Description

This system has served me well over the past few years! Sadly the only thing I want to upgrade right is so ridiculously price right now I guess I'll just wait on new video cards!

This is my main PC (OS X) and gaming rig (Win 7). The only hardware issue I had with the build was the fans on the H-80i are complete ****. I replaced because of the noise they generated. The radiator is configured for push pull, and is venting out the rear of the case. The rest of the fans are on the PWM, the front 200mm is intake, and the top 140's are exhaust. I removed the 3.5" drive bays from the case for better air flow in. I also removed the Plextor SSD from the PCIe board and installed it in the 10G M2 slot. There's no difference in performance but it does free up the PCIe slot for something else in the future. I opted to use the Gigabyte 3-Way SLI bridge just because it looks cleaner then the ribbon needed for 2-Way. If the cable Nazi's have complaints now there's nothing I can do for em, this is as clean as it gets for me. The Auria monitors are IPS, 1440p, with a 6.5ms response time, for the price they can not be beat! The Alesis studio monitors (speakers) are pretty sharp and surprisingly neutral for the price point, they do require a sub, and can be easily over driven.

Update: Looks like the Gigabyte X99-UD4 can not handle 2800MHz RAM. After having RMA'd my RAM, and updating to the latest F9 BIOS version, I still can not boot using the XMP Profile 1 of 2800MHz!

Nice build, Bit cramped though +1

$300 for that case is ridiculous! I would have went with something cheaper and better on the case, but other than that, +1.

I bought the case 10 years ago, I guess I should point that out in the build info.

Thanks for the review on Ram for the x99 ud4. Quite a nice build overall!

"Corsair sold me a product with ****** Corsair fans. I shall replace them with different Corsair fans."

I understand they're good fans that you've replaced them with, but why reward the company with more of your money for selling you a half-baked product?

I agree with you fully, sadly they were the only pressurized fans available when I went to get new ones.

Nice, I ALMOST said something about not getting 970's then I looked at the date built. Great build!! I like that case. (:

The 780ti overclocked goes punch for punch with the 980 and even bests it on some games... I love the 970s I have one I'm just sick of the "why didn't you get the 970" replies no offense it just seems people automatically say that without knowing anything about what they are saying!!

Are the Auria's those speakers you have underneath your monitors?

  • 1 point

They're the monitors.

The speakers are Alesis Elevate 3 Studio Monitors. Great speakers if you understand the purpose of reference monitors. They are easily over driven, and require a sub.

The Auria EQ276WN is a IPS, 1440p, 27" LED monitor. I have 3 of them, they are excellent!

I'm surprised that reference monitors are only $99. I've only had experience with reference headphones, AKG 712's. I tried them on and loved them. Then I saw the price tag $300!

Man after spending all that money PLEASE put this beautiful machinery in a newer case like an enthoo lux or CM Stryker , corsair 750d something PLEASE

Hmm... I don't like the looks of the other two but that Corsair 750D just might work. I'm old school so I favor a simplistic case design, if it isn't functional I don't want it on my case. I will consider picking it up, and it should appease you cable Nazi's :)

Just watched a review of the 750D the optical drive bay design kills it for me. The case looks terrible with anything in the 5.25" bay. Any other suggestions?

Well after wasting over an hour watching different case reviews on youtube I ordered the Aluminium Phantek Enthoo Luxe in black.

Just got my Enthoo Luxe in, no wonder you guys don't have any issues with cable management, this thing is huge! My Lian Li is a full tower case and the luxe seems massive in comparison.

As long as UPS shows up later with the rest of the parts (few more sleeved SATA cables, and Enthoo SSD tray) I'll post pics tonight!

Can you share what instructions you used to set this up with OSX since the x99 is not yet fully supported.

Just a normal unibeast install with a kernel patch.

Very nice build man, +1. I want to do a similar build for hacknitosh. Did you have any issue using any of the USB etc ports on OS X? Did you try thunderbolt?

  • 1 point

No thunderbolt, all the USB ports work great. Have to use chameleon because clover freaks out with two video cards.

What's the video output on the mother board??

X99 doesn't have integrated video.

Quality wise its excellent, I'm just not a trackpad person.

Temperatures seem way too cold. Your room would have to be very cold (like 50°F) to achieve a temperature of 9°C. Other than that, beautiful machine.

Sweet build! Curious if any of those drive trays are removable? It seems like you could tidy up your cable management, but overall +1.

  • 2 points

Yup they're removable, even hot swap on a compatible controller. The cable management is a product of the older case.

  • 1 point

Yes but look at your overall cable management in your very last picture. Hide all of the cables you can/tidy it up and it will look much better!

I know,I know... I've given up on cable management outside the case. Every single time I've ever gone through and tied up and routed all of the cables, something comes up and I have to take it all down. The longest I've ever gone without taking my setup down for one reason or another is one month!
