Description

I use the box mainly for work, and casual gaming. I'm just getting around to adding this build here, but I actually completed it a while ago. The case front panel buttons and ports was defective out of the box. However NZXT got me a new panel with very little hassle. Great support from those guys. Budget of around $1k. Wanted something that would have a solid future for upgrades so I went with Intel Skylake Z170 mobo. Skimped on the CPU planning on upgrading later because I wanted to get the most power I could in the GPU without breaking my budget. The i3 has been an amazing CPU. Handles everything I throw at it including Star Citizen. I OC it to 4.3 Ghz using the unofficial bios from ASRock. Ran great. I run the ram OC slightly as well. The Zalman copper fin CPU cooler works amazing and keeps the OC CPU cool without needed a liquid cooler.

How did you overclock it???

base clock overclock via older bios or unlocked bios updates...not available now as intel released updates to block it you can luckily find some that are not updated or some that have been produced with the unlock.

is it worth the hassle???

Not really. It was fun and maybe gave it a boost running some bench tests, but today I run it stock and I'm good with that.

if you have good temps and need the extra 2-3 fps to match the higher models such as the i3 7350k.

my goodness that cooler is ugly. but, i guess what i say about car culture (and a lot of people say about car culture) applies here: to each their own.

That Zalman cooler isn't the prettiest but one of the best cpu coolers for the price

Yeah I hadn't built a PC in a long while. Used laptops for many years.
