Description

Hey PCPP Fam, I have a YouTube Channel now. Here, I will eventually make an in-depth video of this PC. Thanks!!

OK, so this is my MAIN build.... phew

This build has quite a long story behind it, as It originally started out as my first machine in April of 2013, But... the only thing that I still have in the system from then is the 3TB Caviar Green.... Can you believe I used that as my boot drive for 2 Years! Yeah, either can I... My hair is finally starting to grow back from that...(There was much hair tearing during the 900 Minute Boot-up...Figuratively speaking). But now I am running the Oh-So Powerful X99 Chipset...Quite the upgrade from the measly old Z97...Chuckle... But anyways, everything in the build works the way it should, although I am starting to get bottle-necked with the GPU Slightly, and I am debating whether to get another 970 for an SLI Config/ a GTX 1070/or a RX 480...(YOUR OPINION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!)

Let's Get Riiiiiighhhhtt Into The Build

i7-5820K

So this CPU has treated me very nicely, I have it at a slight OC using the OC Genie in the MSI Motherboard BIOS, so it sits around 3.76GHz... I don't really feel the need to OC it further...maybe in the future sometime...

X99A SLI KRAIT EDITION

Yes... I am fully aware that the Motherboard has SLI in its name... I am a High-school Student with a ~Shot~ job...cut me some slack! But anyways, I love the Krait series of Motherboards. I had the Z97 Edition and then the Z170 version for a build that I sold, and now I have the Big Papa ;)... I got it for $180 off of /r/HardwareSwap and I couldn't be happier! Support for 128GB of RAM! SLI Support! RAID Support! But sadly, there are a couple of things that I don't like about this board....WHERES THE DANG CPU TEMP MONITOR!!! Most X99 Boards of this price range have something Equivalent to that... But I mean I have the Corsair Link to do that for me...Just a bit disappointing that It's not there... The same with USB 3.1... But, It's a Very Solid board and I highly Recommend it!

Corsair H80i V2

I originally bought a H110i GTX, but alas, it was DOA and the store I bought it from only had a massive pile of H80i V2s', so I said screw it and went with this...It keeps the CPU Nice and cool, both at idle and under full load...I still would've liked the 240mm...<3

32GB Corsair Vengance LPX @2666MHz

So, again, this is all the store local to me had so I bought it for ~$50 for both kits, a pretty good deal if I do say so myself. Coming from DDR3 RAM, I don't really see much of a difference in performance and every day tasks, but I'm sure one day I will.

Samsung 850-EVO 250GB

I have to say that this has to be one of the fastest SSDs' that I've ever used/seen. I also took the liberty to cover the top of it in White CF so It would go more with the build. I do plan on snagging up another and throw it in a RAID 0 config.

EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0

Amazing card, if it weren't for the RAM issue. 3.5 gigs of the 4gb of VRAM on this card runs at full speed, whilst the other .5gb runs at a significantly slower speed. If games have to use that .5gb reserve, performance drops drastically. Still one hell of a card for the price, considering it can run every game I've thrown at it on 1080p, using ultra presets. Although I do plan an Upgrade soon!

NZXT H440 White/Black

I really love everything about this case...Everything I like to see in a High-End Case...Best ATX Mid Tower out there. No question about it.

Power Supply

Fully modular, gold certified.. what's not to like? A bit more wattage than I needed, but found at a really good price. And the Custom Cables fit right in!!

I will write some more tomorrow! Screw Finals Week haha

Personally, I'm biased towards AMD as they have done less shifty things than Nvidia recently. But honestly it just depends on what you're looking to use it for. Both chipsets have native H.265 encode/decode support for recording, but shadowplay is a way more matured program than raptr. I use a GTX 980 personally and have no complaints. You could just use OBS and take the CPU hit, it's not like you're lacking in CPU power. EDIT: Also, OC that sumbitch to 4GHz, you're using freakin' water cooling.

One word of warning! I think the 5820K Only has 24 PCI-e lanes, so if you were to go crossfire they would be at x8 instead of x16, not a major limitation but it would definitely cap your number of PCI devices. Plus, multi GPU support is garbage at the moment. Maybe DX12 will change that, but for now it's a much better idea to just buy one big GPU as opposed to 2 small ones. I think you should wait for AMD's high end Vega to release in october (assuming you can wait that long to upgrade XD) and see how it stacks up against the 1080 before you make a decision. It's always better to wait, as (hopefully) the retail price of the 1080 will drop in response to competition from AMD.

Thank You for your MASSIVE response, I definately will probably wait to see how DX12 is... You get a +1 for taking the time to respond ;DD

  • 1 point

Lol thanks, also the 1070 is about as fast as a 980Ti, but if you can get a 970 for cheap it might be a better option.

Cant say anything about the 480, since no benchmarks have been released, but its supposed to be a good 1080p card according to the specs.

  • 1 point

Yeah, as I've said on all of the other comments, I will be doing quite a bit of research to find the best deal for what I do.

I was originally going to get the Z97 version of the board (didn't because I'm cheap) but now after seeing this...I wouldn't of done it justice ;-; +1 for goals

  • 1 point

Thank you <3, If you check on eBay, there are quite a few (Thats where I sold my Z97 Version) going for $100-$80-ish last time I checked...But I would scour /r/HardwareSwap as It is a much more reliable place. Thanks for the +1 ;)

You could always XFire Rx480's it would be cheaper and faster than a single 1080 provided the game supports XFire, in fact2 480s are cheaper than 1 1070 if it is the FE which is $449 and Rx 480 is $200. Its sort of a no brainer

  • 1 point

Yeah, I understand that, It all boils down to my personal preference of team red or team green...I'll have to make the choice soon enough D:

  • 1 point

Well the 480 and 1070 aren't the same, so it depends how much performance you're looking for. :)

Great build and clean setup!

  • 1 point

Yes, definitely. It's just a huge decision for me haha. I'll probably do it after all the hype is up and the cards start to drop a little bit. Thanks ;)

+1 I'm gonna take a guess that you like MSI's krait lineup.

  • 1 point

Just a lot ;) Thanks for the +1

  • 1 point

About the gpu, I think that the 970s and the 480 would both be bottleneck. I recommend the Rx 490, so that your high-end cup won't be bottlenecked. The 480 is only $200. In fact, if you have the money, wait for the 490x to be released and compare it to the 1080. Due to amd's 14 nm, it will likely be better.

  • 2 points

I'll probably do that, I'm hoping AMD will stick with their price trend and only charge ~$350-ish and totally dominate the GTX 1070. I'm not a team red fan, but If it means better performance at a lower cost, I might just need to try it!

  • 1 point

Team red rocks on the low end, and in 2017 q2, they'll dominate on the high end too.

How'd ya get the Krait logo on the front of the case and the backplate-type thing on the graphics card (did it come with the m/b?) However you got it, nice build mate +1

(and then the xbox controller...............)

  • 1 point

No, I custom ordered it from some guy that custom makes vinyl stickers. The Xbox controller was a gift from family.... I ordered the patch cable with it and my friends play on The Geezer with the controller while I use the m/kb route ;)

  • 1 point

looks great!

  • 1 point

Two questions, first what cables did you use. Is it a cable set or extenders. And also did you make or buy the back plate on your 970. Love the build, mine is very similar and that's why I'm asking. +1

  • 1 point

In the pictures, it is a cable extension set, but now that I have a fully modular PSU, I am ordering some Pure White Cable Mod cables. I bought the Backplate from V1 Tech, very cool guys and I received it within the week :). Thanks for the +1 ;)

I truly approve of this build~! It is powerful, well balanced, and takes advantage of the best performing equipment without unnecessarily increasing the scaling of the price. I'm not sure I would change anything regarding performance...

Personally, I think this could be nicely reproduced in a Micro-ITX build with 2x32GB sticks, and see some money saved on the case and PSU. I'm also a 'fan' of silent running rigs, so I'd maybe go with low Db. case fans. (I'm scared of water cooling, haha)

Otherwise this is pretty much the build I would make for the price~! Respect~!

  • 1 point

Thank you for taking your time to comment, I was also thinking about getting this converted over to ITX, but X99 ITX Boards are near IMPOSSIBLE to find! But for case fans, I have recently been thinking about the EK Vardar Series, and sometime down the road doing a water-cooling build.

  • 1 point

My feelings are that water and electricity don't mix. Radiators make noise too~! Good air cooling can be quiet and just as good as liquid. Usually cheaper too, and you can do custom fan curves to manage when the noise comes on.

I agree... ITX X99 mobos are NEAR impossible to find... but here is your mobo:

http://pcpartpicker.com/product/k8KhP6/asrock-motherboard-x99eitxac

+$9 more expensive than the one you have ;)

I like it how you put food in the parts list :p, nice work very clean build!

Is the monitor good for PC? I am thinking about buying it and I want to use it for both PC and console.

  • 1 point

I particularly hate this monitor a lot. -HUGE BEZEL -Control Buttons are on the Side -Color isn't the best -No DisplayPort Input

But If you will only be wanting a single monitor for the life of this one? And if you arent doing Photoshop and Visual Art work? Go Ahead, It should suit you just fine!

  • 1 point

what would you recommend if I were to do Photoshop/art design because I i make videos and I have to add edited photos.

  • 1 point

What's your budget?

But if you're just doing thumbnails and like channel banners and such for yourself, it shouldn't be a big deal.

I would recommend This as it is a similar price to the BenQ, but if you have a higher Budget ($400+), I would go with This

Hope I helped!
