Description

My second PC. Applying all that I learned from my first build(Fan leds suck, microATX is not a good choice for SLI)

Most of the parts were taken from my last build. This was mostly to move away from MicroATX, which just wasn't cutting it for SLI. Cards were too close together and they blocked all other slots. So new case and ATX motherboard.

Moved from a Corsair 350D to a NZXT S340. The case is great, so simplistic and clean. I wish they would take this same design, up the price a bit and make some small changes. Like making the front panel easier to take off. Feels like you're going to break it every time you remove it.

Runs everything I have thrown at it at 60FPS/1440p so far.

+1 fantastic aesthetics, no doubt one of the best looking builds that I've seen on the site. Thank you for sharing!

Love everything about this build, colors, cooler choice/orientation, overall baddassery. The cable sleeving is fantastic, awesome color, did you do it yourself? +1

  • 4 points

The cables are actually just extensions from BitFenix. I am probably going to get the full set of sleeved cables from EVGA soon, though. As it will help clean up the back of the case a bit.

Cooler Master Geminii M4. Swapped the fan with a Corsair one

I noticed you have 4 fans installed. 2 x front, 2 x rear and 1 x on cooler.

Are they all 140mm or 120 mm fans? And how easy was it to replace the stock Cooler Master Geminii M4 fan with the Corsair one?

Just a quick question, what is the name of the keyboard and mouse mat you are using?

Many thanks, Joseph

Mouse is Logitech G502

Keyboard is CM Storm QuickFire TK. Want to get a Corsair K70 RGB, but can't find one with blue of brown switches.

Nice looking PC there. I have a few questions though - if/when DX12 enables SLI/CrossFire to combine the VRAM of both GPU's... how many GB of VRAM will this PC be able to use effectively? And for a GPU total of $810.00... would it have been a good idea to just get one of those cards that have 8GB VRAM? Also... is that kinda GPU horsepower needed to operate a single monitor at that resolution/refresh rate? Sorry if I'm asking such noob questions... I'm kinda new to pc building, I don't know much about Intel or NVidia, all I know is that it's good stuff and you get what you pay for.

  • 1 point

If DX12 makes that possible then I guess it would have 8GB, but 1GB of that would be at a different speed. Not that informed on it, though.

970s in SLI is better than almost any single card that is currently out. At least according to every benchmark I have seen. Benchmarks show them holding their own against the TitanX for a lot less.

Yes, I would say to run new games at 1440/60 you would need that much GPU power.

  • 1 point

Gorgeous build! it's so clean. Love the cabling too. +1!

  • 1 point

Those cards are SO DAMN LONG!

Nice one man. I am currently in a 350D and was considering getting myself in a position to SLI at some point in the future but I really cant see how I can fit 2x 970s comfortably in there without baking the hell out of them. I will likely go a similar route as you and just upgrade to a nice MoBo and ATX-Mid when the time comes.

I, however, will likely not spend $240 on said MoBo... I was thinking more one of the MSI-Gaming editions for like $130 :P

Edit: Dont you think a 750W is a tad light for SLI G1s? I realize you arent overclocking your CPU but those GPUs do draw more power than the 175W they are rated each (close to 225 IIRC).

Hiya! I just bought this cooler and I want to change the stock fan with Corsair SP120 LED. If you don't mind please explain how you change the fan and how you connect the fan with heatsink?

Please update your comment. Thanks

  • 1 point

The fan just clips to the heatsink. Just unclip the stock fan and use the clips to attach the Corsair fan. It's very easy.

  • 1 point

Thanks a lot. And one more thing please. Is this cooler compatible if I installed all 4 Rams? I seen the YouTube video and the guy mentioned about some pipe issue. And when I checked other builds here with same cooler, I can see it would be okay to install the 4 rams with this cooler. Please...

  • 1 point

It depends on the how tall the ram is. If it's the type with a large heat sink on it, it may be an issue. The kind I have (Kingston HyperX Fury) can fit in all 4 slots. The CPU heatsink can be mounted in any direction. So make sure you have it in a way that the ram can still fit.

how does one get he blue power cables from the PSU?

  • 3 points

The ones I have are extensions from BitFenix. Some manufacturers also sell colored cables for some of their PSUs. I know Corsair and EVGA do

  • 1 point

Thanks! Gonna look into it.

  • 1 point

Ok so question then. Are the cables cross compatible? As in corsair cables work with evga for example? Looking them up and the bundles are kinda steep.

  • 1 point

That I don't know. I know the BitFenix extensions will work with any PSU. though.

What fans are those? I'm using the same case and doing a blue/black theme. Also did you just put blue Led strips in there? Looks sick!

U have blue rgb in there. Is that included in the case or is that a strip. If it is a strip, which one?

  • -1 points

You called it Monolith, but it still doesn't have enough vram to play Shadow of Mordor with ultra textures. (uses around 5.)

  • 1 point

Well then, it's a good thing that the Ultra texture pack for SoM is hard to recognize even when side by side with High textures. Also, you only need that vram to run the Ultra pack at 4K. Works fine with 970s and 1440p.
