Description

I moved my old PC into a new Enthoo Luxe case. It was bought in mid 2011 and was originally housed in a CoolerMaster CM 690 II advanced. The graphics card was upgraded in 2014 along with the addition of a SSD.

The case had a problem with one of the top LED light's where the green colour would not display making white pink, green blue and distorting most other colours too. I contacted Phantek's support and they sent me a new top for the case which fixed everything. Their support is incredible with quick replies and only ever asked to see a picture of the receipt. Two thumbs up for them especially considering I am an international customer.

The DVD drive faceplate pictured was originally beige but I painted it white to match the rest of the case. It's a decent job and it was either paint it or not have the drive installed at all. The 2m LED strip's adhesive backing was useless so I used a Bosch glue gun to stick it into place.

The desk and monitor stand are custom built and I am incredibly happy with it. At 2200mm in length and 500mm deep it gives me plenty of room to stretch out. It's just perfect for the room and I am so glad I decided to do it.

I recently applied some new thermal paste (GC Gelid Extreme) to the graphics card and dropped temps over 20 degrees celsius now reaching a max of 70c at 25c ambient. Bloody fantastic!

Thanks. The 2500k is a great cpu, it could be a while until I upgrade from that.

rather surprised to see a 20 degree C change on your GPU with new thermal paste. Do you know what was on there before?

It was whatever the factory used but they put on way too much. I included a picture but it's a little blurry. My phone isn't so good unfortunately. HIS have a really good cooler for the card with some huge heat pipes. I was very surprised by the result as well and I wish I had done it sooner.

nice case swap. my friend has a 2500K with Z68 Asrock Extreme 4. nice to see a build with them.

After over 4 years of use I don't have much to complain about on the Asrock Extreme 4. The fan headers could have been placed better but other then that it's done a good job. Good to hear your friend has fine taste.

Question. I am looking at getting the exact same psu and wondered wether you think it is very good.

I've had no issues with it in 4 years and I have not noticed the fan making any noise. The only negative I have found is the cables are ugly.

I might get cable mod cables to match my build then.

As long as it gives good performance I will keep it so I am expecting that to be a while yet especially if Direct X 12 has a meaningful impact. It's incredible that it is still competitive after so long and the positive comments here are testament to it. What a great CPU.

When the time comes for a new processor this PC will make it's way to my wife and I will put together a new one. She is looking forward to the beautiful white case and some purple LED's.
