Description

After lurking for a long time on the reddit forum bapcsalescanada. I finally pulled the trigger this year on my first custom PC. With the help of the forum I managed to snap couple of great deals this Black Friday saving me couple hundred dollars. I upgraded from a budget prebuilt PC that I bought 9 years ago on Boxing Day. You can imagine the difference is beyond night and day. I'm running all games on maxed settings above 100 fps. My day job is freelance video editing and I'm excited to see how well this machine performs editing and rendering 4K video. Pictures coming soon!

Breakdown:

CPU: Blazing fast, stays cool, I plan on doing some light overclocking once I watch some few tutorials.

Cooler: Keeps true to the brand, super silent, barely hear it running while keeping everything cool.

RAM: Not much to say about these.

SSD: Great speed and even greater storage. 750 GB on sale for 135 bucks, can't complain! No more super long boot up times!

HDD: Read some good reviews on them, 3TB of storage for all my media files.

GPU: The 1070 is a beast, on 1080p, maxed out settings, it runs all my game above 100 fps, some games way even higher. Paired with a 144hz monitor, it's a dream come true for me. For my entire life I've been gaming on minimum to low medium graphics and even in those settings I'd sometimes get below 60 fps depending on the game. Also plan on doing some light overlocking once I watch some tutorials. Note, I believe this "X" model only has red LEDs and the more expensive "Z" model comes with RGB if you care about these things.

Case: Really wanted a tempered glass case, it just looks so sleek!

Power Supply: Gold Certified, came with 10 year warranty, 650W is plenty for light overlocking and possible future SLI setup.

Monitor: Definitely my favourite part of the build. Everything looks so crisp. I know it's only 1080p but I am upgrading from a 1600x900, 9 year old Samsung. Even Youtube looks ten times better. I stayed within 1080p rather than going 1440p because the GTX 1070 will get above 100 fps in 1080p and frame rate is more important to me. With 144hz everything is buttery smooth with 1ms response time. Even though it's TN panel with some quick tweaking the colours looks great in my opinion. Only thing is it doesn't come with G-sync but that will cost few hundreds extra and with everything running above 100 fps I've yet to notice any tearing. Got it on sale for 299.99, I highly recommend this monitor.

Keyboard: Was eyeing the strafe with silent switches since it was announced because I wanted something quiet for streaming and recording. After testing the switches I liked the feedback you get from cherry mx browns a lot more. With the silent switches I was making typing mistakes all over the place, it probably just takes some getting use to. However now I need a better microphone so it doesn't pick up all the clicky noise. RGB would of been cool but the feature wasn't worth the extra 50 bucks for me.

Mouse: I watched a bunch of youtube mouse review videos and this one was ranked number 1. I was skeptical at first but man am I glad I got this mouse. It is THE most comfortable mouse I've ever used, even more so than the Razer Deathstalker which is also super comfy. This obviously depends on your hand size if you're a claw grip or palm grip but if you like the Deathstalker you'll love this one.

Not much to say other than "take my +1" like literally, solid build man, and upgrade to some cablemod cables. =P
