Description

This build was a blast to do and many Thanks to Intel for the opportunity to showcase it live on demo with them at PAX SOUTH!

I really wanted something that would pop out in a dimly lit area and showcase the looks of the build. The ek UV blue coolant is just purely beautiful and when lit with light it really pops! With Intel in mind I went for a nickel/silver and blue look. The Gigabyte Z170 Gaming G1 motherboard is one of my favorites to use but the bright red/white just wouldn't work for this. After considering other options I just decided to risk it all and paint it. I chose silver to match with the blocks and the outrageous number of fittings Ill be using. All in all I'd say the paint job came out decent, it was better the first time but I tried getting fancy and adding blue... needless to say I was up all night fixing my mistake.

I love the way the loop turned out in this build. Originally I didn't plan on water-cooling the memory, but it just made the loop look much cleaner and I had a spare block so why not? I will also say having the 2x45 fittings saved my life with certain bends for this. Really great fittings to have if your not exactly 100% sure how your run is going to go, as they rotate and allow some bends. The SLI 980Ti's are running amazing and will be playing Just Cause 3 at the show.

All in all it was a blast and for having a last minute deadline ( only 2 days to build and ship!) its one of my favorites.

Thank you all and please visit aion-pc.com to customize your own!

Sleeved cables?

  • 1 point

EVGA makes Sleeved Cables for their PSU's. CableMod also has Sleeved Cables for a few brands. There are a couple other places also.

  • 1 point

If I'm not wrong, you don't buy the sleeved cables directly from CableMod, right? It sends you to another link?

  • 2 points

Correct.

http://www.performance-pcs.com/brand--cablemod/cable-type--psu-replacement-set/

that is the link. I and others I know have ordered from performance-pcs and the shipping was fast and easy. If you order Sleeved Cables make sure to order Combs. Combs are weak and brittle so order 2x as many as you need. Their cheap so its worth it. Sleeved cables can look bad if you don't do good with cable management and Combs make a build look SOOO much better IMO. Check out my 6600k build if you want for an example of what I'm talking about.

AION uses EVGA sleeved cables If I'm not mistaken. You can order those from Newegg, Amazon etc. The EVGA cables are what I used. Not sure if the Cablemods sleeved cables are better or not but I'm very happy with the EVGA sleeved cables. CableMods does have more color choices if you want red/black etc. they are the better option.

AION... You always impress me. The quality of your builds has always been oustanding! An inspirational vibe is given off by all of your builds! Keep up the good work!

One question though... Can customers ever request "hardline" tubing as an option for their builds?

Thanks a bunch,

RyRy ;)

  • 1 point

I do hardline in most of my showbuilds I have more than 2 days with. The only thing that worries me with hardline is shipping... I have literally seen companies throw a computer into my dock. If its for another PCPP member I can do it no prob

Thanks man I truly appreciate that.

That build is sick! Not really anything to pick out other than a personal opinion ( I don't like the corsair AF series for radiators) otherwise its a beast. I love that motherboard too!

  • 1 point

what would you choose as fans for the radiators ? id like to know your thoughts. :)

  • 1 point

I personally would go with EK Vardar F5's on that, if you want flashy the Riings by thermal take still provide solid airflow and statc pressure. My opinion may be biased though so dont take it as fact lol

  • 1 point

haha could you give me unbiased opinions , it would be greatly appreciated. :)

  • 1 point

ok, if you want to use corsair I recommenced the SP fans for radiators. AF fans are great case fans as AF stands for airflow and they run at higher speeds. SP fans are for static pressure or the push of air through an object in this case the radiator. EK Vardars, Corsair SP, and Riing fans are both engineered for static pressure.

Hi, just wondering because I'm thinking of basically using this build apart from replacing the 980TI's with a 1080; is there anything that wouldn't be needed from the list if going from 2 video cards to 1?

  • 1 point

No, nothing additional is needed. You would just not purchase the terminal block and additional gpu block/backplate

  • 1 point

would you say that two 980ti's are better or just one 1080 because I'm still not certain

  • 1 point

No, one card is always better than two for real world tasks. SLI support is still shaky in game and what not.

  • 1 point

Regarding this whole thing, do you still have a shop where I can configure a whole pc
