Description

Introduction - I attempted to make a high-tier gaming build. I believe it has succeeded. Meet Apollyon, the name given to it is from the angle named Abaddon/Apollyon (I preferred Apollyon). Apollyon meaning "The Destroyer" in Greek. I focused on a red colour scheme for this build, but kept it RGB in case of a future change. This is my third gaming PC build, I built my first back in '09 when I was 9 (now 16). My first being called Old Blue because of its blue theme, but now the name is a bit more real with it being 7 years old. My second was my sisters VR designer build about 1 month ago. Now my new gaming setup only 5 days ago (when posting this thread).

Building Process - Let me go into building this (sorry for not having a picture of when it all first arrived). I will also have my ratings of each product under each of them.

CPU Cooler - This was my first time doing an all in one Watercooling loop so mounting that radiator took me a bit of time. I soon managed to sort it out and in the pictures you can see it is mounted to the top in a push configuration.

CPU - Installing the CPU was just like always, sweaty, scary, and more stressful than end of year exams, but yet again I managed to do it smoothly :)

RAM - You may notice I went with 32GB on a gaming PC, you don't need 32GB on a gaming PC so if you are making a PC for gaming then just go with 16GB. The reason I went with 32GB is because I also do game development and video editing/recording, so 32GB was great for me. I did have an issue with the ram however, I managed to be REALLY "lucky" and none of them worked, I pushed them in and nothing... great. I contacted corsair with the issue and they told me to send back those ones and they will send some new ones back. Originally I had DDR4-2133 but considering the issue I ran into they made a mistake and sent back DDR4-2666. So I contacted them saying they send a higher grade one and that I can send that back and they give me the grade I paid for. Instead, what happened is the support said "Oh, don't worry, that was intentional, we are sorry that your original ones had malfunctioned so we instead sent those as an upgrade, kind of like a Christmas gift." I was not complaining, that was so nice of them and I am very happy that they did that even though they did not need to. For any of you have issues with corsair products, send it back and they might send an upgrade :D

MOBO - The motherboard had only one issue, and it wasn't even the motherboards fault. It wouldn't switch on... All I had to do was change the motherboard 24-pin cable and it worked fine.

Storage - For storage I really didn't need a $440 SSD, but I wanted to load my games off of that considering it is faster and my games take up 570GB of space so I thought, why not. I also chucked in the other 1TB storage for some software, pictures, videos, etc...

GPU - No issues with the GPU, I love the look of the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Xtreme Gaming Premium Pack and it runs like a charm. The only thing I changed with it is I made the LED's red, to suit the build of course.

Case - I chose the 760T as it has a nice design, awesome window view, and could fit everything I need it to. I did however change every fan inside. I'm not a massive fan (see what I did there) of stock fans. You may also notice in the pictures that I have taken the top panel thing off to expose the radiator and fans, this is just simply to not hold any air flow back.

Power Supply - For the PSU I wanted a modular one and something that wouldn't kill/exploded my PC. So $160 later and here we are! EVGA SuperNova 750W G2.

OS - Operating system I went with Windows 10 Home. Is that enough info?

Fans - Almost all my fans were from Noctua as they make sick fans, besides that really ugly tan and brown, legit that looks like someone spat chewed chocolate into milk... yum. Because of that, I went with the industrialPPC's, I also got Phanteks red LED fans to replace the stock LED fans in the case.

Monitors - I have a triple monitor setup, and probably will never change from that. My main monitor (centre) being an ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q, this monitor is great. I love it to bits, 144hz, nice red LED base, looks just... clean? That's the word I'm going with. Then I have two old Asus blah blah blah monitors... yay, 60hz master race!

Keyboard - The keyboard needs to go, I love this keyboard, but it's green. I don't know about you, but green really sticks out to you when everything around it is red. I will be getting the same model (Razer Deathstalker) but instead in the chroma edition (Razers way of saying RGB).

Mouse - The mouse is a Razer DeathAdder Chroma, I used to use the Razor Naga but recently changed to this and love it a lot more.

Headset - Astro A50's headset does what it's made to do, makes noise happen. I don't use the mic, as you may of seen in the pic I have an XLR mic on a stand (at2020), so I can't really judge that. But I like these headphones and they are pretty damn good quality.

NZXT Hue+ - This is one of the more expensive LED packs, it comes with a little hub type thing, 4 LED magnetic/tape strips, and some cables. To change the colours around you download the CAM software NZXT has made and it can all be changed in there. You may wonder why these are so pricey and it's because of the huge amount of features it has.

Desk LED's - A bit expensive but work fine, 4 LED strips, a hub, a controller, and some cables. It has a flash feature to switch between the colours fast and a fade feature to switch between the colours slow.

Future Upgrades - My future changes are: I will get another GPU and put it into SLI, change the keyboard to Razer DeathStalker Chroma, get one more ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q and also get an Acer Predator Z35 Curved monitor, so the monitor setup will be curved in the middle with the two PG278Q on either side.

Conclusion - Overall I love this build, this has been my most anticipated thing from the moment I started to pick all my parts. It can do anything I need it to and runs so smooth, and yes, it can run Crysis over 30FPS. Thanks for reading!

Part Reviews

CPU

Works great! Does what a CPU is born to do!

CPU Cooler

Changed the blue to be red using the Corsair Link software and it now fits in nicely with the colour scheme! Also keeps my CPU at very nice and icy temperatures while staying quite.

Motherboard

Looks nice and has everything that I need on it! Very easy to use BIOS, comes with a easy menu if needed.

Memory

I love the red look, I do believe you can get these in other colours, not just red. Great quality, fast and reliable!

Storage

Perhaps a bit overkill with the 1TB SSD... Meh :P Its fast, its easy to install, it works. That's A+ in my book!

Storage

A good choice for those who need a bit more storage!

Video Card

Looks sick and works perfectly! max setting in every game, I get 300+ FPS on First-Person shooters, MOBA, simulators, and other games like that. Open world, MMO, and other larger games It still will be 100-250 depending on the game. In the Heaven Benchmark 4.0 I got a max of 224. a min of 34, with a avg of 116. This was running at Ultra quality in 2560x1440 fullscreen. Overall 10/10 would purchase again.

Case

Awesome looking case, really love the massive window side panel. Also plenty of things you can rearrange!

Power Supply

Gave me a broken 24-pin cable. Still had a backup and works fine.

Operating System

Besides that huge amount of monitoring they do if you don't custom install windows and turn it off, it is all good!

Case Fan

Good stuff Phanteks, love these LED fans.

Case Fan

These are really good quality fan, but they come at a price. Just wish they didn't use ugly colours for there non-industrialPPC series.

Case Fan

These are really good quality fan, but they come at a price. Just wish they didn't use ugly colours for there non-industrialPPC series.

Monitor

I guess its good if all you want is 1080p with 60hz, I would get the PG278Q for gaming still.

Monitor

That ROG Swift PG278Q is just.... mmmmmmmmm. LOVE IT! It comes with a HDMI and DP so pick the way you connect. This thing spins and twists like its the exorcist and can be OC'd to 180hz if 144hz isnt enough for you!

Keyboard

Need to get the Chorma going! Otherwise, very nice looking keyboard and it is comfortable.

Mouse

Comfortable and quality mouse!

Headphones

Great sounding! Just wish the mic was removable like how it is on the A40's

If you have the micro USB to internal USB 2.0 connector hooked up, which it looks like you do (running from the bottom of the pump block) then you can change the water cooler LED color. You just need to download Corsair Link, their color and temperature management program.

Nice Build!!! The only one thing i can complain about is the cable management as it could've been a little neater, other than that great build. :)

I have a certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology, also a certificate in C++. I did put the money towards this build from doing free lancing for companies/indie developers. Only thing my parents paid for was the fees for those courses xD But I guess when I was 9 and got the parts for my first PC that was me being spoiled ;)
