Workstation used for 3D Rendering, Photo/Video Editing & Panoramic Stitching.

ASUS X99 WS-E motherboard fitted nicely after initially receiving a mismatch error with Corsairs 780T on PCPartPicker. Thermaltake Water 3.0 Ultimate screwed easily into motherboard without having to use the supplied back plate.

Gigabyte GTX 980 G1's nearly silent until under full load, Corsair HX1000i fan is inactive until under half load, even then not much noise. With all fans in turbo mode and the 980's under full load whilst playing Shadows of Mordor at 4K it sounds like it is about to take off!

LED lights on the 980's are dimmed to around the 25% mark, there is also a blue LED strip light around the top and left half of the case.

29-11-2014 + Updated BIOS, saw an increase from 22d to 32d on the CPU, stange huh? + Overclocked CPU to a moderate 3.9GHz, seen charts online of massive power increase after 4.0GHz. CPU at same idle temp of 32d + 3D Mark11 Basic Edition achieved P26423 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980(2x) and Intel Core i7-5960X + Middle-Earth: Shadows of Mordor, FPS; Max = 120.90 Average = 51.14 Minumum = 33.67, Very playable at 4K!

Next Purchases include; Mechanical Keyboard, 3Dconnexion mouse, Mouse with quick DPI adjustment, KRK VXT6 Studio Monitors

Future/Dream Purchases include; 4K IPS display & Quadro Card, Upgrade PSU, RAID Controller and more 4TB drives

Cheers, Nathan

You have an X99 build with dual 980's in a 780t and you don't give us more internals?

where's the love

How are you temps with that cooler? Planning to upgrade mine from stock cooling and would like to know.

XDestroyer 1 point 53 months ago

I'm surprised this doesn't have a high amount of downvotes for the lack of pictures...

Blackie_Sheen 1 Build 1 point 53 months ago

Looks amazing but like the others said: We need more pictures. Also...I know its a workstation but you need to overclock that monster. I saw a lot of people push it to 4,3 gigahertz with 1.3 volts or less. You could probably push it to 4 gigahertz

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 53 months ago

Haha thanks for the comments . Yes I would bang also if possible.. Been flat out at work have had barely anytime to play with her. Will upload some build pics and plan to do a better photoshoot soon. Stock idle temp is avrage 22, with fans on max and air con on she sat as low as 18 GREaT COOLER! Did the Asus OC tuning and got 4.5 at 1.25 volts. Keeping her stock while it's summer and let it run stable for at least a month before I go for a manual OC. Open to suggestions and more tech to ad, next purchases in the distant future are a raid controller more WD drives, quadro card and a 10bit display.

Did you have any trouble fitting the Asus X99-E WS into the Corsair 780T? I am finding that PCPartPicker throws up a compatibility issue when I pick the X99 and the Corsair 900D. Even though they are different cases, If you didn't have any trouble with yours, I would imagine I wouldn't have any trouble with mine. Maybe PCPartPicker is getting too picky.

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 50 months ago

No problem with mounting mobo, see picture above :) fixings where already set in place on case :D

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 46 months ago

Too dammmmm easy to fit! I was also worried, wanted case so bad I would have modded it to fit

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

Refer to picture, fits perfectly. Mounts in case are allready set!

Vacationer 1 point 51 months ago

very very good looking machine why you didn't go for Raid 0 or PCIe SSD?

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 50 months ago

Raid will be next, 256 is almost full on programs alone, a second is needed! Hopefully samsung has some kind of migration tool that allows me to strip it to the 2nd ssd

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

Yeah... space is getting a premium at the moment, will look into PCIe once prices drop. I dont find in bottle necks in what I do. Dont need a quick startup time. I have a temp drive for all my working files and cache in raid 0 for when ram runs out. Yes I chew up 64GB of ram stacking/stitchin 200 x 30mb RAW images.

TechyinAZ 14 Builds 1 point 50 months ago

Wow, very pretty! How is that thermaltake liquid cooler working?

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 46 months ago

Good!!! Its winter at the moment, 10 degrees and is idling at 22 @ 4.6GHz when I am editin in after effects or premier its about 36 after a decent 5 hour sessions. When I am rendering heavy 3d scenes overnight i change OC to 4Ghz and it doesnt go over 48 degrees.

TechyinAZ 14 Builds 1 point 46 months ago

Wow nice! Yeah in winter and me and my family are out of the house, we turn off the heater in the house so it's like 63 F, my PC idles at 15C!.

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

Extracts hot air out from the case via the top, cold air drawn in from the front. Has the help a a dehumidifier air con facing in its direction

Raimei 1 point 49 months ago

If its okay to ask, have you had any issues with the motherboard? I intend to get one for myself (well, ofcourse... @.@), but the Newegg and Amazon reviews are somewhat scaring me. I wanna hear it from you if you've had any problems or none.

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 46 months ago

Mobo is as solid as a rock! No issues at all from installation. The first boards where beta versions and where leaked onto the market. Thery where the ones with issues. I have had her OCed at 4.6Ghz now @ 1.3v. The only problem I have had is with my new Roland USB sound card will not work. Driver issue I am sure, it works fine on my laptop which is connected to my CDJs. Maybe need to do a BIOS update, I have no leasure time at the moment.

The board will serve you well if you plan to get x4 SLI with full 16x PCI 3. Loads of USB 3 and abiility for thinderbolt 2. Will last for the next tick/tock intel processors processors to arrive. My build will serve me well for the next 5 years. Only upgrade I see is GPU updrage and new CPU in a couple years.

If you wanna save some cash Id go with the X99 Extreme6/3.1 it basicly same specs as ASUS X99-E at half the price. Minus 1 PCI and some USB 3;s

I have the Asrock extreme11 at work with a xeon, who are ASUS rouge developers. It offers 18 sata 3 ports including SAS support (might as well have a RAID controller, safer, more stable).. It can also support 128GB memory if you go with a xeon. If you want stability go with ASUS my work PC has issues crashing using REVIT mainly, however I did not build it. I believe it may be graphic card orientated as I enable PsyX to the CPU and it has no issues, strange it also has a quadro k4200 which is meant to be certified by autodesk.

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

No problems, I read too much into them too. First release had issues. Upgraged the BIOS no problems with the board itself. I was experiencing some unexpected shutdowns, but turned out to be the Geforce update and REVIT crashing, rollback to factory to solve.

unholykiler 1 point 46 months ago

What LED strips do you use, do you think you could link me them?

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 46 months ago

NZXT Sleeved LED 200cm Cable - Blue

Around $20 - 25 AUD, It took me a while to mount them into the right position for the desired effect. Any sleeved cable will do the job. It takes up a PCI slot down the bottom of the case.

The case also came with LED fans on the front, which are a similar colour.

I think I feel in love.....

Very clean aesthetics, this has got to be one of the hottest builds I've seen here.

nkd submitter 2 Builds 1 point 42 months ago

Thanks. Has been neglected, and sits under the desk lately. Need some new need bits!!!
