Part Reviews

Awesome. Specifically put my build off a few months for it, definitely worth it in my opinion. I feel like my PC will keep up for much longer than if I had gone with my original plan of a i7-7700K. Not overclocked yet, but stays much cooler than I expected (idle around 25C, gaming around 55C, and highest I saw was with Prime 95 it was around 65C), so I may put an all core clock at 4.7 and see how it goes.

CPU Cooler

Great. Was worried about getting a liquid cooler at first but after seeing it in my case it just looks amazing. The fans it comes with are good, but the pump is a little louder than I expected so -1 for that.

Awesome. Was looking for a relatively cheap motherboard, and this one has everything I need and nothing that I don't.

It's RAM. It overclocks to 3200 Mhz as expected.

Already owned, taken from my old laptop. Bought from a friend awhile back for only $20. Best deal I've probably ever gotten. Makes my computer boot in seconds, and Windows all around speedy. I'm used to have a 250 GB drive so space isn't a necessity for me. If I do feel like it I may purchase a larger M.2 drive down the line.

Video Card

Okay. Runs games like a beast but has terrible coil whine. Unfortunately it's past NewEgg's 30 day return period, so I'll probably do an RMA through ASUS... hoping that works out. A bit disappointed after spending so much on a product only to have issues.

Fantastic case. Great airflow. Easy to build in. Looks beautiful. No complaints at all.

Great monitor with few flaws. I keep it at 144Hz because any higher and I've heard there are issues. Limited viewing angles because it's TN, but the color (after calibration) is actually much better than others I've seen. Slight bit of backlight bleed in one corner but only noticeable on solid black screens. Otherwise a ridiculously low price for what you're getting.

Great beast for a PC you got there! +1

More photos please!!!

I guess you, too, are a fan of blue?

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 3 points 15 months ago

Thanks! And the pictures make it look more blue but it's actually like a blue-purple. But yes, I'm a fan of blue lol

Thanks! :D

Sure you threw down some cash but this build is so good you won't need to upgrade for many, many YEARS :ogling eyes:

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

Thanks! That's what I'm hoping for :)

Tfor3 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

Where and when did you get your monitor?

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 2 points 15 months ago

Directly from Dell like 2 months ago. They had it on sale for $410 (after taxes), but I did double rebates, one for $50, one for $60. It frequently goes on sale for around that. I've heard rumours they're trying to get rid of them to make room for a new gaming lineup.

Tfor3 1 Build 3 points 15 months ago

Nice! That's a helluva deal you got!

hopper344 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

Where did you get your memory for such a good price?

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

Amazon around mid September. I saw a deal on /r/buildapcsales and snagged it.

I'm so happy that you actually picked up that Motherboard! How do you like it so far, and giving you're with the blue LED, assuming that was your direction?

I also have a coil whine on my ROG Strix 1070, and yet to find out if it's the card or PSU, but in your case it can't be the PSU when you picked a high-quality one.

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 2 points 15 months ago

Yeah! I heard really great things about the Z270 version so that's how I decided to grab this one. Hard to talk about a motherboard other than it does everything I need it to lol physically solid and looks great in my opinion. RGB's are subtle which I like. Also, since the Kraken x62 doesn't support Aura Sync, I basically had to pick a color so I went with my favorite, think it turned out pretty well. Not too upset about that since I don't really want flashing colors while I'm trying to focus.

If it ends up being your card do you think you'll RMA it? It seems like a common issue to have coil whine, especially at high frame rates... I expected it but I feel like mine is exceptionally loud. If I wasn't wearing headphones I don't think I could stand it. Also I heard one trick you can do is to roll up a piece of paper and stick it to your ear to nail down where the sound is coming from. In my case it is definitely the card.

yveshe 5 Builds 1 point 15 months ago

Thanks for the reply! This Motherboard is currently my favorite off the Z370-series of all Motherboards just because of the blue LED and has all the features an average gamer/consumer would ask for. However, since you can install Wi-Fi, do you know how you can install it, because when I searched for any info regarding the Motherboard I didn't quite get? Kinda sucks it's optional...

As for my GPU, well... I should (again) try the rolling-paper-to-ear method, although I hardly hear any coil whine assuming it's because of my Monitor (which is exactly the same as yours) and V-sync isn't turned off. Last time I've heard it loud was when Call of Duty: WWII's beta was available, it was really loud. I think even when I just launched the new Wolfenstein game, but don't hear it anymore.

Best-case scenario is to RMA the card if I can't stand the sound anymore and would start be worried, send back my crappy PSU I was recommended to pick and get a cheap and reliable PSU, like the Corsair CXM-series or the TXM-series, depending on the prices in my country.

Fantastic! More photos please

And how that mobo handle oc-ing?

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

Thanks! And to be honest I haven't even tried. Should probably at least see where I stand in the lottery lol

Yahtadi 1 point 15 months ago

Let me know if you gone wild ocing with that mobo. Help me alot deciding what my next system will be(Have not been upgrading since AMD fx series)

xXxfossyxXx 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

What did you think of building in that case? I built in that case for my first build and had such a breeze.

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

I have nothing to compare it to since it's my first build but I thought it wasn't too difficult. No complaints really :)

Noorquacker 1 point 15 months ago

It's funny how I've never upgraded since Sandy Bridge because I went from gaming to productivity. Over those 6 years, I've always helped other people choose components and build their first PC, and they've all had great success. So far I've learned how to choose their CPU and GPU: what do they do, what will they do, and what's their budget. Now I've tried upgrading and have been staking out the 8700K for a while, and just my luck, I got the motherboard and RAM, and hesitated before getting the 8700K. Now I haven't been able to get one since October 5.

itscourts 1 point 15 months ago

Nice! Whats the fan configuration on the radiator? Are you using 4 fans for it?

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

Just the 2 intake fans you can see. Pull config (for easier cleaning).

CSGOmustang 1 point 15 months ago

Do you have any issues with the NZXT Kraken x62? I read that some were having issues with the software and they didn't recommend it. However, out of all the 8700k builds on this site, 8 have used the x62 so it has to be good. Thanks!

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

It cools fantastic, it keeps it around 25 idle, 55 gaming, and 65 was the highest I saw (given I still haven't overclocked). My biggest complaint would be the noise, the pump is the loudest part of my system. The software can also be kind of annoying... but really I only used it for setting the color and fan/pump speeds and haven't touched it since.

CSGOmustang 1 point 15 months ago

That the cam software people have complaints about right? So I can just turn that software off? It cools great!

so_dynamic 1 point 15 months ago

almost exactly the build I'm thinking of going with, might stick with this mobo if it's doin well with this build.

Nachtmsk 1 point 15 months ago

Hey, did you have to do any modding to fit the 280 Rad on the front?

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 14 months ago

No modding. Just took out the CD drive so that it would fit in the top portion. You can actually fit a 360 rad if you take out the hard drive cages on the bottom.

Nachtmsk 1 point 14 months ago

Oh Thanks, I'm Doing a X299 build in this case over Christmas, can't wait!

pherf 1 point 14 months ago

This is a clean/great looking build!!

I noticed someone else said that "the red dual BIOS LED can't be disabled" but noticed yours is not visible?

Is there something over it or were you able to disable it after all?

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Yeah... I haven't found a real solution to that... I just placed a small piece of electrical tape over the LED.

pherf 1 point 13 months ago

Ah that seems reasonable. Much appreciated!

DatGuyOz 1 point 13 months ago

Dope PC I have the same motherboard and I was wondering if you somehow shut off a red LED light on the bottom of the motherboard. And if so how did you do it since I also have a black and blue setup but the red LED is clashing. no worries if you don't have one but I'm trying to find solutions to it.

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 13 months ago

Just a small piece of electrical tape... not the ideal solution but it works :P

DatGuyOz 1 point 13 months ago

OH I did not think about that. Thanks for the info I appreciate it!

Longhand 1 point 6 months ago

felt tip pen!

johnyboy102 1 point 12 months ago

Can you change the color of the motherboard lights? thx!

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

Yes you can.

ruffino 1 point 11 months ago

Did the case come with 1 or 2 fans?

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 11 months ago

The case came with 2 fans (the white ones pictured).

beancounter27 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Congrats on your first build. I will be doing my first build in the next week or so.

My question relates to our AIO. Is there a reason one way or another to have the fans on the inside/outside of the radiator? I'm wanting to eventually get NZXT's Aer RGB fans, but was wondering if I should install them on the outside. I have the Phanteks case now, so there's not much to see on the front/outside.

I guess my real question is, is how is the dust management on the radiator if you're pulling the air in?

Sorry for blabbering... =) Excited.

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Thank you! I only installed fans on the inside for easier cleaning (figured it'd be easier to wipe off the radiator than wiping off the fans). Cooling should be the same either way.

I haven't needed to clean it yet, but I imagine it won't be terrible.

Hope your build goes well! :D

beancounter27 1 Build 1 point 10 months ago

Thanks & Thanks! =)

beancounter27 1 Build 1 point 9 months ago

Done! Thanks for the inspiration! https://pcpartpicker.com/b/DDmqqs

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 2 points 9 months ago

No problem, and awesome build btw!!

Longhand 1 point 6 months ago

Have you tried to flash the bios on your Asrock yet? Mine hung and won't allow me to enter the bios anymore. I've tried everything available from Asrock apps, but can't get in. Two different keyboards won't crack it either.

If you have any other solutions, drop me a line!

Whynotho 1 point 5 months ago

Hey there this looks awesome! I was looking tos actually build this myself how has it held up for gaming? Could it run something like...ARK Survival Evolved at max settings?

KevinNovak submitter 1 Build 1 point 5 months ago

It's held up perfect! I haven't played ARK but I also haven't really found a game that I can't play on max (or near max) settings.

aleinen0608 1 point 2 months ago

Awesome build as I have one similar. I'm jealous of your cable management...that looks great.
