I will get to that question about the hybrid cooling scheme but first, here's TwoDeafTones, my latest build. Let me take you through the build process -
- CPU selection - I had the 4790k with me for about a year now and I decided to build the system around it to be used primarily for gaming
- GPU selection - Yes, it's not Pascal but the 980Ti (in 2x SLI) and 4790k combination is a really powerful one
- Overall goal - make the cleanest system I can
With that being said let me talk about the case a bit. It's a Corsair 750D which I really like apart from a few things. Since the overall goal was to build a very clean system I decided to add a midplate and psu cover to the case. These are available from Coldzero. This makes the case a little more presentable because you can really hide a lot of tangled cable under the midplate.
I used that place to hide the SSD cage as well. I don't like the SSD caddies in the 750D primarily because with them it is quite hard to manage cables cleanly. So I decided to use a quad SSD mount from a Caselabs S3 which neatly hides under the midplate. You can see these in one of the pictures.
Now, how about that cooling Yeah, so why on earth did I not water cool the CPU but did so with the GPUs? Frankly because of lack of space. With the midplates installed the front of the 750D was not usable anymore to put a 240 radiator. So I had to choose between liquid cooling the 980Ti cards or the CPU. Also I have used the Dark Rock line from be quiet! before and I was very pleased with them. They are solid coolers and very silent as well.
After that I sleeved some extensions with MDPC-X sleeves keeping with the overall color scheme but again did not like the way the cabling looked. I have for quite some time wanted to use the cable combs from HexGear and this gave me a perfect chance to do so. So I ordered the 2-slot comb and in the end I am pleased how this looks.
All the fans (there are 6) are powered by headers on the motherboard - so no fan controller. In the end I added some Darkside LEDs and that's about it.
