This server was made of mostly spare parts from my original PC that I had laying around. After getting the 8320e and motherboard for Christmas, I had everything I'd need to have 2 seperate PCs. All I had to do was buy some RAM and now I have a dedicated server for Minecraft and possibly other stuff in the future.
It runs Lubuntu 16.10 (if pic 22 doesn't make it obvious enough), which is very lightweight (only uses 400MB of RAM at idle) and just works. I just got it running today after spending the night running DBAN on the HDD because some partitions wouldn't go away.
Typical CPU usage is around 2% most of the time, even while the 2 servers are running. However, RAM usage stays at 1942MB when they're running. Unfortunately the RAM was the absolute cheapest I could find anywhere.... not a great deal at all considering a few months ago you could get 8GB for the same price. Oh well, it's enough.
From my main PC description:
The A10 will now handle the Minecraft server that I run for a small group of PCPP users (and their friends) on its own. Having that job moved to a seperate PC takes a nice load off of my main PC and will allow me to shut down/restart my PC and allow people to continue playing on the server. Perfect.
This CPU won't be an issue for running the Minecraft servers. It works and it works well.
It's an alright board that will keep the servers running for a long time.
I completely forgot I had used the same RAM for my first build. But still, very basic stuff and it works.
This is the most risky thing I'm doing with this PC, as it has bad sectors. Hopefully more don't show up soon.
Very nice case that I've enjoyed working in from the start.
It works, and I had this already. I have no reason to buy a new one until this eventually gives up.
