Description

Having issues getting the Sapphire drivers to play nice with sgminer and cgminer on Ubuntu. Drivers recognize cards but the sgminer doesn't see them. Back to work.

Update: Moving up to Ubuntu 13.04 - WTB COMPATIBILITY! Going to dual boot eventually so I can keep my gamer friends happy in the fact I'm using it for other tasks than hashing.

You sir are causing the inflated prices of AMD cards.

true that!

I'll take some of the blame but I can't take it for the big boys. I'm just a small fish in the hashing pool. (see what I did there - punpwnage)

There are exactly 3 builds with 4-Way Crossfire on PCPP.

Also this is the most expensive non-modular psu.

Will do the job nicely! Be sure to keep your room heavily ventilated or set up some auxhillary fans to cool the setup (No matter how ghetto you need to be :P)

What cryptocurrency are you mining?

  • 2 points

Going to try a number of Scrypt coins. I'm heavy into Bitcoin as well but that armsrace is getting pretty crazy.

sgminer is for litecoin so I would think that.

Or any scrypt coin, like dogecoin or worldcoin.

Are those cards staying relatively cool?

  • 1 point

um...a single card is designed to run at 95C all the time under load, so 4 of them would be running far from "cool"

You sir.. have used the hottest (figuratively and literally) R9 290x on the market to mine coins. You might need to put that thing in a freezer (in a figurative sense) cause that will be constantly running on 90c when you are mining.

Thank you and thank you? Yeah it's going to either make me some cash or go up in glorious ball of flame. Both of which are acceptable end states.

Can something like this actually have a payoff? I am super noob on the issue of mining. So seriously can it ever payoff?

Love the time you took into your build, I +1 you for that, but people that do this "hashing" stuff is why no gamers can get there hands on 280x/290/290x :( Still happy mining!

K. Awsome build. I personally recommend moving to a 6100 and a H110M ECO from MSI. you can keep the RAM tho. Love it!

What was the end price?

+1 for Ubuntu :3. But seriously, you could have gotten a few 290's with aftermarket heatsinks (Dual-X,DCUII,etc) to get the same performance and cooler temps.
