Description
So this is my third gaming build over the years. My last machine had an i5 3570K with an MSI Gtx 660 ti in it, and needless to say... this was a MASSIVE upgrade. I am extremely pleased with this beast. I've been playing DOOM, Destiny 2, Deus Ex Mankind all at 144 fps since that's what my monitor's limit is. I'm thinking about getting something with a higher refresh rate just to see how high it can go and make this my secondary screen.
Pleasantly surprised with the temperatures of everything. I was a little worried about air cooling this 8700K, but it works like a beast without getting too hot. Props to the Cryorig R1 Ultimate for doing an awesome job.
The MSI GTX 1080 Ti is a monster in size and performance. It is massive and heavy. They supplied a support bracket with it because of this...however it is pretty flimsy. I may do something else to support it a bit more at a later time. Other than that, it destroys everything I throw at it and maintains low temperatures doing so. It also looks awesome with the RAM I got.
I'm also planning on getting a few TB HDD for storage I know I'll be needing. Just wanted to get Windows on this SSD, but it holds a good bit more.
I know the pictures aren't the best, I'll post more later.
Part Reviews
CPU
I've been using this in a gaming machine with a Cryorig R1 Ultimate and it has been destroying everything I throw at it at low temperatures.
CPU Cooler
Doing an amazing job on an i7-8700K at 4.7GHz all 6 cores. Never been higher than 70C.
Motherboard
Great board, great Bios, cool RGB. Easy to use and understand.
Memory
It's RAM. Fast RAM. Fast RAM with RGB. Works at 3200MHz with 14-14-14-34 timings with XMP.
Storage
Great SSD, very fast. Will probably get NVMe next time but this is much better than having wires run through case.
Video Card
Awesome card, runs everything I throw at it at max settings 144 fps due to my 144hz refresh monitor.
It is really big and hefty, but feels extremely well made and performs this way as well.
I recommend getting a motherboard with strong PCIe ports due to size and weight.
Case
Great computer case. Plenty of room and places to put drives and wires. Great amount of modular configurations. Looks beautiful with tempered glass and lighting around frame.
Power Supply
Good power supply. High efficiency, very quiet. Feels very well built. Fully modular. Thick strong cables.
Monitor
This monitor was extremely simple to set up. Running all my games at 144 fps beautifully. G-sync works great. Very thin bezel for a cleaner look. Allows screen to rotate 90 degrees and tilt pretty well too.
Keyboard
Very pleased with this purchase. Just the amount of click I want when I press a key. The individually addressed RGB LEDs are a nice touch. Some complain about the shape of the keys, but I happen to like them.
Mouse
Great mouse. Feels very well made. I haven't played with the included weights yet, but I will soon as I use this on a gaming machine. Very smooth movement and tracking.
UPS
Very cool UPS. Nice display shows power draw from components plugged into it. Should be helpful keeping my PC PSU healthy.
