Description

Greetings fellow PC building enthusiasts!

This was just a quick build that my buddy and I did a few weeks ago for his son who wants to get into entry level gaming. He wants to play stuff like LoL, Minecraft and some other less demanding games so we decided to try and build something for him with used parts on the cheap! The result is what you see in the pictures, we slapped an RGB LED strip in there from cablemod to help it stand out a bit.

Performance is pretty good for gaming (as good as a GTX 760 can be I suppose) and the overclocked Phenom still packs a pretty good punch! I wouldn't recommend this CPU/GPU combo for anything other than low end gaming but for what it's being used for it does a great job lol

The only downside to doing an ultra budget build like this is the fact that the case is pretty terrible for cable management but I tried my best! Additionally the front panel connectors are all different colors (unlike some budget cases that at least make them all black) and there's not really any clean way to route them to the MOBO.

Other than the case the whole build was super smooth, gotta say I'm a huge fan of the cablemod RGB LED strip too; the included remote is super fun to mess around with!

Thanks for checking out the build and feel free to ask me any questions or leave comments, until next time!

I know right? I've used 760's in a couple of builds now and it's always been such a great card for the money lol

Great job keeping it clean and utilizing older parts. I've built rigs with that cpu and it still can be used on a budget. +1

Thanks man! Yeah, the CPU definitely still holds it's own in gaming! I wouldn't recommend throwing too many google chrome tabs at it though LOL

Budget builds are the hardest to make look good, especially when buying used parts for as cheap as possible. Absolutely stunning job on this and I am sure your buddy's son was excited to get this. You spent less on this PC than I did on my HTPC rebuild with reusing a few parts and that was a budget build too.

Thanks a bunch man! Yeah, had a lot of fun with this one trying to get the best bang for our buck lol I'm a big fan of budget builds like this too, it's always fun seeing how older hardware can perform in modern titles!

Absolutely!

The fact that it was able to keep up with the GTX 760 in 1080p was a real treat, they overclock pretty well too!

Thanks! The last Phenom chip I messed around with was an X4 955 and it didn't want to go anywhere above 3.6 so I guess it really does depend on the CPU lol This one has no problem with 4.0 but as soon as I try to go above that it wouldn't boot, really happy with the overclock though!

But yeah, it should work out really well for him for under $400, not a bad way to get into PC gaming on the cheap!
