Description

Hallo everybody!

I bought this case in 1999. Until yesterday there was an old Athlon Thunderbird@1,4Ghz with an VIA KT133A chipset working in it. (Yes the good old Thunderbird from 2000) ;-) Some weeks ago i had to take a decison, should i throw away this old case or not....so my decison was to make a midrange gaming PC with it. I have to say that my blooming period in gaming was about the years 1999 to 2001, in the meantime i did not play games untill today... I'm happy to have done this....

I have overclocked the system only a bit, I'm not the one who always goes to the limit. So the FX8320 works at 4,34Ghz(now4,45Ghz) with a VCore about 1,455, CPU to NB +200Mhz@2424Mhz and the MSI R9 270X runns @ 1180/1550Mhz. I'm sure there can be done more but so the system runns very stable also with long tests on prime 95.

The Cooler Master V8 is real monster, he was to big for my old bigtower case so it stands out of the case (photo)! ;-) It's a real good cooler so i have only 49°C on 100% CPU usage over a long time. With my 2 big 34cm coolers on the case I also cool down the whole system. At 100% GPU load it goes from 69°C down to about 59°C! And they are not as loud as they may look like. ;-)

The to big 230V/50Hz fans are speed controlled by an potentiometer which is mounted on the left side down. When they are at low or mid speed they are very quiet. But if they get to maximum speed the Tower vibrates! ;-) Maybe with some wings he starts to fly? Maybe a good idea for revision 2?

Powerconsumption in idle is 95W and at 100% CPU load with prime95 265W! Thats only the tower with components. The two big fans take between 35 and 120W. ;-)

Update 2.11.2014 20:00: Now the FX8320 runns at 4,45Ghz Vcore 1,46V Prime 95 tested...

Remember its from the 90s and 15 years old...I know its not that kind of moding 99% of all others do...;-)

I can see that airflow is not a problem. I built my first server in a case like this, just not with those fans. +10 for recycling ingenuity, +20 for sheer insanity! :)

****! what is that? +1 for insanity, it's an Aiflow Master err monster! I counted 6x 5 1/4 bay this really is what it looks like: full tower case, exactly what I was telling my friends to buy in the late 90'. I think they still hate me for that.

Normaly they are built in in a heatpump. You only have to look for an big Axial Fan. With the littel pen on the left side of the case I can controll the speed of the two fans....

Why is the fan so big??? Lol Good build.

Because I get them for free! ;-) At first I was thinking to build in 2 400VAC ventilators with a diameter of 48cm, but mounting them would have benn much more problem then the smaler ones. Also 400VAC not everybody has @home! ;-)

Jeez, did you pull that fan from your car rad? Thing is enormous! What is the switch at the top right on the front of the case for? That a top mounted PSU?

Would love to see some internal pics. Wonder if my 350d will look that retro in 15 years...

  • 2 points

It's not only one, there are two of them...Internal pics will come in the next days! I have seen you also have big fans in your case ;-) only a little bit more understatement...;-) The switch on the top right is for two fans which are direct above. But I don't need them for sure.

I think I like the old retro white. If he painted it black it'd look more modern and i'm not sure he'd like that.
