So I first built this PC around summer 2016. Back then, I was fourteen, and it was my very first PC, with an FX 6300 and an RX 480. Weird combination, I know, and you'll notice that I still have a card that should never have been paired with my cpu... This whole thing was done on a budget that was a little bit strange, as I was not only saving for this but a school trip to Borneo that has cost me £4000. No rich parents, I've worked my *** off for this bad boy.
ORIGINAL PC:
CPU: FX 6300 @ 4.5GHz
COOLER: HYPER 212 EVO
MOBO: MSI 970 GAMING
RAM: 1x8Gb HYPERX FURY
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1tb
GPU: SAPPHIRE RX 480 4Gb
CASE: CiT Goblin
PSU: Corsair CS450M
OS: Windows 10 Pro
MONITOR: Hannspree HE225DPB 1080p
I sold my graphics card for £310, which was pretty good considering I got it for £200. I pre ordered a GTX 1060, but after months of amazon not stocking any I cancelled it and bought a GTX 980 XTREME instead for £230. I then used some of the left over money for a new power supply, just an EVGA 600W builder one and the rest of that money went to my school trip.
The swap to Ryzen came after I had been desperate for a new CPU for ages, and I couldn't find any FX 8350 cpus at a good price. I then picked up a Ryzen 1300x that had been used for a month for just £70, and I sold my FX 6300 for £50ish. My ram and mobo were given to my younger brother, and I picked up a B350 motherboard and some ram for around £160 in total. Very steep because of ram prices, but nothing I can do about that.
I got my case and some phanteks halos and light strips for christmas, which meant I have now changed every component in the tower except for my hard drive. I need to get an SSD soon as well, but I spotted a refurbished H100i for £35 that I took a risk on and it's worked amazingly so far. Temperatures have dropped loads from the stock cooler and it's allowed me to bump the CPU up to 4.0GHz. So, as of 15/02/18, this is my build:
CPU: Ryzen 3 1300X @ 4.0GHz
COOLER: Corsair H100i
MOBO: MSI B350 PC MATE
RAM: 2x4Gb Patriot Viper @ 2667MHz
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1tb
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 980 4GB XTREME
CASE: Phanteks P300 TG
PSU: EVGA 600W
OS: Windows 10 Pro
MONITOR: Hannspree HE225DPB 1080p
Thanks for taking the time to read, also apologies for the bad picture quality
Excellent budget CPU, picked mine up for much less than the 1200. Clocked at 4.0GHz on 1.4v and running perfectly.
Very basic, but it gets the job done and looks good as well. BIOS is fine and relatively easy to work with and overclock.
Look good in the case, overclocked to 2667MHz with no problem. Also runs fine with Ryzen
Runs fast and quite cool, and the lighting options are stunning, despite having to use a separate software to control them...
Fantastic budget case that looks beautiful. Can't recommend enough.
It's a 600W psu. It works. Cables are a little ugly but at the end of the day it does the job it's meant to.
