Description

This is my fourth build; Fell in love with the NZXT Manta the moment I saw it, and bought two for my build and my wife's. This belongs to the latter.

For some reason, the country I live in (Singapore) has a slightly revised version of the NZXT Manta. The 2.5" drives slide out towards the front of the case rather than towards the back, and there are cutouts for where the USB port of the NZXT Hue+ would be. I couldn't find any information on this revised version online, and was very pleasantly surprised to see this. There's a NZXT Hue+ in my own build, which should get posted soon, once I tidy it up.

This damned Gigabyte ITX board has it's internal USB3.0 header wayyyy too close to the CPU socket: (a) it's hard to cable manage the USB cable without ugliness and (b) I broke one of the USB3.0 pins when installing the CPU Cooler. Thankfully, it still works (at USB3 speed too) and I have no idea how or why. Other than that, though, the board has pretty decent I/O and features, and hasn't caused any problems. Will see how it fares when I get down to OC'ing.

I got her some Cablemod extensions and WideBeam strips to finish off the build... No regrets. Also, a couple of cable clips and fan filters from moddiy really helped to tidy up. Could use a little more work with the cable management but I was getting lazy (and running out of cable ties).

I'll be glad to answer any questions anyone might have about building in this case/with these parts. Enjoy!

Are you kidding me? Have you seen your own build?!

That's a lot coming from you, thanks :)

Doesn't mean one can't appreciate other's impressive builds. Kudos how you made everything fit together design wise in a compact space (desk and case). You should also upload and share the Manta's bigger twin.

PS: where in Singapore you think one can get best deals for pc parts? I had to buy my mobo and cpu at Sim Lim earlier this year since Amazon wouldn't ship these internationally and I don't have them yet in my country. I still felt they were quite expensive at Sim Lim though...

Thanks! That other build will have to wait for my maglev fans to arrive (from Amazon, coincidentally).

Where are you at? I'll PM you regarding where to get parts.

Ooo... those maglev fans sure are scrumptious... Looking forward to your upcoming build

Great choice of parts, cable management and looks! Here, take my upvote! Also gj with finding a white mechanical keyboard...

Btw your GPU in the list is wrong, you are using windforce not the reference design.

Edited, thanks a lot! :)

And yeah tell me about it! I got lucky with the keyboard. Not THAT lucky though, the keyboard went on a 50% clearance sale at local stores here after I bought it. Sigh.

Awesome setup and build! +1 for that Manta and Hue+! Im looking into buying that monitor (U2913WM) for my own build paired with an R9 Fury for $200, should I pull the trigger? How does it fare in gaming?

Thanks!

For the display, it depends on what you're upgrading from. My wife came from a laptop's 15" screen and hence she found a world of difference whether she's watching shows or gaming. I, however, come from a Dell U3415w, and when I game on her rig, I can feel the difference. Not by much though.

This display is considered an entry point to ultrawide monitors, and is known for good value. If you really do wanna venture into UW, get it! The alternatives are the AOC and LG entry-level ones, but IIRC, their monitor stands are not as good.

It's 60Hz btw. If you come from the 100+ territory, you might feel that it's not sufficient!

Don't forget that there's a new one out: Dell u2917w http://www.dell.com/ed/business/p/dell-u2917w-monitor/pd

about the SSD mounts. I watched Hardware Canucks review the case, and they encounter a problem with the case having the SSDs slide to the rear (the Hue unit doesn't fit) and he says that NZXT has acknowledge and was working on a fix. Video Here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7D-sPfveVQ

Very Nice built BTW, wanting to do something similar with a 1080Ti card. How are your GPU temps in the case?

  • 1 point

Hey, yup. Check out my other build on a black Manta for more details on that. I wrote about it in the second paragraph there!

Thank you! We get about 72c on load when the ambient temp is about 27-29c. It's a little better once the air-conditioning is switched on. Singapore is a hot little country :)

Seriously consider a watercooled/hybrid card! The temps for those are amazing!

Thanks for the reply. I am in North Carolina, so not quite Singapore temps. I did end up going with a Hybrid 1080Ti and am happy I did.

Hi, where have you bought your custom extension cables?

  • 1 point

Hello, I was wondering which type of cables you have bought from CableMod? I also have a NZXT Manta case and I want to be sure that I can make the tight corners that the cables have to make in this case.

Hey, sorry for missing your earlier comment!

My order details below. I found that it's a tad too tight. You might want to have some measuring tape around your components (or have a piece of measured string, or something). Definitely be conservative, the bends took more length than I thought!

No problem! Thank you for your reply.

What do you mean with 'Your cables'? The cables that you've used?

That was copy-pasted from the order text. Pay no attention to it.

Why didn't you get the 1070 or the 1080? It seems like an appropriate choice

  • 3 points

I did, but err... It... It's on my own build. Lol. The 980ti was a hand-me-down from my previous builld. Also, I wanted to test the temp differences between the H7 that's used here and a Corsair H115i in my own build, so I decided to pay a little more for a 6700K instead of the 6600K (which would've been more than enough for the wife).

This may sound stupid but your wife is a gamer right?

  • 1 point

Haha. Yes, mainly FPS, but she's been out of touch ever since the kid. I'm trying to get her back with Overwatch.

  • 1 point

Oh lol but a 980ti for that not saying it's bad just saying a 970 would have been just fine lol

  • 1 point

Ahhh, yeah a little overkill. A: I already own it, so no damage done, and B: 1440p can be quite demanding.

Oh ya nice

Does your wife game? Cuz if she doesnt, no point of getting her the 980ti. 750ti should be good enough..
