Description

So I haven't built a computer in a while. Since the GTX 580 was the best card. So, it was finally time for me to get on up to speed and get this done. I actually had almost no problems with this build. I had to RMA my first set of RAM because I couldn't boot into installing windows from USB. I ran a MemTest and I came back with 150+ errors in the like 2nd pass. I got the new set of RAM in. Same problem. I RMA'd the motherboard. Got the replacement and, what do ya know, same problem. I finally RMA the CPU. Replaced what I had and success!

I wanted to go with an all or mostly white build. So hot right now. I feel like I achieved my goals and more with this build. This has been an almost strictly gaming machine. Games and the spattering of making memes and gifs, haha. I had no intent of getting into VR... but I have a Rift on the way to give that a go. Up next for my build are getting SSD covers so that area is a little cleaner. Will probably find a used 1080 Ti to upgrade to over the summer, too, since it seems like the 11xx series is going to be a bit away. I'm also going to ship my CPU off to Silicon Lottery get get it delidded. Going to also be replacing my ages old OCZ Vertex 3 (I paid $270 for 120 GB back then!) soon as well. Probably going to go with another M.2 NVME.

I have two in right now, the other two are on the way :x I jumped the gun on the parts list and/or the picture, but I'll update the picture with them in when they get here today! :)

Also, appreciate the kind words about the build!

Great looking build!

You've got the patience of a saint waiting for all these RMA's and this troubleshooting.

Yeah, it was super frustrating, especially since doing a fresh build and custom loop in about 24 hours (with leak testing) on my first build went with exactly zero hitches, haha. First build was perfect from the get-go. This one not so much, but super happy with how it turned out!

The RMA'ing wasn't quite so bad thanks to Amazon. They did cross-ship replacements for me and 1 day shipping. It was still frustrating because all of my troubleshooting was staggered, but I'd always get a replacement the next day until it worked!

Great build, how long did it take you start to finish?

Of actual building, about an hour and a half?

If you include all the RMAs/trouble shooting, like 4 days =/

How is your 1070 Ti handling the 1440p 144hz? My guess is around 100fps mid settings, is that about right?

For Fortnite I'm on all Epic (the highest) settings except Shadows/Post Processing are off/lowest setting. I'm at a consistent 200-210 FPS and I only dip to around 170-180 FPS when I'm in the 50v50 mode and everyone is just spam building.

Vampyr, I'm on the highest settings on everything with 160 FPS. Haven't tried Witcher 3 yet.

That's pretty amazing, my 1070 gets a solid 150 fps but no higher on 1080p high in overwatch and 1080p epic in fortnite but for the Ti model to be able to do better on 1440p is crazy. I only have 8gb of single channel 2400mhz ram on a ryzen 5 1600 though so I think that's probably the bottleneck there.

Yeah, unfortunately Ryzen gets bottlenecked from RAM from what I hear, which is why I went with the 8700K. The 1070Ti has been a great mid-tier card. I'm very very impressed, even though it's pretty much just an underclocked 1080. I got a great deal on the 1070 Ti, though so I'm not going to complain! The FTW2 cooling system has been stellar as well!
