I won't do that. It sounds like it's doing the job that you needed it to do so that's what matters. I don't see any internal photos though. Could we have one or two internal photos when you have the time, please?

Also, how much did this build cost total? I'm assuming you had a tight budget with what I see on the part list. Also any particular reason to purchase the CM 212 EVO? I have one myself but on an i7-4790K. I know Cryorig's M9i is a great substitute too, over an intel stockfan for better air cooling.

Regardless, thanks for sharing and enjoy your build.

Aha, no worries. Makes more sense now about the DDR3. An FX build, still a nice part list.

My Cryorig M9i suggestion doesn't apply to this part list now. ;)

He probably got it because it is a cheap and good CPU cooler.

Love the build! I wish I chose that case in my build but I instead went for a matte black monolith of a case.

Cheap...? I was lucky I got mine for $29.99 from three years ago. Sure, you are right that it isn't too pricey and does a good job. I just think OP could have saved an additional 10 dollars with the Cryorig M9i if they didn't want to use their stockfan. Yes, I too have the Cooler Master 212 EVO, even though I replaced the default fan ages ago; however, for OP's current CPU the CM 212 EVO is plentiful.

It's like 22$ Canadian where I am :D Really cheap and good.

That includes sales tax? That's good to hear and yes I know it's good. I have one too... :)

On the grand scale of CPU coolers, 30$ ain't that expensive. Liquid coolers are at least 60$ and other coolers are around 50$

I would've gone with the Pentium G4560. Its very similar performance, but its also nearly 30 dollars cheaper. Could've put that extra 30 toward an RX470 or something similar.

True and a different MOBO along with that G4560 with some DDR4 instead.

Mate, get DDR4 RAM as soon as you can. That's a Skylake processor and they can only safely accept DDR4 RAM. DDR3 due to the higher voltages, will damage a Skylake processor.

Technically Skylake and Kaby Lake are safe with DDR4 and DDR3L. If someone is using a Skylake CPU with DDR3 than it's recommended to lower the voltage at 1.35v. You are right though, if the DDR3 is 1.4v between 1.6v than the CPU is gradually going to be damaged. The sooner the DDR3's voltage is lowered than the better.

Yeah, and I believe not all RAM can be lowered. There's also the matter of the motherboard only supporting a minimum of 2133

  • 1 point

True; however, OP's motherboard supports DDR3 1066, 1600, 1866. Hm.. some additional information says you can manually update the BIOS to support the 7th intel generation too: upgrade BIOS to support the newest 7th Intel CPU

Would a GeIL EVO POTENZA 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory do?

  • 1 point

Also how do you know that?

It's been tested, and Intel says so.

Anything DDR4 will be good.

Nice build, but why would you put a cpu cooler on an i3-6100 while you will not be able to overclock with this motherboard. The B150 chipset does not have the power to OC.

You could of saved a lot of money if you had chosen a Intel Pentium 4650 pentium cpu it just barely under performs an i3-6100 and it's half the price.

...and no optical drive then you could get a better GPU and would get much better framerate.

What if OP already had it, so maybe it was a pass over part? Though I cannot speak for OP.

Oh and also buying Windows for cheaper

* coughs and clears her throat *

Be careful here...

The companies who sell the keys acquire them illegally (don't exactly know how). So in turn it isn't exactly illegal for you to buy a key from these companies since you could argue you didn't know but it most surely isn't ethical as you are supporting the illegal acquisition of the keys. And yes it does violate MS's TOS. The best way to acquire a windows licence on the cheap would be going through your school/university and seeing if they offer anything.
