Once upon a time, in the desert land of Forniacali, lived two boys full of wonder and sunshine. The two boys loved to play games together and for a time they also worked together in a shop among the clouds, high above the mountains, that made cyber-universe games.
Sadly, a storm had been brewing at the horizon for some time. One day a great evil wizard named Ceo came and struck the two boys down from the clouds, condemning them to live among the downtrodden populace of their homeland.
Times were rough, and the boys had to live by their wits, surviving day by day. It was a bleak and dark time for the young boys, but they would not give up hope. Eventually, after some hardship, one of the boys started working in another shop among the clouds while the other made a living nobly minding the village's younglings.
Happier times followed and, while their piggy banks were still wracked, they missed their time together in the cyber-universes. Determined, the two boys set out to real cyber-space in the quest to build a new hocus-pocus neural ganglion machine able to simulate cyber-universes for adventure.
Some time later, after delving deep into the darker side of real cyber-space, they emerged victorious. I bring thee the results of their trials and tribulations.
Hello everyone, a friend and I used to work together, got laid off, went through a rough financial patch, and finally got employed again.
While still on a tight(ish) budget we wanted to get my friend a gaming PC so that we could play together. We were going for performance/price but also wanted to build something that looked cool so he could show it off and enjoy it. Here's the tricky part: for a couple months I followed a sub-reddit where they sell PC hardware. Some of it used, other brand new but no longer wanted.
Note: the card in the build is an EVGA GTX 670 FTW edition! I could not find it in the parts lists so I had to pick a generic GTX 670.
For this build I got the following deals:
- CPU+Mobo+Video Card = $400.
- CPU and mobo were actually brand new in sealed boxes!
- The GPU was used for about three weeks.
- PSU+H80i+120GBSSD = $170.23. The odd price came from adding shipping costs and a bit of haggling. =)
- Everything was brand new in sealed boxes!
- The HDD was brand new, never used.
- The NZXT Hue was used but in perfect condition.
- I got a cheap Win 8.1 Pro license key through work.
- I bought the Disc Drive and the Case from Fry's Electronics.
All prices are final and include shipping+taxes where applicable. I think we did pretty well and this rig packs quite a punch for its price point. Sure, a nice i5 might have been a little better, but all in all I think we did alright. Feel free to ask me any questions.
