INTRO

okay so I sort of started this whole I am going to build a computer thing out of a sense of revenge. When my X left he took the best computer we had and the PS3 leaving nothing for the boys to play on. When I saw the prices to buy a decent gaming PC I was like CRAP! Then a friend of mine I work with with whose also a gamer told me he built his and it was not that hard.

Enter PCPARTPICKER and everyone on here, y'all are awesome special thanks to Yutang, who answered my xtra stupid questions so nicely. So this started as a gaming system but I also have been looking at job postings in my area for what I do. I am a data strategist and do a lot of heavy BIG DATA analysis for work. I really need to add to my UNIX/HADOOP skill set, etc.. So the machine needed to support both. and here it is.

CHALLENGES

couple things I did not realize until I started to put this all together. The case I bought I love but it does have just one 5 1/4 slot to add things on. Since I took that up with a CDROM drive I cannot really have anything fancy like a temp/fan control.

Second the GPU is so fast! but it only has one HDMI out and I want to run two monitors that have HDMI input so I have to buy a DVI to HDMI cable. I should of paid better attention to that, was a dumb mistake.

Third the power requirement the PCPARTPICKER shows did not turn out to be what I needed. It told me I needed a PSU of at least 360 watts so I bought a 450 watt unit. When I unboxed everything the GPU and the MOB both said they recommended a PSU no smaller then 500 watts. So I had to buy another PSU before I could build this.

Shout out to OUTLET PC, the windows CD I got was scratched so bad that my drive could not install from it. Took one call to get them to send me a new one.

LIKES

My boys love the glass sided case and the WINDFORCE light up. Way in your face factor for the X.

We have been playing WOW at top speed now and not once have we had any framing problems or overheating and I am using the stock heat-sink that came with the I5. I am not overclocking but at this point cannot see why it would be needed.

I have both Windows 10 and UBUNTU installed and both boot so fast I do not have to time to go warm my coffee like I used to waiting on the old machine to boot up.

I'm pretty sure you can play WoW at top speed on a 10 year old laptop ;)

Not running the lowest settings at 720p either. But it all depends on the guts in the pc.

Nice build! +1

For over the top CPU power I probably would have bought a Xeon E3-1231 but that's just me...
