Only found out about this site 6 weeks ago. I was off writing up this PC build of mine because its old and somewhat boring, but reading other people build on their already old/existing build gave me encouragement to write up my build. I use it mainly to play games and watch videos.
My computer table would be the oldest thing I have which supports all my computer things. I got it around 2010 when I had my previous rig. I used many parts from my previous PC in my current rig. The price you see in the part list is how much I got for them brand new over the years and not current price. I was shocked to see how much my current rig cost me. With this price now I would be able to build a way better beast.
My last tower upgrade was back in March 2016. These are the following parts I got new;
- Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 6
- Intel Pentium i7-6700K
- Corsair HX1000i Platinum 1000W
- Corsair H100i V2
- Gigabyte GTX970 G1 Gaming 4GB X2 (SLI)
- Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz
- Seagate Desktop SSHD 4TB
The other parts I reused from my old build were;
- Samsung 850 EVO 1TB
- Silverstone Raven RV01 case
- 2TB mechanical HDD
- ASUS 24" FDH monitors
- Peripherals (mouse, keyboard, headset)
- LG Blu Ray optical drive (who still uses this right? HAHA)
- Logitech Z506 speakers
I originally wanted the Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 but it was sold out. I went and got the Gaming 6 instead as I didn't want to find it in another store. I got the SLI GTX 970 because at the time it was equivlant/better than the GTX 980 TI and cheaper and 2 GFX looks better than 1 in the tower! HAHAHA
I had an issue with my Corsair 240mm PSU cooler as there was no place to fit the radiator in my case (Raven RV01). OMG. The website will show compatiablity issues due to my case/psu cooler. I didn't want to go buy a new case because I really liked my Raven because it was huge and looked it looked good. I was always a fan of huge gaming cases and I bought it back in 2013. As I was not going to give up my case, I looked around and spotted where I could mount the radiator. Above the PSU bay is a 180mm intake fan. When I was able to remove it, I was happy however I could not get the radiator in ><. Not giving up, I only new I had to do 1 thing to get it in there..... CUT THE CHASSIS!!! and which I had. I hacked away an area next to the hole that allows the PSU cable to go to MOBO area. I just made 1 cut and bent the chassis and tested to see if the radiator will go in and SUCCESS it did. That feeling when you achieve something was overwhelming HAHAHA. I'd bent the chassis back and left it at that. The rest of the install was a breeze. My tower weighs a lot now (case alone almost 14kg!)
No upgrades/changes occured for a while but I upgraded my peripherals as they were old and has issues. I got a Razer Mamba for my birthday in July 2016 and the Razer Firefly, Blackwidow V2 and Kraken 7.1 in Feb 2017. Yes I like Razer products. I love the RGB!!! HEHE. Before these I had Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013, Deathadder and Goliathus, and Plantronic GameCon 777 headset, which all had issues before replacing.
And it brings me here today. When I put in the parts list, I realised I went way overboard with the PSU. I thought I would need a good one as I had SLI GFX and many drives so I got the 1000w just to make sure.
I would like to upgrade some parts of my rig again as my mate has built a new rig and got me all JELLY. I don't know if I will ever upgrade again as I will need to start looking after a little rascal in a few months ;)
What I would like to upgrade is;
- another 16GB ram to bring it to 32GB (same model)
- Corsair Hydro GTX 1080 TI (AKA MSI Sea Hawk X GTX 1080 TI)
- Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Tempered Glass-
- RGB fans!!!
- CableMod ModMesh cable kit
Why I want these parts?
RAM - I want to fill in the 2 other RAM slots. Rather than getting 4X4GB stick, I would rather get more ram.
GFX - I want this GFX as it is AIO and not hardcore enough to do custom water cooling. Also when playing certain games, I max out my GTX 970 4GB memory and cannot play max setting on 1080P T_T
CASE - Yes I did say I was a fan of huge PC case however as I am much older and mature, I don't need that big flashy case no more. There's to much space and want something smaller and not over the top. This case was perfect as there was only 1 optical bay and 2 3.5" HDD bays, big side glass and a PSU shroud that hides the cable and HDD's.
FANS - MORE RGB THATS WHY!!!
CABLE - I like the cleaner look cable mid gives.
Well, I hope you enjoy my story and can't wait to read more.
