Best sound card for music recording

I'm looking to do some recording. I have a pa and mics. Guitars etc. all I have is the on board audio. What is a good sound card for music and mastering. Software? Set up I would like it professional.

I would recommend an audio interface over a sound card such as the Focusrite Scarlett solo (2nd gen) but that's just me (I'm an audiophile btw) as for software I'd simply recommend Audacity as most other people would

Unless you need to record an input signal, your onboard soundcard should be good enough to do what you need it to do. If you are looking to record mics, instruments, etc, your only option really is it get an audio interface. What's the maximum number of things you'd want to record at once?
