Description

This is my first attempt at building a PC, so go easy.

I mainly just play WOW, but will hopefully be getting into a few other games now that it's finished. Parts were purchased over a period of time, some were gifted.

Given this is all a bit new to me, I'd love some feedback. I don't really know how to how/where to find the CPU temps, or give an idea of overall performance. If any can suggest tests i should run to get a sense of performance I'd really appreciate it.

All I know for sure is that my frame rate in WOW has gone from 20~30fps on low settings, up to 180~200fps on high settings. (Around 70~80 on Ultra), which is a great change when raiding.

A big thank you to all those who post on this website. Before I began my build I had spent hours reading and reviewing other builds. It was all a big help.

Thanks!

That's a really great build! Anything with custom cables and LED fans is something most people don't do in their first build, and it's awesome that you got it done on this budget! Cable management looks great as well. Only thing you may have gone a little overkill on was the PSU, you could have gone for something with a lower-wattage and still had room to upgrade your CPU to something overclockable.

I didn't expect to see such high framerates from the i3 and 1050 Ti, so you should be set for a long time before you need an upgrade! If I could suggest one, you might want to spring for a small SSD for use as a boot drive, which will speed up your boot times and basic system processes by numbers that'll make usability a lot better for you.

Temps can usually be found somewhere in your BIOS. Performance tests could be something like FireStrike or Geekbench.

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Hi Vox! Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciated. I'll check out Firestrike/geekbench and see how it goes. I got a large PSU because originally when I started the build I had been offered a pair of cards to crossfire, but that fell through! Better to have too much than not enough i guess!

Tymen 1 point 22 months ago

You can't overclock with a 150B motherboard right? So if you want to overclock you have to change the motherboard to a Z170 for example http://pcpartpicker.com/product/8rvZxr/asus-z170-pro-gamingaura-atx-lga1151-motherboard-z170-pro-gamingaura

VoxBarbarian 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Yes, you would need to change to a Z170 chipset.

This is a great looking build. My favorite color is orange, but when it comes to computers I like red and black schemes. That being said, this is one of the nicest color coordinated builds I've seen in a while (without being ridiculously expensive). Most builds that look nice are thousands of dollars because of RGB everything or custom parts. Kudos to you!

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 2 points 23 months ago

Hi Sgoyette! Thanks for the comment! I'd seen a lot of Red/Black builds and was set on something a little different. I like orange too, and I'm really pleased with the overall look of the build. :)

Bangatoid 2 points 23 months ago

I love your LED fans and your cable management! Also, do you like the performance of your Motherboard? I just wanted to know, since I was going to build a PC with the Motherboard, and I want the best possible performance.

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Hi Bangatoid, the Mobo has been fine. Im not really sure how to give you performance data, but I've been playing Wow and Overwatch and its been smooth with great frame rates. the price of the mother board is great too.

Bangatoid 1 point 22 months ago

Thank you for responding with speed (unlike myself, at this point). Thank you, and I am going with that as my Motherboard! Thank you.

xx4rthurxx1 2 points 23 months ago

you just change the sticker of the cpu cooler or you changed it?

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 23 months ago

Hi 4rthur! Stock intel cooler (until i can budget an aftermarket). I took one of the Thermaltake stickers and put it over the top of the intel. Helps with the color scheme :)

Thanks Dab!

BlueDanStorm 1 point 24 months ago

That cable management is p*rn, for me. Holy ****. To check my temps, i use HWMonitor. This simple program will give you everything you need in a few clicks: minimal, medium and maximal temps. You can just leave it open while raiding, and check it after some time. Otherwise, you can use Msi Afterburner to show your build's status on screen while playing.

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Hey BlueDan! Thanks heaps for the feedback. Ill sus HWMonitor and see how it handles a few raids. Appreciate the feedback bud.

That much for a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti? Yikes.

Solemnsong 1 point 24 months ago

Cable management like a pro on the first go! Lol. And nice my favorite Color is orange, so thanks for the color scheme being nice to look at!!

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Thanks Solemn, i love the colour too!

Jäßßäwöçkëë 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Ok so after jumping into the building scene myself several months ago and trolling this site daily. I must say you did an awesome job on your first build! The color coordination is on point and parts selection is ideal for an intro budget build. The only things I would suggest would be adding at least a 240GB SSD and maybe another sleeved LED cable so you can better hide it along the edges. Other then that you made a very balanced gaming rig and props to you.

Side Note Try out some Overwatch on that beast!

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

Hi Jabba, Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it! The LCDs are better hidden with the case cover on, I've thrown up a couple for pics to show this. Thanks!

grumbleB 3 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

This is such a lovely build, really nice colours and spec for the price! :)

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 2 points 24 months ago

ThanksGrumble, Im really happy with how it turned out .

For a first time build that looks darn good. +1

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Cheers Singular, appreciate it.

SpearsZ 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

great build! what cpu fan is that?

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Hi SpearsZ, Thanks for the comment. The cpu fan is the stock Intel straight outa the box! Obviously the blue lable didnt quite go with my scheme so i carfully peeled a lable off one of the thermaltake fans to cover it. Came off perfect! Thanks.

SpearsZ 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Nice! thank you

Gooberdad 10 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

You did great. I especially like the custom Thermaltake cpu cooler ;)

Thumbs up.

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Hahaha thanks Gooberdad! The Blue label was driving me mad!

shreduhsoreus 7 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

The only thing I can suggest is adding a 128 or 256 GB SSD as your main drive and for a few games. This will make your system much snappier when you're using it as a desktop and in games you'll see much shorter loading screens.

Really good job, it looks amazing. 1050 Ti is a pretty good card for the price.

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Cheers Shred! Thanks for the feedback. Ill look into grabbing an Ssd for sure!

NuMaKa 1 point 24 months ago

Great color scheme! Buy another cooler, man.

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 24 months ago

Hi NuMaKa! Thanks for the comment! Budget was pushed to get it to here, but defintely something ill look to add in the future. Thanks!

ichigoose 1 point 23 months ago

do you play overwatch? if you do how many frames do you get on 1440p?

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Hey Bud. I've just started playing Overwatch since building the rig. I have it cranked up to Epic Settings and it runs around 115fps. From time to time i see it shoot up to 150/160, but normally sitting around the 110/120 mark.

Tymen 1 point 22 months ago

Great build! You can download CAM from NZXT, with that you can see the temperature of your CPU and GPU, the rpm of your fans, the load of the CPU and GPU. And you can set a fps marker with a lot of settings in your screen.

Tymen 1 point 22 months ago

Why 750W PSU?

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Hey Tymen! Thanks for the feedback and CAM recommendation. Ill check it out. The PSU is a bit overkill because when i started to buy parts a friend offered me 2 cards to crossfire. Unfortunately that fell through, and i have been left with alot of overhead lol.

Tymen 1 point 22 months ago

Ohh that's why! No problem!

isaih1aguirre 1 point 19 months ago

hey ik im four months late but where did you get the stickers?

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

Hey Isaih, are you talking about the Orange Thermaltake sticker for the CPU cooler? I just carefully pried it off one of the LED fans. Came off fairly easily. Much better than the stock blue Intel sticker!

isaih1aguirre 1 point 18 months ago

Smart. Thanks!

sokrey 1 Build 1 point 19 months ago

omg this is a great build +1

Paintshaker88 submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

Nice looking computer. I am also building an orange themed pc and was checking them out for frame of reference. Very professional build.
