Building a new computer for blizzard gaming at ultra settings... Do I go for 4k monitor @ 60Hz or 1440p @144Hz

1440p with Asus PG279Q ROG Swift 165Hz 27.0" Monitor OR 4k gaming with Asus PG27AQ 60Hz 27.0" Monitor ... This is my predicament. I have been building a computer on PCPartPicker.com for a while now and in the midst of construction I heard about the new NVidia GTX 1080 Pascal video card. One of these cards should run my Blizzard games (SC2, WoW, HoTS, and D3) on ultra settings to the MAX. Now let's assume that this is true that my video card WILL handle at least 120 FPS in 1440p and 55 FPS in 4k roughly, then what should I get for best experience with Blizzard gaming? 4k or 1440p ...

I want the best performance along with best graphics...I know this is only opinion based in nature, but I'm truly stuck on the fence with this one. Somebody! Please, persuade me! I'm on the fence here. A side note... I have already heard many reviews (Dec. 2015 being the latest, which is coming up on 6 months ago. A bit outdated considering 1080 is coming out now.) about both. I have been leaning on the 1440p @ 144Hz for a while just based on supposed "smoothness", but I know 4k could be something I don't want to pass on... I have heard about the possible 4k 120Hz might be around the corner, but i'm sure the price tag out the gates will be over my budget... I just want to know about these two monitors in question.

High FPS with PG279Q ROG Swift 165Hz 1440p OR 4k gaming with PG27AQ 60Hz. Let me hear your opinions. I need a good persuasion here. Thanks in advance!

1440p at 144 because more frames is smoother

I was running a 4k AOC freesync monitor and looooooooved it. I played WoW quit a bit@60-90fps in raids with max graphics settings and it was fricken wonderful. I never saw any tearing or quality issues or any type of lag. My position and numbers in raids never changed due tot eh 60hz vs 144hz. My only complaint was the mouse size was so small I lost it sometimes. Never figured out how to increase the size (if you could at all).

I'm in the 4k boat. If you can support it then make the leap. WoW was the only competitive game I played, and even then it was all PVE content. I never PVP'ed. I used a 1440p 144mhz monitor for a little bit before I went 4k and for me I noticed very little difference between 60hz and 144hz. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but in the end I went 4k and very happy I did.

Guess I should add I was running crossfire OC R9-290's. If I could get solid 60 - 90 fps witht hose the 1080 will be able to get well over 55fps.

Can't you change your mouse settings? Just select the 'really big' pic for the pointer.

I could adjust the ui scaling but couldn't adjust mouse size in game. In Windows I can, but the setting doesn't apply in game.

Ahh, good to know. Saves me some time whenever I enter the 1440p or _K world. Thanks.

I'm in the same boat, and I've decided to go with the Dell S2716DG. Its a 1440p 144hz 1ms TN panel and it uses G-Sync which is meant for Nvidia cards. It has really great reviews, including the customer service reviews. Think about it as an option.

55 FPS in 4k roughly

I am not confident that the 1080 will accomplish this on all games. Have to wait for hardware to get into more hands.

Me personally, I love the 4K gaming experience. I am not into MP games, just single player games. The visuals still blow me away at times :)

Dell S2716DG 144Hz 27.0" Monitor $519.60 @ Amazon

Dell Ultra HD 4k Monitor P2715Q 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor $475.99 @ Amazon

I have this 4K monitor and $475 is the lowest price in 2016
