OLD POST With a $1500 budget and months of planning (Thank you PCPartPicker, Linus Tech Tips, and Newegg.com) I think I did pretty well!

I wanted to build a pretty powerful Gaming/Workstation PC for film school. So I kind of cheated on the price below, I'm definitely not done with this build as I will be doing better overclocks on the CPU (did the auto-overclock in the UEFI BIOS and it gave back a small 0.13 ghz increase... lol) and GPU, replacing half the fans with Noctua iPPC PWM 140mm, and doubling the RAM as well as nabbing a 1TB of SSD storage! As of right now, I'm glad to have learned a new skill and I'm currently enjoying Overwatch at +110 FPS! :D

All critiques are welcome!

UPDATE: New Fans and Headphones. Decided to splurge on some new tech, instead of what I actually need (storage). But I'll probably invest in a HDD in a couple of weeks. Also added other peripherals to give a more a accurate price of the entire build. I did purchase the PC critical parts, by itself for $1500 so if you like build, you don't really need the peripherals if you already have others.

Part Reviews

If you allocate your budget to a good AIO + high static airflow fans or any water cooler config, overclocking is a breeze! Other than that, out of the box, its a bit overkill for non-overclockers.

CPU Cooler

First time using an AIO, and I expected a bit more, but this cooler allows for really good headroom for the average overclocker.

It's a good, white-themed, board among many gamer black/red themed boards.

Not the cheapest gigs per performance RAM on the market, but they're low profile for annoyingly large coolers, design and color choice makes it pretty good!

Great 4K read/write! Enough said. Will be looking to get the larger capacity versions soon.

Video Card

Great card and completely silent at idle! Overclocking is good even for the non-OC'd edition, as long as you know what you're doing. My results are 2110 Ghz Boost Clock from 1721 GHz, and Memory clock boosted 8688 GHz from 8008 GHz.

Has pretty much everything you can want out of case: Large to accommodate really any component, good airflow, cable management is easy. Did I mention it that it's just cool to look at!

Power Supply

Great semi-passive PSU for single GPU systems. Paired with a STRIX card, both components have their fans off to provide positive pressure to the case reducing the threat of dust coming into the system!

Case Fan

Quiet and Cool. Simply the best fans one can invest in.

A bit too bright on stock and other settings, also a very glossy bezels that are easily scratched and marked. All That aside, for the money, these are high performance monitors that won't let you down in whatever content you push through it.

Fans of Cherry Switches, will like the alternative ROMER-G's. Honestly, I don't feel much a difference between different kinds of switches, but after using this keyboard for months I don't know where I'd be if I couldn't program different modes and lighting patterns/groups for macros while editing or playing games. The software is easy to use and the keyboard is easy to clean and responsive! Can't go wrong if you're thinking of purchasing this keyboard.

The feet at the bottom of the mouse get pretty beat up on a hard surface quite easily, more easily than one would expect, but this is a great comfortable mouse for MMO gamers or for people that just like have inputs for pretty much anything.

Been using these for 4-5 weeks... These are not that different from the Siberia 800s, aluminum painted caps hide the batteries and charge port (which you should never use because the rechargeable batteries are hot-swappable). The difference is that you won't miss phone calls or texts if using the blue tooth feature. The headphones are easy to setup to work with pretty much anything you can imagine: TV, PC, Consoles, Phone. I did have problems trying to hook this up to an iPad tablet, but I hardly use tablets, so definitely not a deal breaker. Other than that, build quality is very good, but you will need to break these in like a new pair of shoes. The clamp around the head is definitely tight at first, but the clamp does ease off and they become quite comfortable, and as far as I can tell, show no signs of loosening up. For the price point, one would expect great sound, they do, but only through the Optical connection everything else some frequencies sound hollow if you're not using a sound card. The microphone is definitely not the greatest and some may consider barely serviceable, but I've made phone calls through Skype and my iPhone and everyone I talked understood me, so decent. All in all, if you're looking for a great all in one solution to drive your addictions in games, movies, and communications these are some of the best.

Nice build. How's the overclocking with the mobo?

AnAngrySamaritan submitter 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

Pretty friendly, actually, but honestly I commend the components rather than any Overclock ability I have. The 6700k on an AIO and STRIX GPU really go a long way!

AnimeGamer 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

Did you buy the i7 Z170 combo ?

AnAngrySamaritan submitter 1 Build 1 point 32 months ago

No I missed out... I did get a combo on the H110i GT and 6700k tho
