Description

Used primarily for gaming, coding, personal use, everyday stuff, etc.

Extensions from the reddit user Jappetto. Red, white and black to match the case! I think it looks pretty sick. :)

LEDs are BitFenix white LED strips (2x 600mm, 1x 300mm) from FrozenCPU

Feel free to comment and ask any questions.

Update 02/09/15: Been a while since the last update. Replaced monitor with an Acer B326HK 4K monitor. Probably going to wait for broadwell to upgrade at all. For now, it's good. :)

First off, beautiful build, with some really exquisite cable work. Next, Iv'e got a legit question. I'm getting the new Corsair 450D next month and I'm also getting a new CPU cooler. I had intended on getting either the H100i or the H105, but a youtube reviewer who I sorta swear by (LinusTechTips) mentioned that the H105 wouldn't fit in the top of this case. However, you seem to have done it quite nicely here. Did you have any issues with that at all? A tip would be super helpful as this will shape my decision of which cooler to actually buy. Again, great build, luv them cables. Thanks!

  • 1 point

The H105 is going to be a tight fit on most motherboards, and some may not even fit, but with the UD4H, you can clearly see in the picture that it does indeed fit.

  • 1 point

Ok,cool. Ive got a UDH3, which i believe is actually smaller, so do you think that'll work? thanks btw :)

  • 1 point

Don't think the UD3H is any smaller, but it's definitely not any bigger. Should be fine.

  • 1 point

Is that the power for the pump for the water cooler? looks like! anyways, well balanced, nicely wired build!

  • 1 point

It's 3 cables, one for the pump power, one for the USB link cable, and 1 for the SATA/fan connections to power the fans.

  • 1 point

yay! I was (kinda) right! I have the same liquid cooler an I love it.

  • 1 point

Powerful, clean, efficient! A 3-pointer! Also, is this thing loud? I see you bought 9 fans. Could this cause a tornado?

  • 1 point

I made sure to buy super quiet fans. They don't push a huge amount of air, but since I have so many of them, it still makes for good airflow. The whole this is virtually whisper quiet.

  • 4 points

thats good to 'hear'... lol.

  • 1 point

Pretty...

  • 1 point

How do those apache fans do? It seems pretty hard to find a good radiator fan that has halfway decent performance, static pressure, and isn't insanely loud.

  • 1 point

They're great fans. Some of the best for rads. Either those or Gentle Typhoons would be my pick for radiator fans.

  • 1 point

Awesome build, one of my favorite on this site. I cannot find the black cable btw, you're toooooo good mister haha. Amazing build. I have a build just like this but it's in an phantom 820 case and will also be red and black. I'm just wonder how did you get the backplate for that card??? and how do you like those speakers?

  • 1 point

My question is do you have enough Fans? btw great build, but i would of used windows 7 not 8

  • 2 points

Windows 8 is a much faster operating system, and with Start8 or Start Is Back, you don't even have to interface with Metro at all.

  • 1 point

How is the kraken working for you?

  • 1 point

How does the motherboard work for you? anything special you needed to add or extra parts you needed to order for it? How is Windows 8 Professional working for you? having any problems like windows 7 did when it first came to par? Good build but you shouldve went for the 32GB

  • 1 point

great build but just a question where did you get the backplate for you msi card i just ordered one and i need a backplate :P

  • 1 point

It's an XSPC Backplate compatible with the Titan, 780 and 770. http://www.frozencpu.com/products/19433/ex-blc-1432/XSPC_Razor_GTX_Titan_780_770_Backplate_Full_Coverage_VGA_Backplate.html

However, the screws didn't fit, so I had to go get some custom screws to make it fit with the threads in the cooler. I ended up having issues with shorting and contact, so I just put an EVGA 780 backplate on it, it's not consistent, but it works.

Just wondering, did you use a 120mm fan for the exhauset? And if so, why did you pot for a 120mm and not a 140mm?

  • 1 point

Wanted the eLoop for the matching set, they only come in 120mm. They push as much air as most 140s though.

  • 1 point

Very Nice build! I'm building my first build in the Air 540 as well, I love this case. How do you like the Logitech Z506 speakers? I was looking at picking those up as well.

  • 1 point

Great little set of 5.1s for <$100. Would definitely recommend them.

  • 1 point

Hey so I was gonna build in the 540 in the future adn I wanted to ask if the lack of dust filters is an issue, I saw some dust filter kit specificaly for it but it was $80.00, do you think I would be good with just one for the PSU? Also in regards to your ram, are the dominators worth the extra price? And do you like the NAOS mouse? Thank you so much in advance it's my first build so I'm trying to get it right

  • 1 point

The only intakes I have on the 540 are in the front. Back and top are exhaust. So the only dust filter you really need is for the front, which it has a full-size filter. And, it's magnetic to boot.

I mainly got the doms because they overclock nicely, and look awesome with the rest of the case with the lightbar addition.

As for the NAOS. It's a great mouse, I just ended up getting a Func MS-3 because it was on massdrop for $29.99. I like this mouse better, just haven't changed it in the build since I'm going to do another update in about a month or so with a new case.

  • 1 point

hey man, awesome build! Im thinking of using the 450d with the ud3h and the h105. This build helps cause I'm not sure whether the h105 will fit but since you fit it in with a ud4h i know that it will.I was wondering could you have been able to fit the h105 in the other way around?

  • 1 point

I probably could have, but the tubes would be blocking airflow for the rear exhaust. I thought this orientation was the best option.

  • 1 point

Are you running the h105 as intake or exhaust? Beautiful build I must say. I'm wanting to do either h100i or 105 with a ud3h and it looks like both will fit. Did you have a minor or major problems with air flows or fans? The exhaust looks to be farther in the case which looks like it may cause some problems

  • 1 point

Running it as exhaust, as you should for top fans. Airflow isn't an issue, they perforated the hell out of the back, so air is naturally flowing up and out the back fine.

  • 1 point

with the power supply in. can you install a 120mm fan at the bottom?

  • 1 point

I would say that you probably could, although I think you might some cables in the way.

  • 1 point

did you have any problems trying to get the H105 in there?

  • 1 point

I did, until I realized I could move the grommets for the fan holes over a little to move it more towards the back of the case, then it fit better, but it's still pretty tight.

  • 1 point

+1 fantastic build!!

  • 1 point

That headset price....

And holy crap that keyboard is tiny.

  • 1 point

I actually got it off Massdrop for $350.

As for the keyboard, I love it.

  • 1 point

How do you have those light set up. Along the bottom and back? And how does it fit. I was going to get the same case with only 1 600mm strip of led is the other 300mm necessary?

  • 1 point

I think it is. It'll look a little dim at the top, otherwise. I actually have 2 600mm and a 300mm. 3 strips total.

They go along the edge closest to the side panel, then up above the exhaust back fan, they connect to the adapter that goes out behind to a 4-pin molex.

  • 1 point

scale of 1-10 whats your opinion on the 450d ?

  • 1 point

9/10. Only complaint is I wish there were more grommets next to the motherboard. Other than that, it's a great case.

  • 1 point

thanks, i am actually getting this case and looking forward to it !

  • 1 point

Nice build! One question, what are the stands you are using for the monitors and which monitor is which?

  • 1 point

Very nice build! I have the 450D also and am thinking of getting the Corsair H105. I wanted to know how you like the H105 and if you had any problems with it. Also, any issues with mounting it in a 450D?

  • 1 point

I had a little bit of an issue because of how thick it is, but you should be alright for most boards.

  • 1 point

Thanks for the reply.

  • 1 point

Any trouble fitting the thick h105? And if you were to put the hard drive cage in the top position, could a gpu still fit underneath?

  • 1 point

I had a little bit of difficulty, it's a very tight fit. YMMV as differet motherboards have different heatsinks.

And yes, a GPU would still fit.

  • 1 point

Why would you need 9TB of HDD space lol.

  • 1 point

Just because you don't doesn't mean other people don't either. 3TB is a storage drive for anything, downloads, extra games, music, etc. 3TB is a drive just for movies/anime. The last 3TB is a backup drive for the other 2.

  • 1 point

get some Corsair Red SP fans and use them , itll be perfect them

  • 1 point

For what? SP120s are not good fans. The eLoops I have are much better quality and perform better.

  • 1 point

What do you think of the Func MS-3?

  • 1 point

Most comfortable mouse I've ever used. Highly recommended, especially that it's under $50.

  • 1 point

What are your monitors?

  • 1 point

Well they're different in the pictures (I should upload new ones), but in them it's a QNIX QX2710, and an ASUS PA248Q. Now, I just have a single LG 34UM95.

First off, Holy Mother of God. Also where did you get that keyboard, I NEED IT!!!1!!

  • 1 point

May I ask where you got your eloops and what model they are? Also, did you out the eloops in the front as well?

  • 1 point

Fairly certain I got them on FrozenCPU, and they're B12-2s.

And, I don't understand what you mean by "out the eloops."

  • 1 point

My apologies, I meant to type "put the eloops" in the front of the case. Thanks for the reply

  • 1 point

Oh, then, yes there's 5 eloops total in the system. 2 front, 2 top, 1 rear.

  • 1 point

Thank you sir :)

  • 1 point

Smexy, +1. What's with the 10tb?

  • 2 points

I've explained this in another comment I believe, but 1TB SSD is for most of my games. 1 3TB is for downloads, music, any other random stuff I have, 1 3TB is for anime, and the 3rd 3TB is a backup for the other 2 3TBs.

  • 1 point

I have same case and I want the H105. Does it fit with push and pull fans or do you just have the push fans?

  • 2 points

It barely fits with just one set of fans. I actually wouldn't really recommend the H105 with this case, you'd have almost no room, and some motherboards wouldn't even let it fit.

  • 1 point

Thank you. Looks like H100i for me.

Hello! This is a beautiful build I must say. Never would have thought that one day I would love cables as much as I do now. +1

I do have one question though, I see you have the EVGA pro SLI bridge, but it looks like it is white. Did you paint it like that, or is it just a trick of the light reflecting off it making it look white?

If you did paint it, was it easy? I am planning to do a white and black only build, and if I could paint that it would be amazing.

Thanks!

Nice rig!!

I have a question, I am getting a h105 in the mail and I have a corsair 450d, from what I've heard many say it doesn't fit. But obviously it fits with your system.

Was it easy to install?

  • 1 point

It's an extremely tight fit. I wouldn't really recommend it, as I got pretty lucky with the heatsink size. I would maybe suggest just trying it first and seeing if it fits, otherwise, return it for the H100i.

  • 1 point

Ok, I'd really hate to get the H100i again since I do have a h100i right now in my system but it's not working some of the time.

I'm ok with an extremely tight fit, as long as it can fit good enough to not push my vrm heatsinks around then i'm happy.

I was actually looking at the same one. Can you recommend it?

Oh yes, for the price, it's very good quality and built extremely well.

Build looks epic, I've been thinking about getting that case as it looks like it has awesome airflow with the HDD's and SSD's out of the way along with the opticals. I really want to have CM like that, too. The only thing that I don't really know about is the Mobo which has x16 x8 multipliers for 2-way SLI. I feel like half of one of your video cards is being wasted. I would have just upgraded the mobo to a sabertooth and gone with an LGA 2011 socket CPU such as a 3930k or 4930k to utilize both of those monsters. I noticed your comment stated you are upgrading to 2011 which IS a great choice but if you are going to go after the Haswell-E you better have a HUGE budget ($1000 for the cpu). I feel like you are only barely going to see a bump up in fps from going from a 4930k Ivy Bridge to a Haswell-E... Like 5 fps. Either way your build looks aesthetically perfect.

I'll go through your post case by case.

1) About the PCI-scaling, you can see here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7089/geforce-gtx-titan-twoway-sli-scaling-pcie-2-vs-pcie-3 that PCI-e scaling from 2.0 x16 to 3.0 x16 (aka 3.0 x8 to 3.0 x16) offers you little to no performance gain. AMD has also done their own testing and found that there was no performance loss, even at 2.0 x8, which would be equivalent to 3.0 x4. So much so that they even decided to remove the Crossfire connectors on the cards and they even still had enough bandwidth left at 2.0 x8 to run the cards at full performance and crossfire going through the bus as well.

2) ASUS generally is known for pretty bad support. When I do upgrade my motherboard, I'm most likely going to get whatever new offering Gigabyte will have for 2011-3 when Haswell-E comes out.

3) The pricing for Haswell-E is going to be similar to Ivy Bridge-E and Sandy Bridge-E before it, but even with that, the $600 5930K (supposed) equivalent will even be an upgrade, to an 8-core, 16-thread CPU, from a 6-core, 12-thread CPU. And, all for $600. $1000 are the Core i7 Extreme 2011s, and those are far from worth it.

4) I'm not going to upgrade for any gaming performance, even if it does give me some (which is still nice). I'm upgrade mainly for the platform. Onboard Z87 features ported to X99 will be nice, as well as the DDR4 support.
