Description

This is a continuation of my Bloodworks PC. This time I upgraded to an Intel i9 7980XE. Before putting it in my system I of course delided it. I also went from a Rampage VI Apex to a Rampage VI Extreme and to compensate the lower power pin count I got an EK Monoblock to watercool my VRMs as this CPU can pull 600W+ at load.

Overclocking this beast has been incredibly fun the 7980XE is the best overclocker I have ever had which is insane considering that it's an 18 core CPU. I can get it up to 4.8Ghz on all cores at 1.255V. The CPU Z score is 13,000 multi core and 571 single core. For comparison a stock Threadripper 1950X scores 8,696

multi core.

I do have to say that the memory controller on these HCC chips seems to be noticeably weaker than the LCC chips. My 64GB kit of Trident Z could hit 3800 on my 7900X but only gets 3650mhz on this CPU.

Watercooling the VRM does seem to make my overclocks more stable compared to people air cooling their Rampage I think it's more likely that having my VRM full power instead of spread spectrum is helping my overclock more than my CPU just happening to be some god overclocker. Temps are around 40c idle and 85c load which goes to show how much power this chip pulls because most people watercooling their X299 VRMs get around 60c at load.

Overall I think this upgrade was defiantly worth it as my raw multi core performance is up more than 80% compared to my 7900X.

How much fps can this reach on paint

the physics of this galaxy bottleneck the performance, there's no way to accurately tell

Yep. This particular solar system would be the only factor of bottlenecc to this system

GOD PC? The most perfect build I've seen so far. TY for blessing my eyes, take this +10

jak-jak 2 Builds 5 points 17 months ago

How does one even get to a $2500 custom loop?

dkoense 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

When you buy only the best of the best lol. If I were to spend this much on my pc, I’d buy fitting made of only the finest platinum lol

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 5 points 17 months ago

My water pumps cost $500 alone once you get into high end watercooling it becomes expensive very quickly.

LatiosGaming 2 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

What parts did you use exactly? I am planning on doing my own custom loop when Pinnacle Ridge comes out or Coffee Lake if Pinnacle Ridge sucks.

Pyraxias 0 points 17 months ago

Saying that your pump alone costs 500 is a little misleading, you have 2 pumps and a top that add up to that much lol. I do have to ask, haven't other people found out that those kinds of dual pump tops actually restrict more than they help?

pokemon937 2 points 15 months ago

Yes they do but I don't use it because I need access to the buttons on the motherboard.

bwells46 1 Build 2 points 17 months ago

Gorgeous build. I have many of the same components, but not the building skill you possess.

jayl89 2 points 17 months ago

I kinda agree with the comment about this build being boring. It doesn't look too different from the much cheaper builds besides having expensive parts.

Sykadelik 2 points 17 months ago

The real question is: Can it run minesweeper?

Xizila 1 point 9 months ago

At around 9 FPS when you ocerclocc it.

Nater650 0 points 11 months ago

Yep this is actually overkill for minesweeper

Sykadelik 2 points 11 months ago

sarcasm

skyrise 1 Build 2 points 17 months ago

This is indeed a really powerfull build!

Hitting 4.8GHz at just 1.255V is awesome, but 85°C is really hot for a custom loop. Maybe donwclock to 4.2-4.4GHz at around 1.15-1.225V to gain stability and longevity.

Cheers.

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

I upgrade every 6-8 months aftee which I sell my hardware I am really not concerned about my CPU lasting 5 years

I burned out my 6950X after 8 months but it was not delided so Intel replaced it

skyrise 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

Interesting, I thought overclocking voids the warranty.

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Technically it does but as long *** there is no physical damage there is no way to prove it was overclocked.

bradyn13 1 point 17 months ago

You can also purchase specific overclocking warranty if you want to be absolutely sure and more "by the book".

https://click.intel.com/tuningplan/

It gives some people peace of mind when pushing for extreme overclocks.

aldo11061979 2 Builds 2 points 17 months ago

Can you put CPU-Z scores at stock to compare a 1950x Threadripper. Would like to see those score stock for stock, or at least an overclocked 1950X Instead of Stock vs Overclocked. Thanks !

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Stock 1950X score is around 8,900 and overclocked around 9,500-10,000 at 3.9ghz

Blacksm1le 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

You have a PC that can perform all the functions , you have a monster in your hands possible d'avoir un benchmark as 3DMARK

Wolklung 1 point 17 months ago

Impressive! Somebody came for the crown.

Absolutely superb.

the_naked_nerd 8 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

honest i like the build but is kind boring due to not having any bends all with fittings anyone can do this

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 2 points 17 months ago

I went with ridged bends for the esthetic I really like the way Maingear PCs look and I wanted to use their style. Also ridged bends are easier to take apart drain and reconstruct and I would not be able to do the kind of bend that goes to the monoblock without fittings.

RowanJ22 9 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

PC's like this is the very reason I keep upgrading. Great looks and very powerful, black and red is always a great way to go! My one is yours, long live Bloodworks 3.0!!!

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Not sure about it living long as soon as Volta or the next extreme edition comes out it's gonna be 4.0

SubNauticaWaterWorld47 2 points 17 months ago

Gentleman00 2 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Holy crap, a custom loop and 85 degrees. Did you delid this monster?

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Yeah I did but I don't think there is anything you can do to keep this CPU cool while overclocked besides LN2

Gentleman00 2 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Y'know, this thing reaches 0+ degrees on LN2 at 6.1GHz

bwells46 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

Try undervolting. It's working well with my 7980xe.

noo7na7 1 point 17 months ago

Can I have the 7900X from your old build? I'll offer, uh... $600?

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Using it in another PC not selling it sorry

noo7na7 1 point 17 months ago

No worries, I'm buying a 7820X, maybe a 7900X if I find a really good deal on it. Also, one thing, are you going to keep the Rampage 6 Extreme when the X299 refresh comes out? Or are you getting the "Black Edition" if that becomes a thing?

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

I highly doubt there will be a “black edition” as any upgrade to the Rampage VI would require a new chipset the only things I see changing are maybe a darker design and usb 3.2 If there is a new Rampage I will probably get it as I usually sell my old parts if I am not using them and the upgrade would not cost that much.

noo7na7 1 point 17 months ago

Wow. Well, I'm looking forward to the potentially 8990XE + 4 Titan XV build next year.

myboi 1 point 17 months ago

but can it run crysis?

killerzcud 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

What do you even use this beast for ?

dkoense 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

Hey man awesome build but I got a quick question about your mouse. I’m looking into getting it as I play a lot of FPS games, but do you find it too heavy to play FPS? I’ve head that the weight kind of drags it down and I was wondering if you had any problems. Thanks in advance, +1 for awesome build

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

I have heard a lot of people saying it's too heavy for FPS. I have very large hands so for me it's just right. If your hands are big I highly recommend.

ASUSTECHMKTJJ ASUS 11 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Looking for a small mouse you can consider the IMPACT, Gladius or Pugio. They are smaller lower in their weight. As Redcraft773 noted, the Spatha is nice for us that have big hands.

bradyn13 1 point 17 months ago

This is unbelieveable... More picks of the back and bottom would be cool though! Help to see everything that is going on with the loop.

Crystalyx 1 point 17 months ago

Brilliant build. Love the vibrant red!

Walakazam 1 point 17 months ago

srsly.... no one in the right mind pays 2500 for a custom loop. u probably just chose expensive parts to make ppl think ur rich. smh.

Sp00n115 1 point 17 months ago

Absolutely beautiful and clean build good job bro!

LIVE_AMMO 1 point 17 months ago

What are you running on your PC? I don't think i've seen a 64 gig ram build before (then again, I only joined this year)

Actually I haven't seen the 18 core i9 also

Hold on a minute, I haven't seen 'THREE' PCIe SSDs in a single build either

Thank God it's only 2 1080ti's - i've seen those before (i think)

+1 FOR THE BIG BANG AND THOUGH IM NOT A BIG FAN OF 'RED', I'M LIKING THIS ONE BIG TIME!

Hector1908 9 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

FaisalHeezan 1 point 17 months ago

How much did the 7980XE boost your performance gaming wise? Is there a point of having more than 4 or 6 cores in a CPU other video editing and streaming? And if possible can you compare the fps score you get for a 7980XE to a 7700k or a Ryzen 1600?

ASUSTECHMKTJJ ASUS 11 Builds 2 points 17 months ago

Depends on the game engine generally a high clock speed 4 core to 7 Thread CPU is going to be the best overall choice but there are some games with heavy AI that can benefit. I have seen this in my own build playing games like total war. For the vast majority though mainstream CPU is the best choice. Of course going with a high end CPU like this allows you to have the best of both worls especially if you overclock the CPU to have both cores & frequency.

FaisalHeezan 1 point 17 months ago

Cool, thanks for the answer!

ASUSTECHMKTJJ ASUS 11 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Beautiful build and thanks for being #TEAMROG a truly impressive build! Best of luck and may your clock speeds be high your temp low and your system stable!

Let me know if you have a social handle and I can include it if we post the system on our social channels.

How did you sepnt 2500 on a lopp, I get 1500 but 2500 like damn? and why did you ues all 90 degree for bends instead of bending the tubing?

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

Yeah most of the money is in fittings and the dual D5 pumps.

marksman 4 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Hey man, I'm gonna do a similiar build. I just wanted to know why all of the 7980xe Rampage Extreme VI builds on here have 1500w power supplies. Is it completely necessary or will I be okay with an EVGA 1200 Supernova? Thanks man

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

Depends on that Vcore your going to run and how many GPUs you have. My build takes about 1200W at load so if you are running just one card 1200W is fine however if you have SLI then I recommend at least 1300W.

marksman 4 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

thanks man!!

jackhammer41730 1 point 16 months ago

What case is that? It looks AWESOME

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

It's a parvum L1.0

It looks awesome however I do not recommend it unless you do not plan to move around your PC at all. The Acrylic bends to much to be put in a car or laid on the side.

XxBatman99xX 1 Build 1 point 15 months ago

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 15 months ago

I don't I just sent it to SiliconLottery $160 to delid it is not much compared to the price of the CPU.

Imagine 4 Titan Vs in a workstation, that's already $12,000. Point being high end hardware can get extremely expensive very quickly.

sweet setup. planning to fill those ram holes?

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

Why, so I can have 128gb? I would be spending $750 to make my system boot up slower for extra ram that wont make any of my apps faster. I use this PC for playing Call of Duty and watching YouTube maybe editing a video once in a while. The 64gb is for RamCache to speed up my raid array but as you can imagine there are diminishing returns to a cache which I have defiantly hit.

Asus Fanboy?

SimonOcean 1 point 10 months ago

Interesting comment that your LCC get better memory clocks than the HCC. Could just be silicon lottery, but interesting to hear regardless... I am trying to decide between 7900x and 7920x. I was wondering if the bigger die size of the 7920x meant that it cooled easier, despite 2 more active cores.

redcraft773 submitter 5 Builds 1 point 10 months ago

I think they would be about the same, the 7900X is more power efficient because it's a maxed out die while the 7920X is the most cut down. I would expect there to be no thermal difference as the 7920 may dissipate heat better but take significantly more power.

Yahtadi 1 point 17 months ago

Yep, this guy knows it

micolash 1 Build 2 points 17 months ago

As a guy who played every cod extensively since MW1, I'd put bo3 as like #3 on best cods list. It seems to get a lot of hate for supply drops and boost jumping, I like the movement in bo3, and supply drops were bs, but its the way games are now unfortunately.

bo1, waw, bo3, mw1, bo2, mw3,mw2, other cods, is my ranking order

zprater 3 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

I'm the same boat as you in terms of experience playing all of the cods, and mine would probably be bo2, mw3, bo3, mw2, bo1, then ghosts. the rests are a toss up as i didn't enjoy them much.

CrazyChief24 5 Builds 1 point 17 months ago

mw1,mw2,mw3, black ops is cool but has network issues. but thats just me. Modern Warfare has had more changes per game then Black ops, or Cod in general now, same game just barely any changes. BF is still a good game, maybe old but physics and gameplay is stil la A+ in my book lol. Have you Tried universal sandbox 2? i would love to see how much you could load the CPU with that game lmao

i think the gun balance was much better for blops 3. IW is so AR dominant that it doesn't make it as fun as blops 3. I only really play competitive (gamebattles/wagers/tournaments) and personally speaking I think that IW was a much more "random" game than blops 3. That's just coming from opinions on the map design, specialist abilities, perk layout, and weapon balance. To each his own though.
