Description

Summer of 2014, I'm just chillin and all of a sudden my friend calls me up to tell me he had built a pc. My mind blanks out for a second and I'm speechless. The notion of building a pc blew my mind; and so I started researching. For three years I've been lurking. I've seen many featured builds come and go. I've built many part's list, some built for a budget, others built to be for the 1% of the 1%. All nighters were pulled off on this website. I was getting restless.

Winter of 2015, One of my uncle's ask me to fix his old p4 system. It's up to you whether or not I fixed it... I didn't. I gutted out everything, including the optical drive to be used as a 5.25' drive cover and as a partial cable management/drive bay. I zip tied the included fan to the front as an intake. I removed the front panel an uneccesary amount of times... it broke... some tape... bada bing bada boom... it's a case with a nice front panel.

Summer of 2017, My uncle asks me to help him out cleaning this old house. Me expecting some form of payment, I agree. The upstairs of the house was mostly empty, we finished up quickly there. Then we get to the basement, nothing special but then we start digging. ALAS! We find the hidden treasure amongst the turmoil. A whole collection of action figures that were still in the box. They were mostly MGS figures from 98' but some were from diablo II and there were a couple others. We finish up digging and think were done... But then the inexplicable happened, we wind up finding a couple sega consoles (genesis & saturn), an atari, and a 3D goldstar. A month later I end up with $300... and so it begins.

I knew ryzen 3 was going to come out soon so I figure why not wait. While I'm waiting I find this craigslist deal for an r9 280x for $80, so I pick it up. I wait... and wait... and wait... ryzen 3 release... wait... Time to go to microcenter! I buy the bundled processor and mobo and I get a 1TB drive on sale. I get home, setup, and build. I try my best to cable manage. Took me about an hour to build. I install windows 10. And now I'm here, don't have internet as of yet (this post was done on my phone) in about a week when I do get internet I'll probably start stress testing, benchmarking, and giving my hand to some kb/m gaming. I also want to see the difference in perfomance at stock vs overclocked (cpu, gpu, and ram).

P.S My mother and grandmother both contributed in the making of this build. PSU & RAM were bought somewhere in May of this year.

"Number three of Ryzen 3" Didn't realize that till now. Mom and grams are proud :-D "May your computer serve you well and enjoy it." I'm gonna try to make the most of it ;-)

i demand to have pictures of the MGS figures

Snake!

"!"

mechadago submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Sadly I can't meet your demands. I pawned them off and never took any pictures of them. You can find pictures of them if you search up "mgs action figures 98". Had the entire collection too!

dragoon20005 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

damn they must be worth quite a sum if there are still in the original packaging

mechadago submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

They were in original packaging, but were slightly damaged. Probably could've made off with a bit more. Me not wanting to wait any longer just decided to pawn off the whole lot.

dragoon20005 4 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

yea if each were around 20-30 dollars and in some cases in mint condition is almost 100 bucks!

just 10 of them will be like 300 dollars to even 1000 bucks!

and diablo 2 figures for some fans fetch a lot as well

some of the treasures you found are sough after by collectors and will pay a lot for the whole lot.

Wish I knew that before! Oh well

mechadago submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

"Btw love it box tape and all" Only way to love it :-)

Gooberdad 10 Builds 1 point 19 months ago

That's right!

Nice remodelling of an ole case into a new fast PC. I know I had owend the same type of dell tower like that with a Pentium 4 and Windows XP, But then I landed up taking it to the dump, I wish I didn't lol...

+1

Vergere 7 Builds 2 points 19 months ago

that is some crazy good RAM for this build! +1

mechadago submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Planning on overclocking it soon. So hopefully it boosts performance, seeing as though ryzen performs better with faster ram. Thanks for the up :-D

Remendador 1 point 19 months ago

This RAM kit can oc pretty high, I've seen people oc'ing it up to 3000+ MHz. O.o. And that R3 can keep up with Intel i5, also even on GTX 1060 the bottleneck is on the GPU, not on the R3. Pretty solid build!

AMAZING!

So cool to see Sleeper builds like this on the website. They're not all that common.

As for the action figures, you should've held onto them for a bit longer. They might be worth more.

mechadago submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Thanks! I figured why not reuse the case and save a little money. As for the action figures... welp I learned my lesson :-P

joshzpants 3 Builds 2 points 19 months ago

awesome build

mechadago submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

I thank you Master "joshzpants" Cheif. :-)

Terminator7577 2 points 19 months ago

Nice to see some cheap budget builds on this website! Love the build!

mechadago submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

They are few in number. But they are strong in budget. Thanks for the up!

LostElement 7 Builds 2 points 19 months ago

Wow, that is exceptional cable management for an OEM case. Very clean! Great job, mate!

mechadago submitter 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

Thank you! I wanted to prioritize good cable management in an OEM case, so I had planned out part of it during the time I was waiting. I changed somethings up during the build, but it all turned out well in the end :-)

Nice sleeper, still sporting P4 / XP stickers

mechadago submitter 1 Build 2 points 19 months ago

Thank you! I decided to leave them on, adds to the sleeper look. It also looks pretty cool :-P

Why wasn't this featured, I shake my head in shame. Sleeper... AND RYZEN 3!

Nice one, kid!

mechadago submitter 1 Build 2 points 19 months ago

"Why wasn't this featured, I shake my head in shame"

I'm flattered that you think that! I'm happy with the feedback people have given me. This community seems to hold it's arms open to newcomers, and I love that! Thanks for stopping by :)

"Intel Inside" 乁(ಠ ͜つಠ)ㄏ Perfect sleeper build! Nice job man! 10/10 -IGN

mechadago submitter 1 Build 2 points 19 months ago

"Intel Inside"

Day 1: I've managed to blend in with the blue team.

Day 97: They still havn't noticed. I grow wary that they'll question my single core performance.

"10/10 -IGN" Tanks :)

I would hate to build in a case like that, but I can't criticize too much. I mean in the past I had to resort to collecting PCs put out for trash collection overnight in order to have a PC for schoolwork nearly 20 years ago and it was slim pickings then when I had zero money.

Seems you invested all your hard earned cash into the parts that mattered and cheaped out where you could to make things work. Great job on this.

brandoncyz 1 point 19 months ago

I'm probably not the first to say it. but the mere fact that your going full-blown sleeper build, with a case like that, and honestly some nice looking Cable management(i might be wrong(hopefully i am wrong) in a case like that. . . . Well that's just hella great man! also how is that R9 280x and ASRock Mobo working for ya?

DopeAF123 1 point 17 months ago

Bro I have the same computer, errr case. do all those parts really fit in there? Floppy drive and everything still on it lol

Slade84 1 Build 1 point 16 months ago

Should have kept the consoles and figures.

Enjoy the puter.
