Description

This is my Home Cinema and PC/Server/ gear. The first few pic show new projector and setup. The rest are just random pics of the gear in use HTPC, old server being built and new shogun server.

UPDATED GEAR "2017-2018" - Sony VLP HW45ES 3d Projector - New pics show old Epson and New Sony Size, Sony with kitchen, two torch lamps, and reading light on (still a great picture) then lights off. Also install PICS. - Moved EVGA 980ti to HTPC - Harmony Elite with Google home connected Hub -

All of the work was done myself while the house was being built. The last two pictures show the current theater, actually I prefer “Cinema” to dedicated theaters as more family can view, and it’s more realistic of how people view movies with family and friends. Dedicated theaters are usually smallish and seat about 8 people. Home cinemas can cater to a much larger group being setup and designed in a living room type environment.

  • Network Drop detail- Single RJ11 Over RG45 Home ran to wiring closet – Two per room

  • Structured Wiring Detail – Main A/V wall – 3” conduit shown 3rd from right.

  • Audio Drops Banana Plug Detail – Dual Subs Via Splitter Off Yamaha Receiver.

  • Projector Mount Detail – 3” conduit with HDMI/Component cable runs. Universal Chief Mount lag bolted into ceiling joist.

RF Controlled Hunter Douglas Silhouette blackout shades and RF light Controls – Screen mounted with one and one half inch clearance to Fire place mantle. Screen drops down in front of TV and fire place. When running screen fire place turns off automatically with Lutron controllers (Family pics blacked out per my wife.)

Cinema with ambient lighting from Kitchen - Ceiling fan flush mounted and RF controlled. Speakers Lft RT towers, center channel and subwoofer, all connected via 12AWG oxygen free audio cables with banana plug terminations. (No Ceiling mounted speakers.)

-The rest of the PICS just random gear for the Cinema The Unraid server is not listed as I will be using most of those parts for a major server upgrade. Look for that post soon.

{Update - Posted New Server} - Shogun 50TB Unraid Server v.2 = Dual Xeon E5- 2670, 128GB ram, 50TB Storage ....... more.

The HTPC runs 24/7 as there are some services on it that the server cannot run. You can use the remote or the xbox controls to work the Kodi front end. This is great when people come over and want to play games. It's a kiosk game system. Scroll through the games, find one you want to play, it fires up minimizing kodi via script then once finished it maximizes kodi again. Very smooth easy operation all with the xbox controller.

For movie nights I can also control the system with my Ipad for even more "ooh" factor. Generally speaking though I don't really use much of the capabilities of the system. It's overkill for a stand alone HTPC. A chrome box can do everything this does save play the games. But I don't really play much on it when I have NOiR! upstairs. LOL

I use the DVDO iScan Duo audio video processor as my audio video hub. There is only a single optical toslink cable connected to my receiver from the DVDO iScan Duo for HD audio sound. I’m a firm believer that ‘audio’ receivers are meant to play audio, not scale/process video and or act as a matrix A/V switch. That's the video processors job.

All content players are connected to the DVDO via a single HDMI cable to one of the eight inputs on the rear of the DVDO processor. The processor then outputs dual HDMI (HDMI outputs on rear x2) to the projector and TV. I have the priority of the DVDO output for the projector set high.

The HTPC from the listed PC parts pushes Kodi with Emby plug in. I do not have any local media it is all on the old unraid box. There are a few pics of that build in there. I have modules for movies, aviation, tv, kids, game kiosk, weather random videos, music and more. For those that know my other build post, NOiR!, that beast was what I built to replace this older sandy bridge gamer. I moved it into the silverstone case and shoved it in the TV stand which replaced a much older HTPC and became the current Server guts in the pics.

I hope you enjoyed my short theater gear snapshot. I have been promised a dedicated “man room” in our next house. This current cinema gear will remain family room based and I'll buy new gear for the dedicated room. Any new gear will surly be added to this document.

Cheers!!

Hello all, I updated the post with pics of the HD-HTPC in more detail. Also note the SSD change, Heck the case was open so.... why not. Now an Samsung EVO 840 250GB. Cloned the OS so I hope it fires back up when I put it back in the rack after posting. In case your wondering, I back up all my PC's in ISO format on the server. I just pulled the ISO and dumped it on the new drive using Macrium Reflect, expand boom done. About 15min.

It's no problem, it was getting pretty dusty in there. It's a good balance of cost and power. Not hardcore rated anymore but enough to have fun with games, and enough to push the limits of Kodi skins and plugins.
