Storm Trooper is a X99 universal work station. A work in progress, that is still in progress. The GPU will determine the final configuration. Waiting on those new cards to drop... (Excluding the potential of new cards, the P4000 seems to be a good fit. We will see after the new cards are released. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAVqIOITdmM )
As a technophile who works in the tech industry, choosing most of the hardware was easy. There combination of new, used, trades, and old parts in this build. As such some parts are on a soon as possible upgrade path. CPU->2678W(V3orV4) | GPU->Undetermined until new cards drop(probably P4000) | HDD->two are old with low capacities. I backed away from doing my first custom water loop in this rig. Primarily because of storage. This left an unused radiator installed.
The build. This is the standard black and white build. I decided not to go with an all Black or all white case. Instead I removed the metal frame and a local shop power coated it white. RGB fans left white, static... I should have bought the standard case and saved some money. I am not a fan of the push button RGB fans. Thermal Take used older RGB fans versus newer RGB fans. No software control. I took a 3 slot HDD cage from my gaming build. The extra cage increased my 3.5 HDD slot capacity to 7. There is also space for 2 2.5 SSD behind the motherboard.
Part Update. The motherboard used is actually Asus Deluxe II. PCP does not recognize the compatibly of the Asus Deluxe II with 2400 ECC memory or maybe the Xeon +ECC memory. I verified compatibility in a build using Deluxe 3.1 for a friend. I even mismatched ECC memory with I7-5820k. No issues with the latest BIOS installed. Obviously the ECC functionality will not work with the I7. I also used a E5-26XX with no issues with ECC or regular memory. You will need to be familiar with the Asus BIOS flashback utility. You can flash the BIOS without CPU or memory installed.
2/15/19 RGB options added.
C'mon its a Samsung Pro. Its fast!
Beautiful case. Do not get the RBG version. If you want RGB fans, buy the newer software controlled fans separately . If you want to maximize HDD capacity, you will need an additional HDD cage. The all side ventilation does prevent controlled airflow.
Corsair ML fans are the best fans you can buy. Expensive.
Awesome fans leaps and bound beyond previous version. Sadly was unable to sync with Asus Aura because motherboard only has 12v RGB connector.
If you need a decent budget 4K monitor then you are good to go for the price. You are not going to get perfect gamma balance
