New build, new 2TB drive shows 3GB size

On my new build, a secondary 2TB SATA drive only shows 3.86GB in size. The drive is not initialized and the space is unallocated.

When I tried to initialize the drive, I got the error "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error".

Is this DOA or is there something that can be done to recover it?

Seagate Constellation ES ST2000NM0011 2TB

TIA

Was this error displayed using Windows disk management?

Yes, in Disk Management.

So you see only 1 partition? Its been awhile since I have messed around with partitions but if there is only a single partition and no other unallocated listings then I'd say dead drive.

Yes, a single 3.86 GB unallocated partition. I reseated the SATA cables, no change. I replaced the SATA cables, no change.

I guess because it does see a drive at all I thought it may be recoverable.

Back to China it goes!

Thanks!

The command prompt option there is pretty good. Diskpart's "clean" command is pretty powerful & could help you sort everything out.
