Description

I built this computer to handle photo and video editing as well as gaming. I moved to Windows from Mac because, as much as I love Mac software (OSX and its tools are better than Windows), I couldn't handle not having a video card any more, and I didn't want an all-in-one.

But I wanted a computer that was portable and small, that I could move around easily, whether to bring to LAN parties, or just move into the living room to game with friends. I was initially planning on going for the RVZ02 case for this build, but, as of 3 weeks after I've built this computer, it still hasn't come into stock. While waiting for it to come into stock, I found this case. It's 3.5 times larger than the RVZ02, but it's gorgeous and very portable and durable. So I'm very happy with my 380t.

I did suffer about three weeks of misery trying to troubleshoot it, though. The problem? The ASRock motherboard has its voltage settings incorrectly set by default. I was getting BSODs every hour. It was ridiculous. Thankfully, after lots of hair-pulling, techsupport on reddit provided the answer: set the voltage settings manually in the bios. That solved the problem because ASRock set their voltage up incorrectly. Way to go, ASRock /s.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Cheap, small, and keeps my overclocked 6600K very cool. I've overclocked it to 4.2GHz, and it still barely gets above 50*C.

Motherboard

Worst motherboard ever. I thought I got a defective motherboard at first because it was so bad; I got it replaced for the same model, and still the same problems. BSODs every hour.

After three weeks of obsession, I found the problem: the voltage settings are incorrect by default. I put them in manually, and voila, no more problems.

Also, the wifi antennas are very loose. I had to go to the hardware store to get some extra washers so they wouldn't flop around.

Very dissapointed.

Video Card

A great cost-effective card. Very happy with it.

Case

Larger than I would like (my case has a lot of empty space), but gorgeous, with lots of airflow. Durable and portable, too!

Power Supply

I love the SFX-L power supply format. It's tiny, great for small builds. Frees up a lot of space. And the fanless settings under low load are wonderful and make for a very quiet computer. But when it does come under load, the 120mm fan works quietly and efficiently.

This power supply was great for overclocking.

Love this build, you should post more pictures.

I used the same MB in my build and I have the same crappy loose wifi attennas. It pissed me off as well, I see i'm not alone...lol. I left it as-is for now since I don't really use wifi on my desktop but i think im going to try with two pliers (one to hold the inside metal and another to tighten from the outside.

Only thing I might have done differently is gone with the Xeon e3 since you are doing editing... but the 6600k is probably faster in most things.

Since I got this partly as a LAN-party computer, I'll need the wifi antennas connected well, so that was a priority for me. If you just use it as a desktop though, yeah, no need.

I was thinking of a Xeon or an 6700k to make the editing go faster. I decided against the Xeon because it would be worse for gaming and the i7 because I wouldn't have been able to afford a decent video card with it :P

I'll be sure to post more photos, then! I just need to get the cable management under control before I do. Right now... it's a bit of a mess.

I'll take more pictures this week, then! (need to do some cable management first)

How do you feel about the SSD? What are you putting on it, does it hold everything you need? Are you satisfied with the R/W?

I really like it. It's mostly photos, videos, and games on it. Going to get an XHDD for more photos and videos soon. I take a lot.

I could have paid more for a faster SSD, but I'm happy with the speed.

Awesome case, sucks to hear your motherboard wasn't functioning correctly, I honestly don't trust ASRock in general, I'd rather stick to Gygabyte or Asus. Awesome build!

I was originally planning on getting a Gigabyte or MSI motherboard, but neither of them had released an ITX motherboard at the time I was doing my build (Gigabyte has since released theirs, but neither MSI nor Asus has yet).

I'm glad you like the case though! I'm really happy with it.

How was the GPU? Would you recommend powercolor?

It's good. Runs cool at stock speeds. I haven't tried overclocking it so I can't comment on that.

How is the GPU holding up? Any coil whine or outrageous temps?

Nothing so far! Temps are low and haven't had any coil whine.

For a case that looks like a futuristic toaster and is the price of a fancy restaurant, it works.
