+ Total (United Kingdom):
I recently finished building my new gaming pc, in a nice fancy open/testbench style case (https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/b/zNYTwP).. great i thought.. job done i thought...
But no... less than a week after completion, Wifey goes and buys a cat!
The new arrival took quite a shine to my open case pc, snuggling up between the tempered glass and the motherboard, and sticking her nose into the radiator fans... not good for the cat or the computer!
So had to do a bit of an urgent redesign, essentially a quick case transplant into something more cat proof!
Went for the NZXT H700i, its a nice looking case and fits my original design theme of white accents, also the free included puck (magnet thing) gives me somewhere to hang my rift!
(since i already had the parts from the build id literally just finished, ive only included the price of the new case+fans for the redesign)
Dont think its quite as pretty as my original build, but no little cat noses are going to get stuck into any components and wires will go un-chewed!
Its a living room htpc/console replacement and is hooked up to the main living room tv (4k/50" thing), uses all wireless peripherals (wireless mechanical keyboard/logitech g602 mouse and an xb1 elite controller) i know thatll trigger some of the die hard "must have the best response time" types!
Got the 8700k clocked at 5.2GHz (@1.4v) and the 1080ti at a more modest 1987MHz. Everything runs nice and cool, cpu under stress testing (avx loads) hits max 85 degrees, gpu 65-68degrees. Not quite as cool as the open air case, but not bad for a closed box.
edit Bit of an update to the system, added a 2nd 1080ti sc2 since just before the 20 series launched, they dropped to sub £500, so it was a no brainer to go sli, rather than splash £1300 on a 2080ti. The last photo in the list shows the updated rig.
