Description

My Q6600 and 8800 GTS 512 were getting a little tired, so I decided to put them to pasture. I compiled this build over a few months to try and get the best deals on parts that I could, everything I purchased was either on sale or had a rebate.

Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

I'm really happy with this cooler, very easy to install and it runs cool, 24C idle temps and 54C load temps with an i5-6600k OC'd to 4.4GHz. My only complaint is that the included thermal paste was pretty dried out until about half way through the tube.

Motherboard

Very nice motherboard, I like that all the SATA ports face the side rather than the front, that really helps with cable management. The on board audio doesn't leave much to be desired and if it did you can just swap out OP amps to suit. Killer Ethernet is great so far. And it's the only board I found that will do SLI for under $180. The only downfall I have run into so far is that the PCIe 1x slot is unusable with a 2 slot video card.

Case

I love this case. The cable management is awesome, there is plenty of room in the back to stuff cables without having to get them to lay perfectly flat. Not having to remove screws to open it up is super nice. I wish the front panel was on the top rather than the side opposite the window, but it keeps the visible sides pretty clean. A clear rather than smoked window would have been better IMO.

Hey, great build! Yours is similar to my recent upgrade I'll be posting on here soon. Both of us got the mATX Evolv for $85 afterall, which I think is a steal. Overall, +1

very clean cable management underneath the desk. i'm impressed. what is it attached to the desk?

jrniemand submitter 1 Build 1 point 39 months ago

The desk is home-made from IKEA parts.

i've really been leaning towards that desk. it seems perfect for gaming. i'm tired of gaming on crappy desks. plus since i'm tall most desks have horrible leg room haha

So does that mean you bought a desk at IKEA and assembled it at home? Or did you have spare parts lying around and you made one from scratch?

jrniemand submitter 1 Build 1 point 38 months ago

I bought a kitchen counter, legs, etc... at IKEA and turned them into a desk.

What do you think of the XF140mm fans?

jrniemand submitter 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

They are nice, quiet and can go pretty slow.
