Description

This build has improved over time and has greatly increased my gaming experience forever. Before i get all technical id like to thanks linustechtips for supplying me with knowledge, this is my first build and everything went according to plan noting is wrong with it (other than the fact that i mistakenly used a dishrag to clean my window scratching it to bits). Also The reason the PC is turned backwards is #1...why would i face the window twards the wall and #2 Its easyer to reach plugs. But the desk is turned away from the wall you say...well i have a TV that i like to watch netflix on while i casual game...so if it were against the wall i wouldnt be able to see my TV and anyone who walks into the room would be able to see what im doing.

Got to love the processor its cheap and reliable it will run pretty much anything a gamer would need and there's no use in getting an i7 (my opinion). As for the cooler its been really go so far haven't had any issues with it other than the fact that it doesn't have a refill plug and idk if you even have to refill it, ive come to think its m,mineral oil instead of water (which is good).

The MOBO is great i love it like crazy (and yes i know the hero 8 is out and i bought this one because it matched my theme which isn't silver and red). No issues other than the fact that it has very little amount of usbs (im a perf-o-holic) but was easily fixed by a usb card. And on the other hand the drivers were a pain because there are no instructions, and the disc doesn't contain the right drivers.

I do have to say this ram is downright my favorite DDR3 ram! I literally cant max it out and its very fast on the other hand it looks super sexy 10/10.

The reason i went with a GTX 960 is because who really needs 970 and up and i still haven't found a game that would put this thing on its knees. It stays at a good temp while in game (30C) and idle is a breeze.

The case is down right amazing. It was a dream working in it and im still finding surprises. But it has issues unscrewing the front panel window because when you plug it back in the screws don't align right and you have to use some elbow grease but id still rate my 9/10.

Power supply is great 10/10 no issues (really who writes a paragraph about their power supply)

nice build 1+ just a question tho, if you could have gotten red leds over white leds, would you have done it? i have a similar build (except its just black and green) and i dont know if green leds or white leds would look better

I'd say red interior with white LEDs. Red LEDs are kinda yucky. Just my opinion

Green is a really hard build to do because there are very limited parts that are black and green....id suggest Red/Black, Blue/black, Silver/Black

black and green are my favorite colours and my pc is already built, jsut deciding on leds XD lol

White is meant to light up the inside so you can see detail....ATM i have red leds coming to give some hues when the lights are off

I really doubt the GPU stays at 30C while gaming what are ambient temps

  • 1 point

Meant 40 but thats currently it used to run at 30...i recently had an issue with the cooling and it went up 10C

Nvm thought yu said CPU....GPU stays at idle (30C) CPU at idle is 32C GPU under load is 40-50 Depends sometimes and the CPU temp under load never really goes above 50C (have to love corsair)

Nice parts you have here, so good work there.

The reason i went with a GTX 960 is because who really needs 970 and up and i still haven't found a game that would put this thing on its knees. It stays at a good temp while in game (30C) and idle is a breeze.

This is where my eyebrow raised. I see 30° C in under load. You mentioned you play Netflix and casually play a game. What exactly do you play? If you don't mind explaining a tad more here. Usually a 2012 game between the modern games, is going to increase the temps these days. Unless it isn't graphical demanding then there may be some 30~40s possibilities.

Anyways, nice build and thanks for sharing.

I agree. How is his card compared to the R9 290? Because he said he hasn't found anything that brings the GPU to its knees while I have found a lot for my R9 290. Wonder what games is he playing.

I only watch netflix while i casual but ive played Metal Gear Solid 5 Full graphics along with AC Unity and it has never been above 30 (For all the people who are surprised about my cooling i keep the fans running 100% and there are over 7 Fans in this Machine....of course it will stay below 30)

You played MGS5 on maxed out graphics, while maintaining 30c on your card alongside Netflix? Hell, playing MGS5 on maxed settings is already enough when saying you keep your card under 30c.

Ha, no. Case fans don't usually have an effect on GPU cooling unless in an area where air restriction is tight. So 7 case fans might have a 1-2c effect on the GPU.

Ramping your fans to 100% also will not bring temps down to 30c. That's not the way it works, bud.

I have a Fury X, that is a premium water cooled GPU. I've tested a variety of games including MGS5 and my maximum temps were 51c. This is on a 1080p display. I used to have a PCS+ R9 290 that would stay around 34c on idle load.

So to suggest that your GPU on load stays near 30c is ridiculous. And the way you say, "Of course it will stay below 30" makes it sound like you think that you have a basic understanding of any of this when sadly, you do not.

Download Afterburner, play MGS5 for 10 minutes, close the game, record the logs. Then come back and give us results.

Right, and I see... forgive me for being skeptical about your temps when running your games. I find it hard to believe. Though the idea of having all fans being ran at 100% the whole time, sounds like a possibility but I'm not quite convinced either.

Either way, thank your for your responses and clarifications. Enjoy your new rig! I'm certain that you are. :)

Oh? Well I cannot be too overcritical on such a thing. However, everyone has different experiences I think. Plus we all learn something one way or another. Unless one isn't learning anymore... then shucks.

  • I only speak out of experiences myself, but it does not mean I'm the brightest lady when it comes to computers either. I love building computers. I try to understand the situation, and sometimes my two cents might come out. I try my best to not be discouraging or ill-inform unless I didn't know something then my bad. And it is OK to disagree but no need for us to be in a quarrel. I prefer friendly conversations with those moments. :)

Either way, thank your for your responses and clarifications. Enjoy your new rig! I'm certain that you are. :)

I meant to say thank you. I'm sorry for my typos, hehe. Anyways, thank you and enjoy.

.... You're not very smart are you? You called your build the 'Red' machine. And Thuggin said that ur first pics were of Razer products, which are recognized to be green. You could've got a different mouse and keypad. Based on your other comment and this k, you seem like kind of a ****.

Hey! Great build! Are you using windows 10? Just wondering how it is for gaming, as I have been considering the upgrade for a while!

  • 2 points

Don't. Stick with Windows 7 until updates run out in 2020.

  • 1 point

Really? Is it that bad?

  • 2 points

I've read 10 has lots of extra charges for what should be free features.

  • 0 points

No...def, get it....the reason people think its bad is because they dont update their drivers for the graphics card and the OS tries to find a driver but it can because there is none.

  • 1 point

And charges to free features...basically its just wanting you to pay for solitaire

hey,

i really like the build. as a noob liquid cooler kind of scare me, is it really needed? if not what can you replace it with?

  • 1 point

Ive never installed my own heatsink but i would say def do liquid...thing is the one im using doesn't need to be filled EVER and its mineral oil so if it pops and spills it wont harm anything + temps are downright awesome....have to love corsair.
