Description

Purpose: Gaming and editing/rendering

Let me introduce myself. I am Frank and I come from The Netherlands. I am 21 years old and PC building is one of my hobby’s. At the moment I'm in my second year of my 2nd study. First study: Mechanical Engineering and 2nd study: Industrial Product Design.

After watching lot's of tutorials I decided to make my own PC. Only searching for components took me a few weeks because I wanted to stick to my theme. (Black/White).

Al packages were deliverd and building my gaming pc could finally begin!

MOBO, RAM and Kraken X61 were installed in case till I saw a problem... The GPU size :|

My GPU choice: GALAX GeForce GTX 1070 HALL OF FAME. I choose this because of the white looks and the preformance. After some research I saw it could fit in the NZXT Manta case. But didnt checked how thick it was. And there was my problem... As y'all can see on the pictures the cover of the PSU is bend in a corner. At that moment I could only think of another GPU that would fit. Thought about buying the EVGA GTX 1070 FTW. But I really wanted to use this GPU so I figure out a way to let it fit.

What I did: Drilling the rivets out. So I could bend the "PSU cover" back to 180 degrees (flat). And make a black aluminium strip with holes to keep everything in place.

Yes, the GPU fit! But was kinda sketchy about the little room between the fans from the gpu and the "PSU cover". (heating issues?) Lets test that later! I also used the "GPU sack stick" to get the gpu at a good level.

As y'all can see, all visible cables are fully sleeved or replaced with white extension cables.

While building I also orderd a "NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion" so I could use the Hue+ and the Kraken X61 together.

First boot up went good! Everything worked out fine!

Overclocking for the first time: Damn that's something new. After lots of stress tests I kept my CPU stable at 4.4Ghz instead of the regular 3.5Ghz from factory. Also overclocked my GPU.

CPU tempertures are very good. (Full load: max 50/55 degrees) GPU tempertures are good aswell. (Full load: max 65 degrees)

If y'all have any questions, please let me know! I hope you enjoy this album!

Frixxes / Frank

Add later to build: 2nd Monitor NZXT Grid+ V2 DIY headset + headphone stand (product designer... so that wouldnt be a problem)

Damn this looks really good, should be featured!

Just a quick question, how did you mount the monitor to the wall and hide all the cables running to it?

  • 3 points

I bought a TV wall mount (max. 30kg and vesa 100mm) and cables true white cable strip (behind plant). If you really want to see how I manage to made it almost invisible I can make pictures for you! :)

Lol now that you mentioned it I can see it, pretty clever, it blends in so well. I'd like to see pictures of it thanks.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling this won't get featured, even though it deserves it. It's sorta bad timing, Jipster finally uploaded his comp-winning build, that'll probably still be featured for like another week or so

Maybe there is a chance they put it after Jipster? idunno! We'll see :D

Thankyou! Yeah im making plans to upgrade. Maybe extra screen for temps and other side stuff while gaming! Also designed my own Headphone/Headset stand! Only need to lasercut my acrylic plate and add rgb in the wooden holder! And im almost finished with making my own 3D printed logo's to stick to the front of the pc!

I have a build that uses the i5 6600k clocked at 4.5 GHz with an 970, and all I have to say about it is that it is a great CPU and I can see why you chose it. All in all nice build

  • 1 point

Nice OC to the CPU. I could make it 4.5Ghz but its a ****** thing to keep it stable... 970 will do fine by now ;)

Granted most of your components are higher end you could have saved some money idk if money would be a problem for you anyways But props for using a all corsair peripherals for your mouse and keyboard at least You could get some sick color coordination that way.

AMAZING BUILD THO LOVE THE SCREEN i7 upgrade would be sick plus maybe a 1080 titan p? & 2 more monitors :P

  • 1 point

Yeah I could use other components... But these are just beautifull and very good quality aswell!

Tintan X would be nice! But for now a little overkill for my purposes! Yeah I still have my old screen ( Asus VX239H) but it has no vesa mount! So planning to make own or buying other simple 1080p screen ;)

There is no better compliment than this! small question; I looked at your marooned build and saw the noctua fans! How are they? Low dB(a)? Still not totally satisfied about the kraken x61 noice. ty!

  • 1 point

Noctua fans are amazing. Honestly the Only fan I can hear is the one on PSU.. Even at max speed, what you hear is a nice hum, but I'm running all PWM fans.

Still not totally satisfied about the kraken x61 noice. ty!

I'm using the brown noctua which honestly wont look good in your build. You have three options

noctua industrial pwm 2000 rpm with white or black chromax mount (note that this are industrial and any fan at 2000 rpm is going to be loud so you would need to run with a PWM setting)

Or this beauty (NB-eloop B14-PS or non pwm B14-3) which are expensive. This are the ones swiftech uses for their premium (prestige) AIO liquid coolers.

Thanks for the explanation!

PWM is like a fan controller right?

The kraken fans are on top of my case. Invisible so it wouldnt matter what color they are :D

  • 1 point

PWM is like a fan controller right?

No, PWM is different.. the fans you use with a fan controller are 3 pins and you can only set this at a fixed speed. For a PWM fan you will need to connect to PWM fan header which is the CPU_FAN header. PWM in simple words... The motherboard will automatically adjust the fans RPM's depending on the temperature and header should have different PWM settings.

  • 1 point

Ah okay thanks for the explanation! The CPU_FAN isnt used atm because I use the Kraken x61 that is controlled by CAM :D

Yes indeed, first 1070 HOF card! Think sorta bad timing to get featured?

  • 2 points

Nice build Frank!

Can I ask how noisy it is? I'm asking 'cause my next project is gonna be a White Manta build, and I'm stuck on choosing a X41 or X61.

  • 1 point

If I were you... go for X61 or the new X62. The 60 series have a double radiator. So the fan has to work less to cool it. The noise depends on the setting. Idle is okay. Preformance mode is noisier! But alsno okay when you play a game!

This. Your first ever build.

This is awesome for a seasoned builder and yes it deserves to be featured. There is a reason there are so many white builds, so many minimalist builds.
This is sexy AF. Your first ever build. I'm going to use this as the foundation of my upcoming build.

I think PCPP should do a contest in FEBruary for first ever builds and give out prizes to these new enthusiasts who are already on point !

Cheers, take my +1

Thanks a lot!

I feel honored! But I don't think its getting featured. The time I uploaded this build was kinda bad timing because Jipster's build was featured.

Very curious about your upcoming build! Keep me informed :D

Do you know randomfrankp? He is putting me on his Room Tour Project show on youtube!

Wow, awesome build man. I'd actually like to thank you for posting this, 'cause I was uncertain about putting a Hall of Fame 1070 in my black and white build, couldn't find anyone else who did it. With how well it worked out for you I think I'll give it a go.

  • 1 point

Thanks! Yeah its really awesome card!

Keep in mind that its a freaking huge GPU!! (and when you want to watercool it later in the future that its not compatible with EKWB waterblocks...

Good luck mate!

  • 1 point

My case has plenty of room (Phanteks P400) and I don't think I'll be trusting myself with a water cooled GPU any time in the near future :P Thanks for the heads up, though.

And thank you, if it works out I may end up posting the build on here eventually.

my only thought is that if this is for video editing, 500gb may not suffice. Also, why get an unlocked CPU if you are not going to overclock? (needs a z170 chipset on the motherboard) beyond that, looks great on everything else.

P.S. How did you get the monitor to the wall? that is amazing! +1

  • 2 points

It is a Z170 mobo and 500GB is more than enough for video editing. He has already explained how he mounted the monitor on the wall above! ???

I will make a picture for the people that are curious about the wall mount!

Hi mate I really need some help.

Im planning to base my first build off of yours but im worried about the gap between the Psu ans GPU. Is it ok and does it overheat?

  • 1 point

Hi mate,

Cool! Depends on the GPU you'll choose... If you choose the gpu that I got. Than you need to do some mods to the case...

The gap between mine psu and gpu is like 4mm... Its not recommended. But my temps are good!

Keep me up to date! Cheers Frixxes

  • 1 point

Yh im planning to buy the hof 1070 what mods are you talking about?

  • 1 point

Look at my post, you'll see pictures and text how I managed to get the 1070 hof inside the NZXT Manta case.

You should think about it... If I were you... i would buy a (EVGA GTX 1070 FTW) and try to get it custom painted. The gap between the gpu and psu is minimal.

  • 1 point

Hell at that price for a GPU you might as well buy a 1080.

  • 1 point

Hey man! Love this build when I saw it on YouTube, I modeled my build after it. NZXT Manta, also z170n and 6600k, but using a 970 HOF instead of a 1070. Though your case modding was never mentioned there, so I ran into the same problem you did. Could you send me more photos, if possible, of the modding you did and explain further? I'm in a hole right now, with a GPU-less build. thanks!

  • 1 point

Hey men!

Yeah its a thick GPU. What I did is, drill the pop-rivet away so the cover of the PSU is loose. Than make a strip that will fit between those holes (that was óne before) If you scroll down to my last pictures you will see what I mean.

Hi there,, love this build man!.. one question though, is the painted "white part" inside the case (beside the Mobo area where there is the NZXT engraved... is it removable? like if i want to re paint or do something on that part alone.. is it removable by screws?

Sorry for the delay, I guess its not removable. But using a saw would maybe work? ;p

Is there a reason why almost everyone who has a Manta case mounts there radiator on the top of the case?

Yeah a white desk looks amazing with RGB led strips. Its reflecting!

Sadly enough I can't give you a link to this desk because I painted it myself... It was a wooden desk before. Sanded it multiple times and multiple layers white! :D

I can't control the case fans true the fan hub by using CAM. Only use CAM for fan speed of the AIO cooler and hue+.
