Build

Monochrome v1.

by migs_xD

Description

Featured Build!

Short story.

Had to return 2 parts in this build that was faulty, and the GPU came from overseas and the shipping was delayed tremendously because of some issues on the couriers.Massive shout out to my girlfriend for driving out to stores to pick up some of the hardware. All and all took me around a month to do the whole online hardware and research gathering thing and 2 weeks to build and set everything up.

other than that I'm quite proud and happy to introduce to you guys my project.

Tower / stand *I honestly dont know how to describe this case/chassis thermaltake p3

  • i5 Skylake Intel Processor 6600K
  • FTW EVGA GTX 1070 ACX 3.0 ( newegg has stock in these for dirt cheap 100-150 cheaper than AU retailers )
  • Corsair Vengeance 3000mhz 32gb 4x8
  • ASUS Z170 - AR
  • Corsair H100i v2 - Push pull config - Corsair Magnetic Levitation fans
  • EVGA 750W 80+ G2
  • Intel 540 m2 SSD for windows boot drive.
  • Ikea fake plant.

Attached benchmarks are all core clocks. I honestly just finished building this today and I haven't had time to tweak clocks.

Planning to do a full custom hard tube water cooling on this machine in the future. ( when I have the funds obviously ) comment and give us some tips for what brands / Parts I should have my eyes on for this. Im also on twitter and If your really wanna help out holla. @ _migssss

Thank you!

PureBlackFire 1 Build 3 points 31 months ago

excellent component choice. the only thing that could have added a bit more would have been getting an RMi psu, but still, great job. this is the kind of build you show someone thinking about the P3.

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 2 points 31 months ago

Cheers man, I hesitated quite abit on the p-3 and almost tried to exchange it back to my previous pc's case ( corsair 400c ) after seeing other peoples build using it and the builds on the thermaltake website seemed so over the top. But im glad this ended up looking great.

Your right in regards to the RMI psu, wouldve fit more of the aesthetics. but Ive always used EVGA psu's and I took a personal safe approach.

I am currently buying parts and am still debating between the i7 6700 and the i5 6600k. plz let me know im neutral atm

rhali8 2 Builds 2 points 31 months ago

Are you gaming? If you are, the 6600K is perfectly fine. You won't really see a noticeable performance increase in the majority of games since they are generally more GPU inclined.

If you're rendering/video editing/using 3D software, I'd recommend the 6700. Hope this helps :)

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

I cant really help you out here, as Ive never had an i7 and my previous build was an AMD 8350 4.6 ghz ( which is honestly such a great cpu ) I would have gotten it for this build if there were nicer motherboards for AM3+.

However here is my experience with the 6600k I tried to use the very easy overclock utility that came with the motherboard ( which is essentially a switch on the motherboard) and it boosted up to 4.4 on the 6600k which I think is already overkill. Running stable and cool thanks to the h100i v2.

I then tried working on very complex 1000+ layer files that are around 800mb+ in size in photoshop and the work flow is fluid, no lag, rendering and stuff is smooth.

Based on my research for this build. If you end up getting the 6700 ensure that you find a mother board that supports overclocking non K intel processors. So my 2 cents is get the 6700 if you got the extra coin. Or spend that coin on other hardware upgrades like a bigger ssd, or a better cpu cooler since the 6600k is a great cpu already.

let me know how your build goes and good luck.

Snikpoh 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

I say 6600k if gaming is your main concern. I have a 6700k and I mostly game but I wanted the versatility of available hyperthreading that the 6700k brings to the table. If you have the dough to burn, grab the 6700k as it will be useful in a multitude of applications (multiple window browsing and application usage, video editing/rendering, as well as gaming). If you're on any sort of budget, grab the 6600K.

xianaru 1 point 31 months ago

If you're trying to budget, go with the 6500k as the only major difference is the hyperthreading which is only beneficial in rendering applications and that you'll need Z170 motherboard.

rhali8 2 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

This is a freaking awesome build. Absolutely love the case, but my by far favorite part of the PC is your graphics card. It glows :3

Awesome work bud! +1 :D

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Its RGB too, Apparently you can add effects to it using geforce software

rhali8 2 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

<_<

Welp I know what GPU I'm getting for my next build XD :D

ballisticism 1 Build 1 point 31 months ago

Did you buy your gpu through the american or aussie newegg? What price did you pay for it? (with taxes + shipping etc.)

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

american newegg. its cheaper now. down to 570 aud i think. but i got it for 606 + 66 AUD shipping.

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

oh and no taxes. its under 1k

ballisticism 1 Build 2 points 31 months ago

Cheers, thanks for the tipoff! (oh, and +1)

Splatterlord 1 point 31 months ago

The case encloses the parts. The case encloses the parts. 1, 2, 3. 1, 2, 3. Wash your hands, neat and clean, make the dirt go away. 1, 2, 3. 1, 2, 3. Neat and clean. The case encloses the parts. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Dont worry Spplatterlord I have 2 boxes of Compressed Air Cans ready. spray clean this baby everyday. I also have a humidifier in my room which also has great filtered ventilation

voaz 2 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Great build! I also have consired to do such build with the FTW card by EVGA, I've gotten my 1080 FTW yesterday. A question, the white led on the card is in real life more of a blue right? My card does that and alot of RGB leds too.

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Correct, its not a pure white. :9 however. if you turn the brightness down a bit, (similar brightness to the corsair ml fans, since they're brightness depends on the level of the RPM and I never have them on full blast since i got fans behind the radiator that are pulling.) I get similar if not the same 'white' for both fan led and gpu. THE RAM HOWEVER! IS bright white! no blue tint its full on and has light effects which represents the ram usage which is absolutely awesome!

jelly over the 1080! show us it when you've put it in your new/current build!

voaz 2 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Ah thanks! I will adjust the brightness and I will see if it looks better. I also have white led ram by the way and those are indeed very bright and white. I have just made a new build for my upgraded PC. Please don't give me crap about the CPU cooler and/or the picture quality currently.

Logical_Motion 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

+1 very nicely done its a shame there's no decent way to route the corsair coolers USB cable huh? Even I have a corsair H100i v2 but not using it yet. I'm really interested in those corsair ML fans. With an open case like that how is the sound?

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 2 points 31 months ago

yeah dude i had the same problem with my previous build, same cooler. its like. Where do I even route this thing, *tries 10 ways. and they all look gross haha. What makes it annoying is how its the cord is on the side. they should just do it so that it drops down completely atleast.

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 2 points 31 months ago

oh and the fans are great, even on full speed. half the sound of sp and af 120's on full which is based on my personal experience. My old build had a tonne of af and sp 120's

tamnhucanh 2 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Nice build man! +1. Definitely one of my favorite builds

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

thanks !!!!

PCBEGINNERR 1 point 31 months ago

i must admit this that case is sexy af but the amount of dust your getting weekly is gonna be thicker than bob marleys hair

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 2 points 31 months ago

already stated above. I've got a humidifier and great filtration in my room / house. and I also have 2 boxes of compressed air ready, Like who wouldn't wanna spray clean this system on the daily?

Lyrix 1 point 31 months ago

nice build!

Leon1228 1 Build 1 point 31 months ago

Use bitspower fitting and ek blocks, fans and radiators. That's the best you can get for watercooling

Poozle01 2 Builds 2 points 31 months ago

I agree. This is what I have. I will be redoing my custom loop in about 5-14 days when parts arrive.

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Its gonna be my first time doing custom water cooling. Is it really that hard to do hard tubing? Im quite crafty, and I "make" things for a living. so I can really concentrate and execute tedious things.

Leon1228 1 Build 1 point 31 months ago

if you do it, buy way more of the tube you think you´re gonna need, so you can do every bend a few times until you´re happy, because it isn´t easy. but i haven´t done it yet, so i don´t really know.

Poozle01 2 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

It is not hard, BUT saying that, it does take a few extra tubes the first time to get used to the bends and way the tubes work. It also takes an eye for color to make the tubing fill out the case well. If you have a Girlfriend or wife who is good at color coordinating, Please invite her to help you.

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

gonna do my research on those brands right now!

Leon1228 1 Build 1 point 31 months ago

and for tubing i recommend primochill - i first used mastercleer and it became cloudy after a month. i then bought the primochill tubes and after a year or so they still look new.

xianaru 1 point 31 months ago

Got the same motherboard. Despite a few missing ports, it's still amazing! Woop awesome build! +1

Awesome pictures btw!

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Oh my. I was so surprised. the old mobo on my previous build had SO MANY PORTS. But I dont use that much USB devices anyway. 4 ports at the back is plenty for me. 2 for mouse and keyboard and another one for my external hard drive dock. and 4 ports in the front for charging my phone etc. so Im happy. Great features on the mobo and it looks great!

and thanks used my sneaky dslr

PigWithAMustache 2 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

I can't wait to see the overclock you get with that cooler, and when you custom water cool lol. Also, congrats on featured!!

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Will keep you updated, I may have time this weekend to do the overclock set up and testing!

PigWithAMustache 2 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Good luck!!

Hellkitty 1 point 31 months ago

Nice build!!! -^ It is pretty pricey for my taste tho.

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Made some money selling my previous build which i built less than 2 months ago. So I was fortunate enough to splurge.

Hellkitty 1 point 31 months ago

What was the previous build?

RickWilson 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Congrats on the feature - well deserved!

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Thanks!!!

Gooberdad 10 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Great looking pc.

Thumbs up.

Poozle01 2 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

I reccomend Bitspower and ekwb. I am redoing my watercooling build soon in phanteks TG

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

the phanteks waterblock for the 1070 and 1080's look really good. let me know how you go.

Poozle01 2 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

I already have my block from a previous computer build for my 980ti, but I do agree on the phanteks blocks looking good. I use EKWB blocks for the most part. However, PLEASE do not do as I did and screw stuff in too tight. It will cause screws to destroy the threading and break the waterblock and not let you take GPU from block. They use Aluminum in a lot of blocks where the screws go for some reason...

garfieldguru565 1 point 31 months ago

Time out. Can we talk about that graphics card in the third picture? Deathstar anyone?

great build btw! Im liking the black/white themed builds more and more lately.

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

YES!!!!!! it does! and thank you!!

oneflygtiguy 5 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Super nice. I was going to get that thermaltake case but wasn't sure how the airflow was going to be for the board voltage regulators with no power fan moving air over them and that monster 9590 in it. I really like this build. Well deserved feature.

MafiatechTeam 1 point 31 months ago

nice build, personally id go with AN EKWB X/P360 water cooling kit, it comes with all the stuff you need for cpu custom loop (comes with soft tubing so bear that in mind) then you just find the the wb and backplate for your gpu and choose the fittings, they have a beta configurator

https://www.ekwb.com/custom-loop-configurator/

which should make life easier

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

dude that ekwb link is bomb. thanks so much.

MafiatechTeam 1 point 30 months ago

np man, glad to help

superswim22 1 point 31 months ago

ohmygaah. this is nice. gonna be attempting to build my first pc (last time had it built for me) any tips? suggestions for a first timer?

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

do tonnes of research and make sure you take your time in buying parts! if you rush, thats when things get complicated, based on personal experience. Let me know if you need any help.

How much is your budget and what are you planning to do with the pc?

superswim22 1 point 29 months ago

geez i havent logged in awhile. lol. im trying to build a new gaming pc. maybe with vr capabilites/ 4k. but im not sure. but i still really like that look of your pc.

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 29 months ago

depends on what you wanna play. competitive games like CS:GO, Overwatch, etc. 1440p is more than enough on 120+ frame rates. would also handle VR very very well. If your more into single player games like witcher, tomb raider etc. then go 4k. but good luck youll need a couple of 1080's to reach 60fps lol.

and thanks man.

pioco56 1 Build 1 point 31 months ago

...ikea fake plant... +1

ddaversa 1 point 31 months ago

Beautiful build, love it!

The4go10 1 point 31 months ago

That is beautiful!

new_kojak 1 point 31 months ago

How loud is the case when at full load?

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

not loud at all because of the ML fans. no bs. i just finished tweaking everything inc. fan curves.

new_kojak 1 point 30 months ago

Alright thanks i think i might use the case then

Vagiant 1 point 30 months ago

Marvelous! I swear to the old Gods and the new. This is just splendid! The simplicity reeks class. ARRGHH I want this so bad >_<. How much is a kidney these days?

Uh.. is there a way to save this or add it as a favorite so I can look at this when I'm lonely?

HardwareFoundry 1 point 30 months ago

Where did you buy the P3?

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

mwave!

montiago 1 Build 1 point 30 months ago

I really like that case!

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

Me too!

montiago 1 Build 1 point 30 months ago

Do you actually use it as a wall mount or does it sit on your desk?

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

Just on my desk! Im renting so Im not able to drill the walls. hehe

montiago 1 Build 1 point 30 months ago

Aw, that's a bummer! But yknow, L3p guy took two of the Core P5s and created a PC Desk out of it. Thought you might want to check it out

tmcoscar 1 Build 1 point 30 months ago

Curious: I notice this case often features builds with the GPU - like yours - in a unique position. Does the case some with the PCIe riser/extension required to do that? Does it happen by some other mechanic? Or did you buy that bit separately?

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 2 points 30 months ago

The case comes with a PCIE riser, like the ones you get in micro atx cases that have the gpu's displayed.,

tmcoscar 1 Build 1 point 30 months ago

Dope. Thanks for the reply. You're a champ!

will2135 1 point 30 months ago

why not a i7 6700k?

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 30 months ago

As much as it seemed like I had the money for a build I did not, and still had a budget.

Cazza_ 1 point 29 months ago

Is that monitor good?\ Nice build as well :D

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

Ive upgraded it to a 144hz 1440p. will post new build soon

Chiles3 1 point 28 months ago

Yo did you read about the FTW cards being faulty? I suggest looking in to it. I returned mine yesterday because of it

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

Yeah, I had them send out thermal pads. was a breeze to install no issues since.

BB2013 2 Builds 1 point 24 months ago

Gorgeous build and congrats on the featured build :) +1

Did you have any trouble with the Thermaltake riser cable?

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

not at all, does what it does and Thanks!

djbassel 1 point 24 months ago

Very beautiful. I have plans to build the same style. Monochromatic with silver. EVGA GTX 1080 SC with Thermaltake P3, but maybe with the MSI Titanium motherboard instead - or the ASUS ROG - it has some silver accents in it.

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 2 points 23 months ago

Definitely go with the titanium! and theres an updated version of the p3 that comes with tempered glass.

Also make sure u get tonnes of compressed air, youll be needing to dust it down at least once a week since its an open case!

djbassel 1 point 23 months ago

Thanks for the tip!

kingori 1 point 23 months ago

AMAZING BUILD !!!

1 Question Which cable did you use to connect the 1070 to the MOBO

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

the case came with a pcie riser. :) and thank you!

kingori 1 point 23 months ago

thanks,

one more question, with such an open case how do you avoid dust accumulating in the PC

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 23 months ago

plenty of compressed air. Ive upgraded my pc since then and now im running a NZXT elite Ive just posted it, canned air is expensive lol!.

eligantwraith 1 point 17 months ago

brilliant build with a great choice of colours. The only downer is that the case looks like my coffee table and I can't unsee it. +1

migs_xD submitter 3 Builds 1 point 31 months ago

Im glad people love it and are giving awesome support and feedback, There was so much stress that went into this rig, all the waiting, putting together and finding out that parts weren't working like the first h100i v2 i got, the pump did not work and it has to be sent for RA so I had to find another store that sold it and getting my girlfriend to drive an hour out to pick it up, because the original place i got it from did not have any more stock.. having DHL delay the graphics card delivery because something went wrong with the plane or something lol. I can say that all that was worth it! I'm glad that I'm not the only person that appreciates this system!
