Skylake or Haswell-E?

Hello,

In my PC build which can be found on my profile, I had gotten an i3 - 4160, and a GTX 750TI with a pretty crappy GA-H81M-H motherboard. Now, in the summer I am planning to upgrade my PC, since it is just not performing for me. I am wondering if I should get the i7 - 6700K, or the i7 - 5820K, since they are around the same price now. Even though this is the CPU forum, I am also going to ask if I should get a single 970 or 980, or just wait for the 1070 to be back in stock.

Thanks, Cubular

What are you planning to use your PC for?

I use the PC for gaming and other various things occasionally for editing videos.

Then none of the above should be your targets to be honest.

You could just as easily go with a locked i5-6500 for gaming and light editing or maybe a 6700 if you wanted to ensure better editing power but it likely wont be needed from what you said you would use the PC for.

I dont know your budget but something like this should be just fine here.

That is what I am using my PC for at the moment. I might get into many other projects and ideas later on, so I am future - proofing myself.

Based on the information that you gave I will recommend i7-6700K with CRYORIG H7 ( Cooler ) and MOBO with Z170 chipset around 100$. Also wait for GTX 1070.
