Haven’t built a machine in a long time so this was a big one for me. After moving into my first house, the next thing I needed to sort was my personal rig!
Will be used for gaming (1440p/100Hz/Freesync), and hobbyist production workloads, nothing serious but enough for me to convince myself that the 3950x was worthwhile.
Used the P400A as the case for this one because I knew I’d be air cooling and with all the praise it got from GamersNexus I had to see what the fuss was about. Picked up the white model to match the decor of the room it will sit in but replaced all three front intake fans with Noctua A12x25. The case sits slightly angled on the desk so the tan/brown colour scheme isn’t seen.
Illuminating the case is a pair of £9 LED strips I purchased off Amazon. These are magnetic and sit on the inside of the front and back panels.
Really happy with how this turned out, only thing I need to fix is the cable management for the front intake fans, I don’t like how they cut horizontally across the case the the motherboard fan headers. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know!
Happy to answer any questions on any of the included parts.
Fantastic cooler, I personally feel like the installation process is one of the easier vs other large air coolers. Whisper quiet and keeps my 3950x nice and cool.
Beautiful board, haven’t had any issues so far. MSI BIOS is admittedly not quite on par with ROG that I’ve used previously but it’s perfectly usable.
Originally had some stability issues with XMP with this kit. However it’s now running at advertised speeds.
Fantastic little drive, using this exclusively for boot drive. Boot times have never been quicker.
I don’t need Gen 4 but picked this up to see if I could notice a difference. I can’t, but CrystalDiskMark can and read/write speeds are significantly higher than my gen 3 drive.
Card is absolutely beautiful, just the right amount of ‘bling’ but otherwise very understated. Temps and noise levels have been excellent.
Case was a joy to work in and the airflow through the front panel is outstanding. Whilst the cooler clearance is supposedly 160mm this fits the Dark Rock Pro 4 easily.
Completely unnecessary for my build but has been flawless, only issue is the length, which can hinder case choice.
