclocking?

Thanks dekharin. (1) I chose the Noctua NH-D15 because I've used AIO coolers on other builds for many years and wanted a change. (2) I opted for a Z370 board and i7 8700K because it was a better fit for my usage over the i7-7800X that I originally wanted. (3) I clocked the CPU to a paltry 47x because that is what I'm conformable with right now. The PC performs great and is extremely quiet.

I have the same case, where did you get those extra rubber gromets on the hard drive slots?

Also take a look at this page, it might interest you https://www.v1tech.com/shop/psu-covers/quiet-dark-base-pro-900-blank-psu-cover/

Thanks Uk_1991! Those PSU covers are awesome.

I purchased the extra rubber grommets from be quiet! using their contact page. It was a spare parts order.

Yeah I was gonna say, I think virtually all 8700Ks can get as high as 4.9. Luck starts to creep in at 5.0 and above.

Mine does 5.0 good and stable at 1.34 Vcore, however I didn't like the temps (70C+ under full load), plus I keep my AIO fans constant at 45 percent because it's quiet. So I changed to 4.9 and reduced voltage, now my CPU around 58-62C while gaming, pretty comfortable for me. Now, 8700k stock is actually 3.7 with turbo 4.7, changing 4.7 on all cores counts as an overclocked too, because this is a frequency that you CPU will work all the time but no boost.
