Description

This is my first build ever and I'm so happy for what possibilities it holds for the future. I use this PC for editing, music production, and mainly (competitive) gaming. I've had no issue whatsoever with it so far, except the BIOS boots up really slow before flash, and Ryzen memory issues before flash, too. I am not an overclocker type of guy, so the processor is running at stock 3.2 GHz, and I managed to get the RAM speeds up to 2667. This runs all of the games I play great, even for running a 970. The only real issue I've had that I cant help, is that the 970 has some coil whine, but I did get it for free off a friend lol.

Part Reviews

CPU

Works great, is amazing for multitasking and handles gaming amazingly. The stock cooler is nerve-racking to install for a first time builder, but no need to deduct a star for that.

Thermal Compound

First-time builders like me, do not apply too much. It is a nightmare. Other than that, it is great.

Motherboard

What can I say, looks great, and does its job. Haven't tried overclocking on it, and don't plan on it either. Memory initially could only run at 2133, but the latest BIOS update fixed that issue for me. Deducting a star because boot times are pretty slow. The latest BIOS update helped with the boot time, but it is still significantly slow.

Memory

RAM is RAM. Works great and looks great.

Storage

No problems with it so far. Gives me a lot of room for activities. ;)

Video Card

Works fantastic, but has a significant amount of coil whine, every now and then. Looks great, too. It is VERY big, but that's not an issue for me. Stays cool and quiet, besides the coil whine.

Case

Beautiful case. Air flow is great, and the case allows for easy cable management, even for a first-time builder. The two case fans that come with it are really quiet, too. I love the PSU shroud. All-in-all a wonderful case.

Power Supply

Supplies enough juice for a 4 year old child that wants to know if you have any games on your phone. Jokes aside, a great looking and performing power supply. The colored wires inside the mesh are not noticeable at all.

Case Fan

Great fans. Not much all to say. The lights on these are beautiful, too. Screwing them in for a first-time builder was difficult, but that was only because I didn't realize the screws cut the plastic as they get screwed in. Not worth deducting a star for. :)

Monitor

A great looking monitor. 144 fps is on an entire other level compared to 60 fps. However, the menu is kind of hard to work through, and the color settings are all weird. I suggest leaving it on the default settings and setting the temperature of the color to cool. Great for mounting on a wall, if that's your thing.

Keyboard

A great sleek looking and feeling keyboard. It is EXTREMELY difficult to type in a dark setting, therefore I suggest getting a backlit, whether it be chroma or not. Personally, if I would have saved up more, I would have gone with a regular green backlit. The gaming mode is essential for competitive gamers. Deducting a point for no dedicated macro keys.

Mouse

This is the best mouse on the market, period. I've had bad experiences with rival mice, and the chroma is just the best feeling mouse too. I especially like it, because it fits my large hands for a 6'2 person.

Sweet dude, I thought it would be too big for my custom desk when I first bought it, lol

How slow are the boot times? Just ballpark..

Nice build btw. The salt lamp won me over tbh.

LemonLiqa submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

It's honestly not that slow, I haven't timed it, and it seems to get better with more BIOS updates. If I had to take a guess, around 15-25 secs maximum

Oh ok. Cheers.

If you want faster boot times get an SSD.

LemonLiqa submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

I have an SSD, and the OS is on it.

Gavin227 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

Upgrading from a mechanical drive to an SSD for your game storage would help with the load times though. Especially if you used an NVME drive I believe your board has an m.2 slot.

Just FYI, I wouldn't hold the "slow boot times" against the motherboard - it's because you have your OS on a HD. If you want it to be quicker, get a SSD and install Windows on that.

my OS is on my SSD, that's in the build...

hey would the msi x370 sli plus resist 3200mhz without a problem?

LemonLiqa submitter 1 Build 1 point 6 months ago

With recent BIOS updates, RAM seems pretty stable.
