Description
It started as a budget machine and then quickly got turned into a beast.
The processor is overclocked to a stable 4.9ghz at 1.385v. With the cooling system on full speed it has sub-30 degrees when idle, stays under 60 degrees when benchmarking, and stays around 40-50 when on a marathon gaming session. On silent mode it idles a little high around 40 degrees and in gaming it can reach 70 degrees. On balanced and performance modes it is inbetween those two. Silent and balanced modes are exceptionally quiet, all you really hear is the water trickling in the reservoir. Performance mode is still quiet, you hear the fans a little bit, and on full speed the fans are noticeably loud.
After the pics were taken i doubled the ram to being 32gb of ram. I also listed two mice because i have one for RPGs and one for shooters and general use.
The ASUS Maximus VIII Formula has a really neat LED lighting setup with multiple zones and full RBG customization. I run all of the mobo lighting on green to match with the coolant in the clear tubes. Paired with blue LED corsair fans, it looks pretty sweet with a blue and green color theme. The inwin case has a full side of glass instead of just a window, as well as a hidden area to put the power supply which also adds to how nice and neat the whole thing looks.
It is quiet, looks sweet, and a beast for gaming
Part Reviews
CPU
have a rock solid 4.9 overclock on this thing. super beast. got it for under $300 at microcenter too.
Motherboard
looks great, runs cool, able to get my i7 beyond the 4.6ghz that my MSI mobo was unable to do.
Memory
timing could be better, could also have a better overclock ceiling. decent price point
Storage
good bang for the buck. only have the OS on it so i cant really say much other than it boots quickly
Storage
fast and great bang for the buck, especially on sale at amazon for $180
Case
looks amazing, good price point. could use for being about 3 inches taller so i can fit a 2-way SLI without cramming the second GPU against the case fans on the bottom
Power Supply
less vampire power sucked up compared to my old bronze certified one. quiet, no hum or noise from it.
Keyboard
nice clicky sound and a great feel. a bunch of conveniently located extra buttons. the LED settings are pretty slick. able to customize it so it matches my rig and mouse.
Mouse
hands down the best mmo mouse ever. the LED adjusting is cool and the clicks have a nice mechanical feel.
Mouse
awesome mouse for shooters and general gaming. it has adjustable click pressure with the included tool, the LED settings are pretty neat as well.
